The Ohio Ordnance Works SHOT Show 2023 booth had a range of their civilian semi-auto weapons out on display including the HCAR. Alongside the HBAR was the Ohio Ordnance Works manufactured M240 fitted with one of their 240 Patrol-SLR Conversion Kit. The kit is something they have offered to the military and law enforcement for a number of years but recently, in November of last year, they made the kit available commercially to the M240-owning public.

Last year Armasight came back from the dead. They had been acquired by FLIR a few years ago and then FLIR shuttered them when they decided to no longer offer weapon-mounted thermal or night vision anymore. Well, Armasight is back and they have even more to offer the nighttime hunter. Their Jockey is a small thermal clip-on. The Armasight Sidekick is a thermal monocular perfect for helmet use and they have analog night vision for those interested.

Leupold has added a new scope to their Mark 5HD line. The 2-10×30 is a low magnification scope perfect for close to reasonable distances like 800 or even 1000 yards depending on your caliber. They are also coming out with their BX-4 Range HD binocular, a laser range-finding binocular, and they have a new laser rangefinder with flight path.

SHOT Show 2023 could be called the year of the Turbo for SureFire. SureFire has been a juggernaut in the handheld and weapon light market. With various companies making weapon lights for intensity over distance, it’s good to see the new Surefire Turbo weapon lights.

Before SHOT 2023, I was tipped off by a co-worker who knew that I was a Tikka fan that a company was bringing a bullpup chassis and optimized bullpup trigger for the Tikka to SHOT.  That company is MK Machining of Hallsville, MO.  One of the few bright lights in the otherwise dingy SHOT Dungeon was MK Machining’s MK2 Bullpup Chassis, which is now available for Remington 700 short and long actions, as well as Tikka T3 actions.

Windham Weaponry continues to add new rifles to its lineup, including an XM177 variant. The XM177 family was one of the first AR-style carbines to enter wide use. Several variants were used, including the XM177E2 and GAU5/A. Most original versions featured a ~4″ moderator attached to a 10″ barrel. The ATF decreed that the original moderator was a silencer and thus required a tax stamp.

Accurate Mag is one of the leading manufacturers of AICS-pattern magazines, but they also produce actions and complete rifles.

One of the best parts of the SHOT Show is being able to get hands on with some really interesting firearms. This year was no different with Heckler & Koch, to my surprise, displaying their belt-fed machine guns: the MG4 and MG5. While I don’t think we’ll be seeing these on the commercial market any time soon, it was great to get to handle them in person.

Mission First Tactical has come out with a rather practical holster that has a unique feature that seems to work well. Their Pro Series IWB holster can fit a Glock 19 with a light like a TLR-7 but most importantly, it can accommodate the same pistol without a light and you don’t need any special adapters.

A little over a month ago, we reported about the release of the HM Defense HM50B bolt action .50BMG rifle, and many of our readers found it suspiciously similar to Bushmaster BA50 and Remington R2Mi. HM Defense brought the HM50B rifle to SHOT Show 2023 (displayed at AmmoInc/Gunbroker booth) and when I visited them, I asked if they can tell me what sets their rifle apart from the other two. Well, they were prepared and provided me an entire list of differences between the three rifles. Long story short, the rifles look similar but they are not the same.

Jacob Grey Firearms of West Columbia, SC is a manufacturer of AR-style rifles, 1911 pistols and firearm accessories. At  SHOT Show 2023, Jacob Grey Firearms showed their new JG10 Warthog line of DPMS LR-308 pattern semi-auto rifles and pistols. According to the company officials, what sets their firearms apart from the competition is the extremely tight tolerances that they achieve thanks to their experience in military aircraft parts manufacturing.

American Tactical Imports (ATI) will be bringing to the stateside .22LR conversion kits for Glock pistols made by German Schmeisser. These kits consist of drop-in barrels and feed ramps as well as 9x19mm cartridge-shaped chambers that house the .22LR ammunition, fit the standard 9mm magazines and are ejected out of the gun with the fired .22LR cases inside them. At SHOT Show 2023, we had a chance to take a look at this new Schmeisser .22LR conversion kit for Glock pistols.

SHOT Show 2023 was a strong year for CZ USA in the competition pistol market. Their big drops were two new competition-minded pistols along with Dan Wesson starting to ship the DWX out to dealers now. CZ unveiled a new orange variant of their TS2 as well as a CZ Custom shop gun called the A01 series. Let’s take a closer look at the CZ TS2 Orange and AO1 series of pistols.

Valhalla Tactical has been making their own light mounts and light bodies. Well, they have expanded their light options like the SOL (Selectable Orientation Light) light mount as well as manufacture their own light heads. With regards to their optic mounts, they already have an adapter plate for the Holosun SCRS.

At SHOT Show 2023,  Geissele Automatics displayed a number of their government contract rifles as well as a pair of civilian market guns chambered in 6mm ARC (Advanced Rifle Cartridge), the GFR Maritime RECCE and GFR Stratomatch, that are also based on DoD contract guns. Let’s take a closer look.

Luth-AR had a number of new products on display at this year’s SHOT Show. We’ve already looked at their handy  Modular Chassis Assembly (or MCA-22) but they also have a number of new accessories for your AR. These included the ambidextrous Wing Grip and the new left-handed ‘Chubby’ grip.

Bergara sister company CVA continues to roll out new bolt action rifles and muzzleloaders. Their new Cascade XT and Paramount Pro V2 were both present at Industry Day At The Range of SHOT Show 2023.

True Velocity is gearing up for scale manufacture of its innovative polymer cased ammunition in more calibers. At SHOT Show 2023 we had the opportunity to catch up with Dave Stouffer, True Velocity’s executive vice president (weapons division). He explained how True Velocity are preparing to bring their polymer case technology to some familiar calibers.

Safety Harbor Firearms continues to expand the lineup of Kompact Entry Stock (KES) with the addition of a Brugger & Thomet APC-9 model. Safety Harbor makes KES stocks and stabilizing braces for many popular PCC options. These include the CZ Scorpion, Grand Power Stribog, MP-5 and MP-5K, and Sig Sauer MPX. B&T has captured a large portion of the PCC market recently, so it makes sense that Safety Harbor added this model. Also, the APC-9K won the US Army Sub Compact Weapon contract in 2019.

CAA brought all their latest products and prototypes to  SHOT Show 2023 including the third-generation MCK conversion kits, the Apollo PCC and the sci-fi AGADA carbine. Let’s take a look at each of these CAA products.

For 2023, PepperBall has three new non-lethal launchers which they brought to the SHOT Show 2023. The TRP (Tactical Response Pistol) is a pistol-shaped launcher that can use round or VXR projectiles powered by either CO2 or N2 cartridges. The BLAST is a reloadable single-shot compact tubular launcher for close-range use that shoots a large powder load powered by a 1.8g N2 cartridge. The VKS PRO PLUS is an AR-shaped semi-auto launcher that comes with a 15 cubic inch 4500psi capacity carbon fiber tank, red dot sight and is compatible with gravity or electronic hoppers as well as round or VXR projectiles. At the MDT booth in SHOT Show 2023, they had something truly interesting – the Zero Stage electronic trigger. Yes, the trigger is electronic but what does that mean? Keith Baker walked us through the Zero Stage trigger and even went into detail about its potential.

Rhineland Arms had some very unique guns on display at their SHOT Show booth. They had two replicas of legendary designs (WA 2000 And FG-42) that are far more accessible than the originals.

Forster Products is (quite literally) expanding its line of Co-Ax presses with a forthcoming XL model. It is designed for cartridges up to .50 BMG.

Mesa Tactical continues to expand its accessory options for shotguns, particularly for the Beretta 1301 and Benelli M2. New for 2023, the Truckee forend is now available for M2 and 1301 shooters.

Winchester Smokeless Propellants, a member of the Hodgdon family, introduced two new StaBALL powders at SHOT Show 2023 – the  StaBAll Match and  StaBALL HD.

At SHOT Show 2023, KNS Precision released a new adjustable gas regulator for FN SCAR rifles and pistols dubbed DiSCARder. This is a drop-in and a toolless adjustable gas regulator with 14 settings. It has a nickel boron and nitrided finish on its components for high corrosion resistance. The DiSCARder is compatible with all models, calibers and barrel lengths of SCARs with the exception of the 7.5″ barreled 5.56 pistol.

Angstadt Arms unveiled two new no-baffle Vanquish suppressors at SHOT Show 2023.  The first was showcased on their AR-9 pattern pistols and rifles, and the second was a totally new barrel for the 10/22 family of rifles.  I had a chance to sit down with Angstadt Arms staff and get the details on these radically new suppressors.

Manners Composite Stocks introduced their new Pro Hunter lightweight carbon fiber rifle stock at SHOT Show 2023. The Pro Hunter blends features of long-range and tactical stocks with features popular on hunting stocks.
