In the world of lever guns, Mad Pig Customs has become a bit of a legend. This small Connecticut-based gunsmithing and Cerakote shop has been cranking out fun projects for years, and has garnered something of a cult following on social media. One of Mad Pig‘s particular specialties is modernizing lever-action rifles. They’ll take a customer-supplied firearm like a standard Marlin 1895, 1894, or 336, and bring it from the 19th century into the 21st using what is probably best described as a “mad scientist” approach, or perhaps “ yeehaw gat sorcery“. Imagine your grandpa’s trusty, beat-up old truck gun, a wood-stock .45-70 that’s isn’t too far removed from John Wayne, saddlebags, and tumbleweeds rolling across the prairie.

Tyrant Designs has been busting out the aftermarket accessories this year and has just released their latest set of precision CNC machined pistol parts. The Tyrant Designs Glock 17 Gen 3 Magwell has a couple of new features like their custom crosshair patterned screws, and compatibility for Generations 3 through 5 of Glock’s 17, 22, 31, 34, 35, and 45 handguns. The new Tyrant Designs Glock 17 Gen 3 Magwell is available now for $69.95 from the Tyrant Designs website. Color options include black, red, gray, blue, gold, and machined aluminum. The colors for the crosshair patterned mounting screws are either black or gold.

General Austin Scott Miller is a warfighter who knows a thing or two about firearms, and has previously been noted for preferring a 1911 over the Army’s recently-retired standard-issue sidearm, the M9. Now the former Delta operator has been seen carrying a modified Glock in Afghanistan, rather than the current M17/ M18 handguns that have been chosen to replace the aging Beretta service pistol. Of particular interest is that this is no stock Glock, as some Special Operations personnel have been authorized to use in the past. The General’s gun features some auspicious modernizations commonly associated with high-end handguns, often meant for competition. In these photos, you can see Miller is employing a red-dot optic, a mag extension, and a compensator added to the gun’s muzzle. It’s not clear whether his holster is concealing the weaponlight that would be needed to qualify the pistol as a full-blown Roland Special-style sidearm, but given the General‘s other accessory choices, it would not be surprising if this was the case.

Photo Of The Day and we’re going to take a look at Engravings By Damir in a series of photos. Damir started working with wood carving in 1996 and worked as a maker of gunstocks and an engraver of wood until about 2003 when he started engraving metal instead. Damir then met Stanley Stoltz, a world-renowned engraver, who showed some basic methods, which Damir has since adapted and developed to his own style.

One of the most frequently upgraded parts of Kalashnikov rifles is the stock. Although there is a variety of aftermarket stocks designed to fit the standard AK rear trunnions, the use of adapters that allow attaching AR-15 buffer tubes or Picatinny rail compatible stocks has also become quite popular drastically expanding the possible stock options for the good ol’ AK-47 and its derivatives. JMac Customs recently came up with a new family of products designed for attaching various stocks to AK rifles. This product line consists of rear trunnions called Modular Rear Kalashnikov Trunnion (MRKT) and stock adapters that are attached to each other via a new mounting interface called Infinity Mount.

Brown Star Concepts (BSC) is a new company that has entered the market of firearm accessories with a product called RapidTac foregrip. This grip consists of two main components – the semi-circular base ring and the grip itself. The ring is mounted to M-LOK or KeyMod handguards/rails and the grip can be rotated 180 degrees around the ring and be fixed at any point on the ring. Let’s take a closer look.

New for 2020 was an expansion of KRG Bravo stocks for rimfire rifles, including the CZ457 and the Ruger 10/22.   I previously set up my Tikka T1X in a KRG Bravo stock, and it has been superb in every way.  Therefore, I jumped at the opportunity to try out the new Bravo stock for the Ruger 10/22.

Tyrant Designs has just unveiled a new product for Glock pistol shooters. The new Tyrant Designs Glock 43X and 48 flared magwell is an easy to install upgrade for your stock Glock that should aid in giving you speedier reloads. The magwell will be available in 6 different anodized colors and should also be compatible with the 43X/48 MOS models.

With the modularity of the AR-15 and AR-10 systems, there is an endless number of potential sling attachment points. One of the more popular ways to attach a sling to the rear of the rifle is to run it to the endplate. Strike Industries has now released their Multi-Function End Plate and Anti-Rotation Castle Nut.

At the end of January, Desert Tech announced the conversion kit for their MDRX and MDR bullpup, now we have more details. The kit has an 11.5 inch .223 Wylde barrel and is side eject. The Micron conversion kit gives the weapon an overall length of 23.43 inches and includes a new Micron Fore Grip, a new barrel and depending on the configuration of your MDRX/MDR, various other parts needed to convert the rifle.

ODIN Works has introduced a new AR-15 charging handle called Diverge. According to the company, the overall shape, extended latch and the material this charging handle is machined from (7075 aluminum), increase its grip area by 500% and make it 65% wider and 140% stronger than a standard AR-15 charging handle. Heckler & Koch recently announced a few new models of their extremely popular VP9 pistol at GunFest 2021. With more options, the potential for more buyers and more customization increases. One of the most practical upgrades one might make to their VP9 is adding extended baseplates. Firearm laser engraving is a burgeoning business. On a consumer scale, there are a few handful of FFL’s across the country equipped to engrave materials like aluminum, steel, and titanium. When the Gen5 Glocks were announced, reactions were a mixed bag. Some people welcomed changes like the flared magwell, while others either didn’t want it or thought it wasn’t enough. When it comes to AK upgrades, the average Kalashnikov aficionado is torn between American made accessories and Russian products that are often unavailable in the US and worldwide. For me, that seems odd, since, over the years, at least 30 countries produced different variants of the AK rifles. Why all those countries do not produce AK accessories?
