TFB Review: The IWI Galil ACE Gen II

In the world of modern rifles, there are countless options on the market. Whether it’s a bullpup, AR15, or other type of rifle, there’s a wide variety of options in the semi-auto rifle market. In the past, I’ve looked at the AKM platform and prefer the ergonomics of the AR15. There are plenty of options on the market that mix the two systems together. I recently saw some of the IWI Galils chambered in 7.62X39 and decided to try them since I have almost no experience with them. Over the last few months, I’ve had time to shoot and experience the Galil ACE. Let’s take a closer look at the IWI Galil ACE Gen II.

The Turkish Sig MCX? The Akdas SAM Rifle

James Reeves is at IWA 2024 talking to Turkish manufacturer Akdas about their SAM carbine. The SAM is a Turkish short stroke piston operated carbine that is similar to the SIG MCX in that they use similar operating systems, AR-type magazines, similar stock options that interface to a 1913 receiver attachment point, hardened steel replaceable wear points in the receiver, and easy-to-change rail system that interfaces with the upper receiver. While it lacks the SIG MCX’s adjustable gas system, caliber support, and easy-to-swap barrels (not to mention the SIG prestige and the military contracts attached to the MCX at the highest levels of SOCOM), this is still an interesting take on a next-gen combat carbine from a country known to be capable of producing quality budget firearms.

The Rimfire Report: The H&R "Leatherneck" Marine Corps Rimfire Trainer

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world. Last week we checked out the very rare British-made Birmingham Small Arms “Ralock” 22LR semi-auto rifle. A lot of you who had one or shot one said that they were great rifles while others mentioned that the stocks were quite fragile, or that the rifles were particularly a pain in the ass to service. Either way, I really appreciate you sharing your experiences and thoughts with all of us in the comments, it’s great to have firsthand accounts of how these rare pieces actually operated. This week we’re back again with another quite rare rifle, this time one meant for the US Military, specifically the United States Marine Corps. I’m of course talking about the Harrington and Richardson Model 150 also lovingly known as the “Leatherneck.” Made to mimic the much venerated M1 Garand service rifle, the Leatherneck is the United State’s own rimfire trainer. Today we’ll take a look at the heritage of the Leatherneck, and check out what they had and have to offer in terms of reliability, accuracy, and investment value.

Savage 110 Ultralight Elite Rifle ft. MDT & Proof Research

Savage Arms is typically associated with high-quality but economically priced hunting rifles but at IWA 2024, they are unveiling a high-end collaborative ultra-lightweight rifle with participation from Proof Research and MDT. The rifle will use an MDT chassis with carbon fiber elements and a folding stock, a Proof Research carbon fiber-wrapped barrel, and Savage’s excellent trigger. POTD: SIG Sauer SG 750 in 6.5 Creedmoor

Photo Of The Day and we take a look at the new SIG Sauer SG 750 in 6.5 Creedmoor. According to SIG Sauer, in October 2017, the U.S. Special Operations Command determined that the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge has the best probability of hitting at distances of 1,000 m (1,094 yd). The recoil was also less than the traditional 7.62x51mm NATO cartridges. I don’t have any scientific data to prove that, but I can vouch that’s all true and beyond. If you’ve tried both, you’d know.

The Rimfire Report: Uncle Fudd's Wild Forward Charging 10/22

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of guns, ammo, history, and shooting sports. Last week we talked about a complex gun from the past – the BSA Ralock 22LR takedown rifle. This week we’re setting our sights on something that Uncle Fudd is working on in his garage right now. Uncle Fudd isn’t a derogatory term in this case but rather the name of a man who has a normal day job and kids just like the rest of you, but who just loves tinkering around with his firearms in ways that often turn heads, but probably also turn stomachs for some of you out there. This time Uncle Fudd is working on a new Forward Charging 10/22 rifle. Why? Just because! The 10/22 in all but a rare handful of cases has always ejected and charged from the right-hand side. Uncle Fudd is going to fix that by adding a feature to the 10/22 you never knew you needed – a forward-mounted charging handle stuffed inside of a Grey Birch MFG La Chassis.

Fast forward to today and the tastes and requirements that most people have these days when it comes to hard-use rifles have changed a bit, and that’s why Bushmaster has revamped the ORC with new features including modern handguards, as well as several different configurations that still keep the cost low, but improve key areas of the rifle that are often upgraded first.

Silver Screen Guns: Sisu – The Simple List of Kinda Correct Firearms

On the way back from my short trip to Finland to participate in Finnish Brutality 2023, I had the chance to finally watch a movie I had been told about for months – Sisu. Sisu is a Finnish-made film set in 1944 during WWII that follows the bloody, painful, and wildly impossible journey of a man whose only wish was to be as far away from the war as possible and enjoy his newly found gold. Obviously, without a conflict, we can’t have a movie so long story short, our main character ends up going on a one-man killing spree as he tries to retrieve his stolen gold and take down the Nazis who took it from him as they retreat during the Lapland War.

Hungarian AKs (Part 1): The Country That Revealed AKs to the World

Over 30 countries produced AK rifles. And even if you’re an expert, sometimes the only way to tell them apart is to look at the markings on the receiver. But thankfully that is not the case with Hungarian AKs, most variants from that country look like nothing else, and even more plain-looking newer models have some small features that allow nerds like me to easily identify them.

The Rimfire Report: The Complex British-Made BSA Ralock

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report!  This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of guns, ammo, and shooting sports. Last week we talked about the direction that the rimfire industry might be going and while we were talking about odd designs in the modern age, that got me thinking about quite an odd design that came out of the post-World War II era – the BSA Ralock. BSA or Birmingham Small Arms brought the Ralock rifle to the scene in 1947—an entirely consumer-focused rifle that was a blend of top-notch quality, unique design, and a dash of machine gun inspiration. Let’s dive into what makes this vintage firearm tick, from its funky features and limited production history to where you might find one in the wild today.

Good evening everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the brand new YHM 338 Bad Larry Suppressor. After the sun starts to drop behind the trees, I’ll be back with some results.
