TFB HANDS ON: The B&T SPC10

Unveiled during our recent trip to Switzerland, the B&T SPC10 is the newest member of the Special Purpose Carbine (SPC) lineup.  It carries over features from the SPC family with more AR parts compatibility out of the box.  It even takes Glock mags.  I had a chance to go over the SPC10 and put a few rounds through it and here’s what I found.

DIY Pistol Optic Cuts (and 0% AR Receivers!): The Ghost Gunner 3S

In this spooky Halloween episode of TFBTV, James Reeves interviews Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed about the Ghost Gunner 3S. A more advanced version of the Ghost Gunner 3, this at-home milling machine allows shooters to perform DIY RMR cuts on their Glock slides (or, really, any pistol) as well as slide serrations, stippling, and even build AR lowers from ZERO PERCENT receivers – i.e., plain blocks of metal. The Ghost Gunner 3S is a hardware and software upgrade, but Cody goes into more detail about the differences between the GG3 and GG3S and the endless possibilities for at-home mods and builds.

Concealed Carry Corner: Are Concealed Carry Jackets Worth It?

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about various shooting drills to help incorporate movement into your range sessions. If you missed last week, I’ll be sure to leave a link to the article here.  For the majority of the United States, the colder months are upon and that means layering up to keep warm during these cold winter months. Naturally, some of you will be switching out your carry guns to larger full-size carry guns with the addition of more jackets and warm layers. Over the last few years, there has been an increase in concealed carry related jackets but are they worth it? Let’s take a closer look to answer the question are concealed carry jackets worth it?

Wheelgun Wednesday: The Victorian Era Velo-Dog Phenomenon

At the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, early cyclists/velocipede enthusiasts seemed to be plagued, however, with curious and often aggressive canines.  This was apparently enough of a common occurrence that René Galand, son of prolific revolver inventor Charles-François Galand, came up with a firearm and cartridge specifically designed for cyclists to shoot at pursuing dogs. The 5.5mm Velo-Dog cartridge was a 30-ish grain .22 diameter centerfire cartridge, though its energy was roughly equivalent to the .22 long.(1)

TFB Review: FB Radom's VIS 100 M1 Pistol – The Polish Military Sidearm

The Polish VIS 100 M1 pistol from Fabrika Broni is an upgraded variant of the pistol that is currently issued to the Polish Armed Forces, the VIS 100 (no “M1”) while the primary advantage of the civilian M1 version provides an optics-ready capability. The history of the VIS 100 M1 can be traced back to the early 1990s when Poland began looking inward for the production of a pistol for the armed forces. This search saw a couple different designs, the MAG 95 and the WIST-94, the latter of which was adopted in 1999. The MAG pistol was updated in 1998, and again in 2008. In 2018, the evolution of the MAG design, the VIS 100, started being issued to the Polish Armed Forces, replacing the WIST-94. The VIS 100 M1 is imported and sold by Arms of America, and is also available through Atlantic Firearms, who graciously provided the review sample you see here.

TFB Review: The BRG9 Elite 9mm – Best Turkish Firearm Value?

I can hear the typing coming from a mile away even before any of you have read this first paragraph. “It’s from Turkey! Pass!” Yes, the BRG9 Elite is a not-so-subtle nod to the Springfield XD series of pistols but whereas the XD (aka the HS 2000) hails from the great country of Croatia, the BRG9 Elite instead hails from Istanbul, Turkey, and is imported to the United States via the Buffalo Cartridge Company of Findlay, Ohio. Buffalo Cartridge has a well-established business manufacturing an extensive line of both pistol and rifle ammunition including some of the more obscure cartridges not normally found at your local big box store like .44 Special, .38-40 Winchester, and .458 SOCOM. The BRG9 Elite is a brand-new import for Buffalo Cartridge for 2022 and they were kind enough to send me a copy for testing and evaluation purposes. So today we’ll take a closer look at the BRG9 Elite, its features, and its price point to see if this might be a pistol worth picking up,

Autumn in Maine: GLOCK 29, SilencerCo Hybrid 45M, Kraken Case Company

We continue our Autumn in Maine series with a popular backcountry pistol chambered in 10mm. The GLOCK 29 is a compact version of the GLOCK 20, reducing the barrel, slide, and grip length enough to be more concealable than a full-sized handgun. Keep in mind that the GLOCK G29 is not as compact as its cousin the GLOCK 26 chambered in 9mm. It is a large frame GLOCK with a wide grip and will practically end any ideas you had of pocket carry. But in the northern states, where moose, bear, and other large animals can be a problem, most of us feel slightly under-gunned with a 9mm pistol.

I’ve been making some progress in reviewing my Harrington & Richardson Top Break Revolver, and I hope to bring that review to you in the coming weeks on TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday. However, part of my review really has me thinking about how the next, future top break revolver should be designed since the topic occasionally gets brought up. Claims are often made that modern metallurgy and engineering are up to the task of this mythical future top break revolver, but it seems that we should help round out what exactly we’re looking for.
