Concealed Carry Corner: Large Handguns vs Carry Fatigue
Welcome back to another Thursday Concealed Carry Corner article. Last week we talked about the best size for concealed carry guns and if you’d like to check it out, the link is here. While reviewing the P226 XFIVE that dropped a few days ago, I decided to give carrying it concealed a try just to see what it was like. During my time carrying that 46oz gun, I became uncomfortable and fussy as the day went on to the point where I actually took it off my belt and laid it on my desk. The fatigue fully set in and I started thinking about all the people who claim to carry Glock 34 with lights and red dots every day with no issue. Let’s take a closer look at large handguns vs carry fatigue.
Wheelgun Wednesday: New .500 Bushwhacker Cartridge for BFR Revolvers by TII Armory
With standard factory chambering options like .45-70 Government and .450 Marlin, the Magnum Research BFR revolver is probably the most capable production wheelgun that is not a shotgun or grenade launcher. Well, if these chamberings are not big enough for you and if you want an even more powerful version of the Biggest Finest Revolver, TII Armory of Halsey, Oregon has got you covered with their new .500 Bushwhacker cartridge designed for the BFR revolver which turns this massive wheelgun into “the world’s most powerful handgun”.
Top 5 Handguns in Serbia (for the money)
In this episode of TFBTV Show Time, @James Reeves is at the LORIST show with @DumDum Darko to discuss what are the best five handguns in Serbia – for the money. This is tricky because some handguns are much more expensive in Serbia than in the United States, so when buying a handgun, the value for your dollar (or dinar, or euro) is going to be much different than in the United States. European guns tend to be cheaper in the US and wait till you find out how much a Desert Eagle costs…
TFB Review: SIG Sauer's New P226 XFIVE Pistol
Over the last few months, SIG has been releasing a number of new firearm models varying from the P365 line with their new Macro pistols to the MCX LT series. SIG has decided to bring out something for the full-size metal frame handgun lovers. Traditionally, the XFIVE line of pistols was made in Germany, but now SIG has decided to build a fully American-made SIG P226 XFIVE. I was approached by SIG to get an early example to review and after almost 1,000 rounds through the gun, I have come to some conclusions about this heavy hitter. Let’s take a closer look at SIG Sauer’s New P226 XFIVE pistol.
The Rimfire Report: Federal Personal Defense Punch Rimfire .22 WMR
Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many guns, shooting sports, and ammunition. Last week we had Sam S. channel his inner Discount Han Solo and told us all about the Charter Arms Explorer II AR7 pistol. Much like the AR7 rifle, the Explorer II is meant to be compact, and portable but while achieving that it sacrifices consistency and reliability. Despite its less than stellar reputation in these areas, many of you and myself included want Henry Repeating Arms to come out with a modernized version that improves in these areas, and even if it winds up being an extra $100 or so, I think a majority of us would be willing to foot the bill to have an accurate, reliable, and interesting survival rimfire pistol. This week we’re getting back to our ammunition testing series with the big brother to Federal’s Personal Defense Punch 22LR – Personal Defense Punch 22 WMR. Luckily, I still have my Bear Creek Arsenal 22 WMR upper, and I still have access to the recently released Walther WMP for testing. Most of you know the drill here but for those that don’t, what we are testing here is how the ammunition performs in ballistics gelatin, and this time we’ve finally been able to get some support from the good folks at Clear Ballistics!
Australian Army Selects SIG Sauer P320 XCarry Pro to Replace The Browning HiPower
The Australian Department of Defence has announced that under its Lethality System Project LAND 159 project a raft of new small arms have been selected for the Australian Defence Force’s dismounted combatants. The news was announced at the end of last month with Head Land Systems, Major General Andrew Bottrell announcing the selections and saying that “this is a bold step into modern weaponry to quickly improve Australia’s defence preparedness.” Bottrell said early engagement with the industry had proven very successful.
Compensate! New Apex Tactical MRAT Compensator Kit for FNX-45 Pistols
If you own an FN FNX-45 pistol with the factory threaded barrel, and feel you want to reduce the muzzle rise and recoil of the .45 ACP now you have an option with the MRAT (Muzzle Rise Amplitude Tamer) compensator from Apex Tactical Specialities. The MRAT compensator will set you back $175 and includes a captive-spring guide rod assembly, two brass tip set screws and some thread locker fluid. The standard color is black, but you can also get FDE for an additional $25. Apex Tactical indicates that users will note a 40% to 60% reduction in muzzle rise, but the results are individual to shooters.
Concealed Carry Corner: The Perfect Size Carry Gun
Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about when to trust your carry gun and what to do when it comes to break in. If you’d like to check it out, be sure to click the link here. In the past, I’ve talked about the evolution of carry guns from full-size metal firearms all the way to micro ultralight single stack guns. Based on the trends and new firearms coming out today, the perfect carry gun size is somewhere in the middle. Some of you may disagree with my interpretation and that’s ok, but looking at general sales along with what’s prevalent in the market today, there certainly appear to be some new favorites on the market for people who carry concealed. Let’s take a closer look at what potentially could be the perfect size carry gun
New Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro with Shield SMSc Sight
Pocket Rockets with red dot sights are in fashion, and Springfield Armory now has a new option of their Hellcat Pro that comes combined with the Shield Sights SMSc sight. In case you haven’t seen or tried the SMSc red dot yet, it’s a very compact, yet useable optic in my opinion, especially on compact handguns that have a short line of sight. As a backup, it’s co-witnessed with the company’s U-Dot sights.
D&L Sports 1911 Stand-Off Device
Stand-off devices for handguns are frame-mounted parts that form a shield in front of the muzzle to prevent the action from going out of battery when the muzzle of the gun is pressed against the target. There are multiple different stand-off devices for the most popular modern handguns, however, if you want to retrofit your 1911 with such a gadget, there are not too many options. Well, D&L Sports is one manufacturer that makes a dedicated 1911 stand-off device.
Wheelgun Wednesday: Tune that Trigger!
One of the biggest negatives of double action (and some single action) revolvers can be a long, heavy or gritty trigger pull. The good thing is, you don’t have to live with these conditions forever. Do you have to send your sixgun in for an expensive trigger tuning job? Not necessarily.
CZ 75 Republika Auctioned For $38,000
At an event organized by the Goltz Fortress Gallery in the Czech Republic, a CZ 75 REPUBLIKA pistol was auctioned for 40,000 EUR, about 38,000 USD. The CZ 75 Republika is a limited edition pistol made in only 100 pieces, based on the CZ 75 B. It was released in 2018, to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic.
The New Smith & Wesson M&P Marker M2.0 from T4E
When it comes to training, nothing quite beats using the real thing, however, when safety is a top priority during force-on-force conflicts, something like the new M&P Marker M2.0 from T4E (Training For Engagement) can really be a helpful tool to the operator doing the exercise. The M&P Marker M2.0 makes use of a .43 caliber projectile which can be either chalk, a paintball, or even reusable rubber bullets combined with a 12-gram CO2 cartridge to deliver its training projectiles with realistic blowback action.
The Rimfire Report: Charter Arms Explorer II AR7 Pistol Review
Hello and welcome back to another Edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many guns, ammunition choices, and shooting sports. Last week we took a look at some Obscure .22 Rimfire Tear Gas Cartridge Guns. This week I am at the helm and filling in for your usual host Luke C. When Luke asked me to fill in for today, the first thing that came to mind is that I have never actually “reviewed” my Charter Arms Explorer II. I have written a ton about it as far as its history goes and how to maintain it but never actually sat down and did a full-on review. If you are curious about its broader history please check out the Curious Relics articles over on our sister site AllOutdoor.com and as far as maintenance goes, I recently covered that on Armorer’s Bench. Let’s dive right into my review on the Charter Arms Explorer II pistol!

Pocket Full of Hate: The Bond Arms Roughneck Derringer Pistol
If you’re a fan of the 1994 film Maverick or similar films involving high-stakes gambling and gun fights, you’ll no doubt be familiar with derringer pistols. Derringer pistols are small, very compact, pocket-sized pistols that don’t exactly fit into any other category of firearms like revolvers, pocket pistols, and the like. Unlike mini-revolvers or centerfire pocket semi-auto pistols, derringers are typically chambered in much larger straight-walled cartridges like 357 Magnum, .38 Special, and .45 Long Colt. Up until going through this review, I had not had very much experience with derringer-style pistols but Bond Arms was kind enough to lend me one of their Roughneck derringers, as well as a spare barrel chambered in 9mm so that I could get a feel for the experience and explore what these pistols have to offer concealed carriers.
The New Premier Presidente Colt 1911 from SK Customs
SK Guns/SK Customs has just announced its second edition in the Mexican War of Independence series of firearms. In the first edition, SK Customs presented their customers with The Emperor 1911 custom pistol which featured a sleek, dark high polish finish for the frame and slide while paired with Pearlite grips sporting an emblem of the iconic Rampant Colt in silver. The Second Edition, The Premier Presidente will be another Colt model 1911 pistol chambered in 38 Super.
TFB Review: Ruger LCP MAX 380 Pistol with XS DXT2 Big Dot Sights
9mm micro-compact pistols have been front and center within the pistol world for quite some time now. During the midst of some of the biggest brand names releasing their own version of the 9mm micro compact to the industry, Ruger somewhat sneakily released the LCP MAX 380 pistol which took the super tiny LCP 380 semi-auto pistol with a standard magazine capacity of 6-rounds and bumped that number up to 10 rounds. James Reeves reviewed the LCP MAX 380 over on TFBTV during its initial release but we’ve yet to do that here on the blog side of things. Sometime shortly after the release of the LCP MAX 380, XS Sights came out with dedicated night sights for the pocket-sized 380 and they were gracious enough to send me a copy of their own LCP MAX 380 equipped with their DXT2 Big Dot sights. Today we’ll take a look at both the LCP MAX 380 as well as the XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot sight for it and see if this might be a sensible option for when you’re looking to be as discreet as possible.
Concealed Carry Corner: When To Trust Your Carry Gun
Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about carrying in questionable areas that could get you in trouble. This week, I wanted to take a look at a topic we all debate whether it’s when we first start carrying a concealed firearm or whenever we purchase a new firearm to carry. Whether it’s a new model to hit the market or just a new gun to you, it’s sometimes rather difficult to determine exactly when a gun is trustworthy to carry and depend on every day of your life. Let’s take a closer look at when to trust your carry gun.
Radian Weapons' COMPRESSOR Quick-Tune Guide Rod for Glocks
Part of the fun of goofing around with Glock pistols is that you can have them tuned to your exact specifications and needs. Reduced power or increased power recoil springs are one way to tune your pistol to your exact type of ammunition and components setup. Radian Weapons has just announced the introduction of their COMPRESSOR Quick-Tune Guide Rod for Glock pistols. The Quick-Tune Guide Rod takes the concept of an adjustable guide rod/spring set and simplifies it so that the end user doesn’t have to worry about losing hardware in between spring changes.
Ultra Rare Tommy Built TMP7 Attempted Auction On Gunbroker.com
If you’re familiar with the company Tommy Built Tactical, then you’ll no doubt know exactly what the term “TMP7” implies. That’s right, Tommy Built made the effort to make an MP7 and through Gun Dog Armory has opted to auction it off with a starting bid of $90,000. However, despite the relative popularity of the MP7 platform and its status as practical unobtainium within the firearms universe, the auction for the TMP7 failed to get any bids before the item listing ended. I still think it’s pretty cool that Tommy Built Tactical made the decision to build one and is offering to sell it off to a willing customer who might have the extra six figures to throw at such a rare and prestigious item. However, in stark contrast to other firearms we’ve featured here from Gunbroker.com, I don’t think there is any arguing that this one is 100% a Hot Gat.
The Rolex of Tactical Pistols: The B&T USW-P 9mm
In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves interviews Karl Brugger, the president of B&T, about the new B&T USW-P. The USW-P at first seems like little more than a modular, striker-fired, high-end CZ-75 clone, but as Karl reveals, this gun is much, much more than that. The USW-P has a number of features discussed in the video, but also manages to integrate into the USW-SF chassis system made by B&T to convert the gun into a 9mm carbine.
TFB HANDS ON: The B&T USW-P Striker-Fired Pistol
TFB had a chance to shoot the first B&T USW-P striker-fired pistol during a recent visit to the B&T headquarters in Switzerland. Military-inspired, this new striker-fired 9mm pistol is designed specifically for the civilian market. I had a chance to shoot this pre-production pistol and talk with B&T AG staff about the pistol during our recent visit. Here’s what I learned.
POTD: Flintlock Key Pistol
Today we have a picture of a single-shot muzzleloading flintlock key pistol provided by Bonhams Skinner auctions. This early 19th-century discreet weapon is consigned to the Bonhams Skinner Early Militaria Collections auction which will be held on September 28, 2022, in Skinner Marlborough auction house.
POTD: VIS-a-VIS
Today’s Photo Of The Day is a picture by Tactical Imports Corporation (Canada) showing two Polish FB “Łucznik” Radom 9mm pistols – the VIS 35 and VIS 100M1. The former was designed in 1930 and adopted by the Polish Army in 1936. The latter, VIS 100M1, is the civilian version of the VIS 100 pistol which was adopted by the Polish Army in 2019. The VIS 100M1 has recently crossed the pond and is now available in the USA and Canada.
Tisas Announces the New 1911 Stingray Carry Pistol
Tisas has just announced its latest offering to the 1911 market with the introduction of its new 9mm 1911 Stingray Carry Pistol. This new carry-focused 1911 pistol comes standard with a bunch of great features at a price that makes it affordable for virtually anyone who wants to carry a 1911 pistol.
Concealed Carry Corner: Carrying In Questionable Places
Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we looked at the rise in PDWs being carried by individuals and what that looks like in public. When it comes to carrying concealed, there’s a wide variety of situations and settings that make you stop and question if you should carry. It happened to all of us who carry on a regular basis where you have to make a choice whether or not to carry in a certain situation. People will occasionally send me a question about a certain place or situation to carry in so I figured we could take a closer look at some of these situations. Let’s jump into the complicated world of carrying in questionable places.
New SI Pistol Grip and Flared Magwell for CZ Scorpion EVO
The CZ Scorpion Evo is quite popular with enthusiasts for its compact and lightweight design and relative affordability within the 9mm PCC scene. Strike Industries has just brought to market their latest aftermarket accessories for the CZ scorpion with the introduction of their new Overmolded Pistol Grip and polymer Flared Magwell for the EVO. The SI Pistol Grip and Flared Magwell are now available directly from Strike Industries.
