Say Goodbye to the Walther P99

The venerable Walther P99 is being retired at 26 years of service, and Walther is paying tribute with a “Final Edition'” of the pistol. The Final Edition P99 is a generation 3 P99 with the Anti-stress trigger, and an OD green grip frame reminiscent of the original 1st generation P99. These will be available for a limited time with a commemorative case and medallion, and then… never again…

ATF FINAL RULE: Factoring Criteria For Firearms With Stabilizing Braces

On the virtual eve of SHOT Show 2023, the Department of Justice is amending the regulations surrounding the clarification of firearms that constitute a rifle under federal law. At the heart of the ruling is the factoring criteria for firearms with stabilizing braces. Approximately 10 years ago, the ATF evaluated the first device designed to assist people with disabilities while shooting longer/heavier guns. Since then, the market for ‘pistol stabilizing braces’ grew exponentially, with most major manufacturers offering models with braces. The 300 page ruling focuses on six criteria, including weight and length, length of pull, type of sights, the design of the weapon, advertising materials, and general use throughout the community.

FN America Unveils FN 510 Tactical and FN 545 Tactical

FN America have announced the expansion of their FN 5XX series, building on the FN 509, they are now introducing the FN 510 Tactical, chambered in 10mm Auto, and the FN 545 Tactical, chambered in .45 ACP. Both pistols are suppressor ready with 4.71-inch recessed target-crown barrels, have optics cut slides and are available in either black or FDE finishes.

Rossi Announces Return with 3 New Revolvers

Rossi revolvers are back. It’s been a few years since Rossi revolvers have been available but two new models will be available in the first half of 2023 – the 6-inch RM63 and the 4-inch RP63. Both revolvers will be available in stainless finish and chambered in .357 Magnum. Later in 2023, the RM64 – a 4-inch ‘do everything’ revolver will be launched. MSRP for the RP63 will be $460.99 while the 6-inch RM66 will have an MSRP of $620.99.

POTD: Setting Up A New Beretta M9A4 RDO

TFB reader Stephan reached out to me recently about the best way to set up his new Beretta M9A4 RDO (Red Dot Optic-Ready) with a red dot. People’s first foray into the red dot optic market can be a daunting thing between deciding which red dot to go with, which footprint said red dot has, and obtaining the right plate if none is supplied with the pistol. In Stephan’s case of the Beretta RDO series, Beretta’s fine print stated that upon registering a new purchase with the company, they will send the owner one free optics mounting plate, while any additionally desired plates cost $29.

Rock Island Armory Introduce New RIA 5.0 Pistol

Rock Island Armory have introduced a new pistol, the RIA 5.0. The new RIA 5.0 is a 9x19mm with some very interesting features. It has a rectangular outer barrel profile and unlike most conventional contemporary pistols, the RIA 5.0 doesn’t use a tilting barrel lock-up. The frame is aluminum with a polymer grip and internally the pistol is hammer rather than striker fired. The pistol is not ambidextrous with magazine release and slide catch on the left side only.

One of the things I don’t get to do often enough is talk to shooters from other parts of the globe. Miles V (our guest from a couple of weeks ago) who has spent a lot of time in Thailand recently introduced me to Chun who was able to participate in the 2022 IPSC World Shoot which was hosted in his home country this year in Pattaya, Thailand.
