Kansas Highway Patrol has approved the Steiner MPS (Micro Pistol Sight) for duty use. The Kansas Highway Patrol is a law enforcement agency that is responsible for enforcing traffic laws, investigating accidents, and providing assistance to the public within the state of Kansas. The Steiner MPS can be seen here in various pictures. It has a daylight bright dot with 13,000 hours of battery life and mounts on a variety of firearms using the ACRO footprint. It’s not known what the Kansas Highway Patrol is paying for their MPS sights, but if you want to pick one up, the MSRP is $574.99.

The Warner & Swasey name returns to the world of firearm optics with the RDSMicro MOA3 red dot sight. It features a proprietary 1.54″ mount, as well as integral backup iron sights on top of the optic. The RDSMicro MOA3 is exclusivley sold by Geissele.

In the past five years, there has been an absolute boom in new micro-compact pistols. What followed was optics-ready models of those micro-compact pistols. With only a sparse amount of “micro-optics” and seldom in supply or at a feasible price point it was only a matter of time before other brands stepped up to the plate with their own offerings. Several footprints and types have made their mark in this timeframe but most are fragile and expensive. I am excited to say that now it is Vortex Optics’ turn in the spotlight. Today I am glad to introduce the Vortex Defender CCW 3 MOA Red Dot. Let’s dive right into my review!

The past few years have seen an absolute boom in micro-compact handguns and micro red dots to pair with them. I am happy to introduce the new Defender CCW Micro Red Dot from Vortex Optics. Their new red dot is touted as having one of the largest windows as far as micro red dots go. It features a rugged construction with an aspherical lens for a distortion-free sight picture and truer colors as well as a ShockShield™ Polymer Insert for shock absorption and added durability.

KelTec is always coming up with new and interesting guns. Their P17 is one of, if not the, lightest .22LR pistols on the market and one of the most affordable. It’s also now joining the ranks of red dot-capable pistols with the introduction of a red dot-equipped P17 slide.

With the new Burris SpeedBead Vent Rib Mount, you can turn your shotgun into a dynamic hunting tool without any drilling or tapping. According to Burris, their new mount makes it easy to attach and secure any FastFire Series Red Dots, to let you shoot clays, waterfowl, upland birds, and turkeys faster and more accurately. According to the list of features, the red dot will always be centered on the rib and gun when mounted, with no play left or right. There are rib adapters included in the package, to fit multiple rib widths. The MSRP for the new mount is $60.

Bobro Engineering has released a new offset red dot sight mount called  A-BOM (Adjustable BOre axis Mount) that allows adjusting the reflex sight’s angle to align its axis with the bore axis of the host firearm. The adjustments are possible thanks to a center link between the Picatinny rail mount and the red dot mount which can also be removed converting the A-BOM to a conventional red dot mount.

On day three of SHOT Show 2023 we visited Shield Sights who ran us through their host of new and upcoming models. Shield have four optics on the way, the CQS2, the AMS, the SIS2 and the RMSd.

Valhalla Tactical has been making their own light mounts and light bodies. Well, they have expanded their light options like the SOL (Selectable Orientation Light) light mount as well as manufacture their own light heads. With regards to their optic mounts, they already have an adapter plate for the Holosun SCRS.

Ahead of this year’s SHOT Show, SIG Sauer held an independent range day at the Clark County Shooting Complex and one of the brand new products showcased there was a new enclosed pistol red dot optic from SIG’s electro optics division – the Romeo M17.

In our earlier article on SIG Sauer’s pre-SHOT Show range day, we looked at the Next Generation Squad Weapon display and discussed the XM5 rifle’s name change to the XM-7. You might have spotted an interesting new optic in the display, that optic is the new SIG Romeo 9T.

At this year’s SHOT Show EOTECH, in addition to their promising ‘On Gun Laser’, showcased their new flat dark earth colour range. The new FDE range includes G43 and G45 magnifiers and their EFLX pistol red dots.

New from Viridian this year is a closed emitter green dot sight, the FX45.  With a 5 MOA green dot, 6061 aluminum housing and fitting into the Aimpoint ACRO footprint, the Viridian FX45 is available at an MSRP of $459.00.  Viridian is also offering a host of other new and updated sights, lights and lasers.

GPO-USA are set to enter the compact reflex sight market with their Spectra Reflex Dot. With integrated motion sensor tripped on/off, a built-in photo sensor which adjusts the brightness of the 3mm red dot depending on the light conditions and an estimated 25,000 hours battery life. MSRP for the SPECTRA Reflex Dot is $379.99.

Hi-Lux Optics had a few new optics on display at Shot Show 2023. Though they may be best known for their vintage scopes, the do offer modern options as well.

At this year’s SHOT Show Industry at the Range day Holosun had a number of exciting optics on hand which won’t be available until later this year, but its great to know what’s in the pipeline. We’ve already looked at the promising new DRS TH and DRS NV prototypes Holosun brought to the range, alongside them was another new red dot sight for rifles – the SCRS. The model on the line was the green reticle SCRS GR2.

Holosun had a surprise for us at this year’s SHOT Show Industry at the Range day – a pair of brand new prototype optics. The DRS family includes a thermal optic and a night vision optic. While the optics were marked DMS, Holosun told us they would likely be launched as the DRS or Digital reflex Sight.

Our friends at Primary Arms sent over their list of new optics that includes everything from red dots and prisms to a first focal plane (FFP) with a 56mm objective. Branded Odyssey 2023, these Primary Arms optics include binoculars and magnifiers on top of other optics made for various weapons platforms. The one Primary Arms Odyssey 2023 release that caught my attention immediately is also the smallest – the Autolive Battery Cap. This motion activated cap can be added to Primary Arms optics or other manufacturer’s optics to add “waking” capabilities to save battery life.

Komando Pasukan Khusus, a Special Forces unit within the Indonesian National Armed Forces, has selected EOTECH’s Holographic Weapon Sight (HWS) and magnifier. The total number of sighting systems to be supplied to the Indonesian Armed Forces is 1,000 pieces and will be delivered within a few months in 2023.

Meopta Sports Optics is a dual Czech and American operation offering a spectrum of shooting-related optics. Their product catalog includes multiple series of rifle scopes, spotting scopes, binoculars, and more. One of their product lines is a collection of red dot optics. Now a new red dot option is getting added to the family, this time aimed primarily at the pistol optics market. As with most pistol red dots, it can also be used on long guns or as a scope-mounted add-on for longer-range to close-quarters transitions. TFB reader Stephan reached out to me recently about the best way to set up his new Beretta M9A4 RDO (Red Dot Optic-Ready) with a red dot. People’s first foray into the red dot optic market can be a daunting thing between deciding which red dot to go with, which footprint said red dot has, and obtaining the right plate if none is supplied with the pistol. In Stephan’s case of the Beretta RDO series, Beretta’s fine print stated that upon registering a new purchase with the company, they will send the owner one free optics mounting plate, while any additionally desired plates cost $29.

If you’re not yet running a secondary red dot sight on your long-range rifle, then you should definitely look at doing so. I use mine mainly for going from one target to another, and the further apart they are in side or height the more time you will save on the transition. Once the red dot is close enough to your target, you can just drop your eye into that sweet high-magnification of your main optic, and prepare the shot. Reptilia now has another drop-in upgrade for their AUS Mount, or the Geissele Super Precision 34mm optic mounts called ROF-90. The mount is machined from billet 7075-T6 aluminum and anodized in two different colors. The interface works with a number of optics from ⁣⁣Aimpoint, SIG Sauer, Vortex, Primary Arms and Holosun.

This is a review of the Infiray Fast FAL19 34mm Red-Dot Thermal Fusion Scope. TFB were among the first to get a sample to try out this brand-new product and technology, and we had a lot of fun doing so. The FAL19 sight offers a combination between an EOTech-style reticle and a thermal overlay, for a thermal fusion effect. If you don’t need the thermal (and want to save batteries), there is a simple red or green dot only also.

Reptilia Corp is probably most well-known for their optics mounts, though they make a variety of other products such as stocks, grips, and weaponlight bodies. Their optics mounts are available for a broad spectrum of applications, many of which are designed to add red dots onto scope mounts for quick and effective transitions between longer-distance engagements and close-quarters shooting. Other models are built as standalone red dot mounts for non-scoped firearms. They have just announced a new version of their red dot mount, this time supporting the Holosun AEMS micro reflex sight. Shooting shotguns with a red dot makes a lot of sense, and they are a lot of fun to shoot as well. The new Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical comes ready for optics, including receiver cuts that accept a low-profile direct mounting of any Shield RMSc footprint micro dot sight. So it’s no surprise that one of Mossberg’s new packages conveniently includes a Holosun HS407K open reflex sight, so everything is ready out-of-the-box. The 940 Pro Tactical Holosun 6 MOA Micro Dot Combo has an MSRP of $1,333 and the Optics-Ready version goes for $1,189. They both come with an 18.5-inch barrel and a tube for 7+1 rounds.
