Well, this week we take a look at a discontinued product from Insight. The ISM-IR is the integrated sighting module. It is a red dot with an integrated multi-function aiming laser (MFAL), basically a PEQ-15. Let’s take a closer look.

The addition of the P365 to the SIG Sauer concealed carry or everyday carry (EDC) pistol lineup is a success by any measure. Once dominated by low-capacity, single-stack magazine pistols, the P365 brought a compact footprint with a large capacity into the world of carry guns. Since its initial introduction, there have been a handful of sub-models like the P365X, the P365XL, and the MACRO line of guns. Today we are here to discuss one of the latest introductions to the SIG subcompact lineup, the P365-AXG LEGION, an alloy-framed, compensated, and optics-ready version of the P365 series. The open emitter versus closed emitter debate for red dot optics is stacked with two camps of people. The first group prefers a slimmer optic with a svelte profile. The second group prefers die hard dependability in every condition and environment. The new Trijicon RCR red dot optic is an attempt to show the two groups that their requirements are no longer mutually exclusive. I will make the assumption that the majority of slide mounted optic users are equipped with open emitter optics – specifically the Trijicon RMR. So is the RCR a worthy upgrade? Let’s take a look.

Swampfox have introduced a pair of new red dot optics: the Liberty II and Justice II. These second generation red dots are machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and have a matte hard anodizing finish. Both are powered by a CR1632 battery. The Justice II has a 30mm lens, 6 MOA dot or multi-reticle while the Liberty II has a 24mm window, and either a 3 MOA dot or multi-reticle. The Liberty II’s MSRP starts at $249 while the Justice II comes in at $259.

Silencer manufacturer Griffin Armament is getting into the optics game. Their first two products are a 1-8x LPVO and an enclosed micro red dot. 

Enclosed emitter reflex sights are all the rage these days but few companies have put forward a green dot version meant for handguns, that is until now. The new Viridian OPMOD Omega Green Do t will come standard with several different mounts so you can use it either on a native ACRO footprint or adapt it for use on an RMR footprint using the included adapter plate. The Omega Green Dot is currently only being offered in a 5 MOA dot reticle version and has a stated maximum battery life of up to 50 thousand hours.

Red dots and reflex sights were initially intended to be used only on rifles and carbines. Fast forward to today and nearly everyone has adopted the red dot and pistol concept, or is at the very least, aware of it. However, the market for rifle-mounted reflex sights has received a bit more interest as of late and that’s why American Defense Manufacturing is excited to announce their new Vortex Defender-CCW Red Dot packages which will include your choice of a mount fit for whatever long gun or shotgun you want it on and at the height that is most optimal for your specific setup.

Partizan Solutions is expanding its line of micro red dot mounts for the Trijicon ACOG family. The newest models are compatible with LED ACOGs like the TA-02 and TA-110. Let’s take a closer look. 

SIG Sauer have announced that their ROMEO-M17 pistol red dot sight has been given a NATO Stock Number (NSN). NSN 1240-01-713-9795 was developed for the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System program, which adopted the SIG P320 as the M17. NATO Stock Numbers are 13-digit numbers that help standardize supply across the NATO alliance, they are assigned by the National Codification Bureau.

Primary Arms recently added the Classic RD-25 Red Dot Sight that features push button operation to their lineup, which contrasts the knob-operated PA MD-25 in the SLx series. The new 25mm push button red dot sight harkens back to the style of early reflex sights like the Bushnell TRS-25, Aimpoints, hence its position in Primary Arms’ Classic Series of optics. This affordable 1x optic packs some surprising features for $129.99, so let’s dive in.

Colorado-based Swampfox Optics have announced the Sentinel II Micro Dot Sight. Available in red or green illumination, the Sentinel II has 10 brightness levels, shake awake initiation and a 20mm lens with a 3 MOA dot. Swampfox says the slimline Sentinel II has a 50,000-hour battery life and a 7075-T6 aluminum body and reinforced hood. MSRP for the new red dot is $269 with Blackout Rear Sight Guide, and $299 with Tritium.

Occluded shooting is a method of target acquisition practiced mostly among sport shooters, but was developed much earlier for the same purpose – rapid target acquisition while maintaining target-focused rather than dot or sight-focused. A big problem that a lot of shooters, even seasoned ones have when switching from shooting irons to red dots is that it is all too easy to get sucked into the dot and become entirely focused on that rather than on your target. This is where occluded shooting comes in and why Strike Industries has bothered to give you an option rather than tape to slap onto your red dot to practice – the Strike Optic Cover for the Holosun 407/507 and Trijicon SRO.

We are back to continue this deep dive into the Steyr Scout rifle. Part 1 of this review looked at the features of the rifle and some accuracy testing. It also looked at some general features of the rifle and how it differs from a run-of-the-mill bolt gun. For Part 2, we will primarily look at optic selection. 

I have carried a GLOCK 45 MOS every day for over a year in an inside the waistband holster. Equipped with a Surefire 300 Ultra and a Trijicon RMR, this is my perfect EDC gun for almost every situation.  But I didn’t fully appreciate the power of a slide-mounted red dot until I attended a basic two-day optics training class. We’ll talk more about the training in a bit, but my gun with the RMR was the only one that didn’t suffer from sort of optic failure during the drills. Now, officially announced last month, the Trijicon RMR HD adds features and functionality – including a forward facing light sensor – to an already bulletproof optic system for pistols. Let’s take a look.

C&H Precision Weapons has a new line of modular ring mounts for attaching red dots to scope tubes. Rather than place the secondary optic on top of the scope ring, C&H placed it on a ring so it could be placed anywhere on the main tube. This also allows it to sit at any angle.

The red dot market has been steadily seeing all of its major contributors add their own flavor of the enclosed red dot to the market. Riton Optics is no different and today they’ve finally announced their new 3 TACTIX EED (Enclosed Emitter Red Dot). This new addition comes in right around $300 in price and comes standard with a top-loading battery tray, 3 MOA dots, and a couple of adapter plates to fit different handgun optics-cut footprints.

Steiner have announced the release of an FDE version of their popular MPS (Micro Pistol Sight) pistol red dot optic. The MPS has a 3.3 MOA reticle, eight brightness settings and a 13,000-hour battery life. It has various mounting options, weighs 2.05 oz and is powered by a CR1632 battery. The FDE model is available with an MSRP of $689.99.

In this episode of TFBTV, Hop visited the SIG optics factory to watch the Romeo X red dot being assembled by a dystopian machine that hopefully won’t turn on us someday (but it probably will). These optics are the successor to the Romeo Elite and Elite Zero, which had polymer bodies and really annoying buttons. The Romeo X is a step in the right direction, but is it too late to catch up with Holosun?

Last year, Viridian Weapon Tech released the Viridian RFX 35, along with two other new RFX line green dot optics, primarily driven for the optics cut pistol market. However, the new RFX line also comes supplied with a Picatinny mount for equipping them on long guns as well. Out of the new RFX series, the RFX 35 features the largest window, which is also rounded to allow a bit more through-optic sight picture. I spent some time with the RFX 35 mounted for my review of the Glock 45 MOS pistol and afterward mounted it onto a couple AR-15s. Let’s take a look at how the RFX 35 did.

UK-based Shield Sights have announced their expansion into a bigger manufacturing facility. The 26,000-square-foot factory will be refurbished over the next year and once they move in, they will be able to streamline production bringing manufacture, testing and shipping under one roof.

The start of day two at the Leupold Optics Academy began with us confirming our 100 m zero on the Seekins Precision Havak HIT Pro rifle. We would then run a course of fire similar to the previous day, but this time it was at a much more rapid pace. This course of fire was also taking place earlier in the morning with the sun directly facing us. I’m happy to report that even with a lot of sunlight hitting the front of our optics, seeing down range was still really easy with these Leupold scopes. Of course, it really helps when you have an extended hood on the front of your scope as well.

The extremely popular Holosun SCS has just had a new bit of flexibility added to the platform with the addition of the new SCS-320 model. The new SCS-320 is a direct-mount Delta Point Pro footprint and should be a simple install to any optics-ready SIG P320 without the use of an adapter plate. The SCS-320 shares all of the same features and reticle options as the other versions of the SCS optic, this time just in a footprint that allows for a direct mount on P320 handguns and sporting a brand new fully enclosed design.

Aimpoint has been chosen to deliver mini red dot sights to the Alternative Individual Weapon System, designated L403A1 to the UK’s Ministry Of Defence. Deliveries will be handled by Aimpoint’s exclusive UK distributor Edgar Brothers. The Alternative Individual Weapon System consists of three elements – the rifle itself made by Knight’s Armament Company and designated L403A1, the optic system L900A1, and a training system. As part of the optic system, Aimpoint will supply the ACRO® P-2 red dot sight.

Swampfox Optics have introduced their latest, new red/green dot, the Raider 1x Micro Prism optic. The new sight weighs in at just under 8oz and has a 35,000-hour battery life with Shake N’ Wake on/off functionality. The Raider has an MSRP of $279.

Bushnell have released a new reflex sight called  RXM-300 which with a 28mm (1.1″) wide and 24mm (.945″) tall window is the largest open emitter red dot sight ever produced by the company. The RXM-300 sight was designed in cooperation with competition shooter KC Eusebio, however, it’s not a competition-only oriented product and is advertised as being suitable for virtually any application, from competition to self-defense. Let’s take a closer look.

Bravo Company Manufacturing, aka BCM, has a whole new spin on Picatinny rail mounts. The new Angled Torque Mounts do away with the traditional cross-bolt and replace it with an angled screw that pulls against the underside of the rail. BCM claims that this new system offers “unprecedented zero retention.”

EOTECH just announced a new Optics Planet exclusive HWS with a new reticle. The DCR or Danger Close Reticle is a modified EOTECH HWS reticle and comes in the EOTECH OPMOD EXPS2-DCR.
