A Gun Guy's Knife Review: Gerber 06 Auto

It’s funny how guns and knives just go together. I’m willing to bet that if you own a gun, chances are that you own at least one knife. I think I own 10 — I lost count somewhere along the way. I don’t know if the converse is true where many knife owners are also guns owners, but that’s a topic a knife guy can write about.

Stone River's New Ceramic Neck Knives

A piece of equipment that is essential for survival is a good knife. Now, we know, most folks carry either a belt knife or good folder into the field. They are necessary. However, in the military, I used to have an emergency backup knife attached to the front strap of my gear, right at chest level for quick access. Since I don’t wear military gear any more, there is nowhere to attach such a blade.

Primary, Secondary, Tertiary…Part II

Allow me to begin with a disclaimer. I compiled the choices people submitted during the last article. I looked at the comments on both the TFB site and the Facebook page, which you should go to immediately and press “like” if you haven’t already. Comments were also submitted verbally or via email. This is NOT meant to reflect upon the shooting community as a whole. It’s not meant to be a purely scientific study. It’s also not meant to be anything more than percentages based on the comments made. Finally, it is not exhaustive and does not address every individual variable. In reality, all I had to work with was what I was provided as comments. I would caution anyone about drawing inferences from this data due to the small sampling. Also, I’m fully willing to admit the question could have been more narrowly tailored so as to provided more accurate results. So again, this isn’t conclusive. It merely reflects the data provided. With that being said, and for your viewing pleasure, here’s what we ended up with.

Knives and Guns Confiscated By The TSA

Nobody could accuse me of being a fan of the TSA. I have been groped and yelled at to many times by TSA agents (I will post my favorite TSA story below), but I have to admit I like their new Instagram account that shows some of the weapons they have confiscated from peoples carry-on.

Fremont Knives "Farson" Survival tool

Here is an interesting blade that you’ve never thought of owning. The Fremont Knives “Farson” Blade. An interesting modern day take on a prehistoric design which was found in the Great Red Desert in Wyoming. This tool was intended to accomodate a variety of tasks such as chopping, cutting, slicing, and skinning. I took it through a bit of field testing to see if it could hold up to it’s claims.

Primary, Secondary, Tertiary: What's Your Choice?

For years, my friends and I have sent what must be thousands of emails to each other about a single issue: If you were going to be displaced or circumstances were altered to a degree that you would have to rely on only three weapons, which do you choose? Ultimately, the parameters of the conversation were constrained to choosing one rifle, one pistol and one shotgun.

Grayman Satu Ti-Ti Review: One Folder To Rule Them All?

Most knife owners appreciate the peace of mind that comes from an overbuilt tool. Sure, you can cut things with a $0.99 boxcutter, but what if your life depended on it? Wouldn’t you rather have something you know will work time and time again? Grayman is clearly one of the makers who is in touch with this concept. Well known for his robust fixed blades which are built to withstand the rigors of the most unrelentingly harsh environments, it’s no surprise that his entrance into the folder market was equally as tough.
