POTD: Winkler Knives Pick & Glock 43

Today’s Picture shows an interesting and discrete solution for Every Day Carry. Austria meets North Carolina. I could have taken my own pictures of the WK Pick and a Glock 43, but none of mine has a threaded barrel like this one. The minimalistic holster seems pretty nice too. I first saw Winkler Knives at the SHOT Show two years ago and decided I should buy one.

BREAKING: Benchmade Helps PD Destroy Guns – Official Statement

Social media exploded in a flurry of virtual pitchforks and torches last night after the Oregon City Police Department posted three images and a simple statement on Facebook: “Thank you Benchmade Knife Company for assisting us today by cutting up guns that are ready to be destroyed.” Those words, along with the imagery of a pump action shotgun and an SKS being sliced to pieces, enraged both gun and knife owners nationwide. Many supporters of the Oregon-based knife company felt betrayed; after all, guns and knives go together like apple pie and vanilla ice cream.

TFB's 12 Days Of Christmas: Knives, Tools And EDC

If I am allowed one pet peeve related to the Everyday Carry (EDC) industry it would be the so-called pocket dumps splashed across gear sites and on social media. There has to be a segment of our community, albeit small, where three $500 knives, two pistols, two flashlights, a fire starter and a pocket saw is required kit for a daily routine. But like most flashy product layouts, those type of pocket dumps are mostly unrealistic for us mere mortals. I’d love to see a series where real-world EDC aficionados pull out a set of banged up keys, loose change, a S&W 642 no lock wheelgun and a mini Maglight littered with half-wrapped sticks of peppermint gum. But owning proper knives, tools and related gear is an important requirement for even the most casual shooter.

Fourth Of July Fun: Flags, Freedom, Flyers, Flashlights And More

With Independence Day in America fast approaching, I’m supposed to be making grandiose proclamations about liberty, individual freedoms and the pursuit of happiness – all of which I wholeheartedly believe in, mind you. BENCHMADE – The Ultimate Experience

Firearms in Museums Tour: The Dubai Museum

Available to those transiting through or vacationing in Dubai is the tucked away gem of the Dubai Museum and Al Faidi Fort. The museum tells the story of the pre-historic surroundings and the small hamlet that would eventually become the sprawling metropolis that is the Dubai of today. Although the museum itself is an all-encompassing history of the local region, there are a number of displays that pay particular attention to the small arms in use during the late 1800s and early 1900s. If you have limited time in Dubai, certainly enjoy the beaches and the Burj Khalifa, but if you want to see some historical small arms and a bit of Dubai’s journey into the 21st Century, I would highly recommend checking the museum out. Admission is 3 AED for adults and 1 AED for children.

EDC With The Haley Strategic FlatPack

There are endless tactical black or multi-cam bags on the market claiming to be “low profile”. These same bags display numerous Velcro patches, have pals webbing on the outside of the bag, and scream gun! However, the industry is starting to listen to those wanting a quality pack in a very non-descript package. In order to accomplish this task, the bag has to be able to sit next to your standard North Face or Jansport pack and not look substantially different. Let’s take a look at the Haley Strategic FlatPack.

A Knife Made From Parts Of A WWII Mitsubishi Zero

My friend Brian’s neighbor is a relative of Thurston Shinn. Shinn was in the Navy during WWII and was assigned to a PT boat in the Aleutian Islands. Shinn was in the area when the US discovered the famous Akutan Zero. The Zero pilot tried to land the plane in a field but unbeknownst to him what looked like a nice flat field was really just a thin layer of dried mud. Underneath that layer was thick mud which caused the plane to flip over. The pilot died instantly.
