New Knife: CRKT Directive
The Columbia River Knife & Tool company (aka CRKT) is well known for its knives and outdoor tools. I own several of the company’s folders and have found them to be good working blades for the price. Some of the company’s unique features, like the Veff serrations do help them to stand out in a market loaded with quality knives.
The MAD knife from Brazil
Survival knives, utility knives, combat knives, shooting knives… They have appeared by the dozens in the market along the years, and for the real blade buffs today’s choices are virtually limitless. Some, of course, were one-of-a-kind examples that never reached the shops’ shelves or online catalogs at a time when WWW, as an entity, did not even exist. I’ve dug out from my personal files an example of such that appeared in Brazil in the mid-1980s. The MAD knife.
The New OKC Cerberus Folder
Ontario Knife Company (OKC) announced a new folding knife called the Cerberus Folder. According to the company, this knife is suited for a range of duties: from every day carry (EDC) to hunting to tactical uses.
What's Faster A Knife Or Gun?
Danilo Rossi Lajolo di Cossano is an instructor of Italian knife martial arts. In the video below the knife is faster than the gun. At least that is how it is presented. He could be faster if he used a fixed blade but there are some rather fast people who can draw from concealment like TREXarms and other competent shooters.
CRKT Expands Line of Ruger Products
Ruger teamed up with Columbia River Knife & Tool a few years back to produce a line of Ruger branded knives and tools. It seems that line has been successful, and the two companies have further expanded the line this year. The new products include a fixed blade knife called the Muzzle-Brake and a pair of writing instruments: Bolt-Action Pen and Bolt-Action Pencil.
Benchmade Valet: Gold Class Edition
If you are looking for a top quality folding knife that has a price tag that matches the style, Benchmade announced a new Valet.
Bayonets from Brazil: IMBEL Knives
Although not much into knives, as a whole, I’ve found myself always carrying one or another to the field while participating, as a guest journalist, in military maneuvers all around Brazil along decades. Even if never used for any throat-cutting, sentinel-dispatching action, my blades did frequently prove very handy to cut tree branches to make improvised clothes hangers in camps, open food cans, help transform pineapples into valuable hydrating complements to field rations, turning barbecued meats (yes, different kinds…) into added-on proteins to help me keep on following the younger guys, etc.. Since I’ve figured that most of the times I was carrying a locally-made IMBEL – Indústria de Material Bélico do Brasil product, I’ve decided to show and briefly describe to TFB readers some of the blades that have come out of the company’s Fábrica de Itajubá (Itajubá Factory), in Minas Gerais State, in the last 40-or-so years. It’s interesting to notice that most people expect gun writers to automatically become blade experts, but this is not my case: I’m just a plain, average knife user. Enjoy the pictures, though.

Gerber Downrange Tomahawk | SHOT 2017
The new Downrange Tomahawk from Gerber is definitely more of a utility tool and less of a weapon. Though I would not want to be on the receiving end of a chopping attack made with this tomahawk, it appears more suited for breaching work than close quarters combat.

20 Knives of Russian Military and Law Enforcement
In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the relatively rare or new knives, bayonets and multi-tools of Russian armed forces and special police units. Some of these edged weapons are adopted in small quantities by special forces, others are newly adopted and are being widely supplied to Russian armed forces. I’ll skip the well known and old ones like AK-47 and AK-74 bayonets, about which there is a plenty of information available. Also, this post doesn’t include machetes and axes. So, without further ado, let՛s get started (in no particular order):

Is the age of the Bayonet over? An example through the Marines of 1/1
The Marine Corps Times (not affiliated with the USMC) released an article detailing the activities of Marine Infantrymen from Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines while undergoing training in the Cultana Training Area of South Australia. Post OIF/OEF, infantry battalions traveling to Australia as part of Marine Rotational Force Darwin, UDPs (Universal Deployment Program) to Okinawa, or the usual MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) has become the new routine for the Victor units of the Fleet (active duty infantry battalions). However, with this particular exercise in Australia, I noticed something interesting about the units live fire attack.
Hunting Gear: ScentPURGE BigMOUTH Bag
To some hunting season is right around the corner and for others it’s year-round; whenever and wherever you hunt, this new bag might interest you. This is more than just a bag for toting stuff around, though. It’s the ScentPURGE BigMOUTH Bag, and if it delivers as promised it would be a welcome addition to my own must-have hunting gear.
