On the Sunday before this year’s SHOT Show, TFB and TFBTV were invited to attend the Sig Sauer Range Day at the Clark County Shooting Complex about 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas. The complex itself was incredible, with bays that catered to every type of shooter imaginable. Sig had arranged for a type of ‘Opening Ceremony’ that was an awesome display of former special operations guys dropping in via parachute and assaulting a group of autonomous motorized targets. The MCX-outfitted unit was backed up by a team of former soldiers and law enforcement officer from the Sig Sauer academy. The sweet display of force lasted about 20 minutes followed by an analysis of the the guns, gear and tactics used by each of the operators.

You may never heard about Aguila Ammunition, but they have been around for a long time. The company was founded in 1961, and to this day, ammunition is manufactured in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico.

Global Ordnance is a company known throughout the world for sourcing and providing arms and munitions to government and law enforcement entities. At SHOT Show 2019 they brought with them something I mis-identified as an energy drink, and boy was I wrong! They have a new, creative way of selling ammunition in a sealed pop can they are dubbing CanMunition.

Anyone who is interested in long-range and precision shooting probably knows about Norma. Swedish company, it was founded in 1902 by Enger brothers from Oslo, Norway, who had founded Norma Projektilfabrik A/S in Norway a few years earlier. Norma is world famous for their high quality hinting ammunition. At the 2019 Shot Show Norma presented its new hunting round – Bond strike extreme.

Composite munitions manufacturer True Velocity has announced their partnership with General Dynamics – Ordnance & Tactical Systems in working to win the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon system program. Back in July 2018, TFB reported that General Dynamics was one of five manufacturers to be awarded prototype development contracts as part of the Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle program.

Last year, at SHOT Show, we talked about the Hailey Ordnance Company and their line of ammunition loaded with very heavy projectiles. This year, we found out that the production of this ammunition has already started but it is transferred to Hailey Ordnance Company’s sister company – Seismic Ammunition.

With the Industry Day at the Range underway at SHOT Show 2019, Winchester is one of the 1st companies to pop off something new! They have introduced a NEW straight-wall cartridge to the shooting world dubbed the 350 Legend! This cartridge could be the next “sliced bread” for hunters because it will be legal in 47 of 50 states for hunting purposes. It also is going to boast some pretty impressive ballistics.

I think many will agree that shooting Rimfire is one of the funniest things you can do, a feeling which will only grow if you throw economy into the equation.

Here’s a celebration to a very unique magazine. It is made by Magpul (who else?) but was released through LWRC INTERNATIONAL, LLC. You can see it attached to the the Six8-PDW above.

The Ukrainian  Ministry of Internal Affairs has published a news release telling about the visit of Arsen Avakov, head of the ministry, to FORT company where a new handgun ammunition line was launched. According to Mr. Avakov, this new production line will allow to completely fulfill the demand of the Ukrainian Border Guard, National Guard, Police, and other law enforcement agencies.

Hornady must have noticed the barrels of ammunition Federal Premium recently produced. The barrels that Federal now sells are either 5.56 NATO with 12,500 rounds or 7.62 NATO with 7,500 rounds! Either in direct competition or just keeping in line with the marketplace, Hornady now has a Frontier Cartridge Barrel with even more 5.56 NATO rounds in it with 13,889 total! While that is an odd number, for sure, you are getting slightly more than the Federal barrel.

Hornady has announced through a Press Release on their website on December 11th that they have been awarded an ammunition contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to supply an undisclosed amount of their 300 PRC ammo for the long-range sniper program. In conjunction with Hornady’s ammunition, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing was also awarded a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide an undisclosed number of MRAD rifle systems chambered in the Hornady® 300 PRC caliber. The .450 Bushmaster continues to grow in popularity throughout the country with more and more regions requiring that hunters use “straight-wall” cartridges. With those types of guidelines being set in place, Federal Premium like many companies is looking to serve the consumer with more options in the way of ammunition. Just in time for the festive season Brownells have introduced two barrels of Christmas cheer. The barrels contain 12,500 rounds (that’s nearly 420 30 round mags worth) of either 5.56×45 or 7.62×51 ammunition. Ideal for that hard to buy for shooter who has all the latest rifle accessories. The bright yellow barrels are filled with new manufacture Federal Lake City ammunition.

Wilson Combat has published several videos where Bill Wilson, the founder of Wilson Combat, and master firearms instructor Ken Hackathorn discuss the new .300 HAM’R cartridge that the company has introduced earlier this year. In these videos, they also shoot the new cartridge and compare it to .30-30 Winchester and 7.62x39mm.

SIG Sauer has launched a new 9mm +P ammunition line named after the US Military’s new pistol – M17. The M17 9mm ammunition is currently available loaded with either an FMJ or V-Crown JHP projectiles. The former is offered for use in training and the latter is a defensive round. Both bullets have an identical weight of 124 grains.

Federal Premium has been acquiring a lot of ammunition contracts throughout 2018 of notable size and prominence. The most recent contract being one for a staggering $75 Million with the United States Department of Homeland Security (US DHS). It’s a well-known fact that the AR is categorically superior to the AK and the Kalashnikov is suitable only for dirty commies and the poors. There are a lot of reasons for this fact, but today we are going to focus on reliability and the ballistic differences between common FMJ for AKs and ARs, after touching briefly on the ergonomic inferiority of the AK.

“Some” being some powders/brands of ammunition, that is.  Australian Outback Ammunition, however, is designed to be consistent in a wide range of temperatures.  I personally first heard about Australian Outback Ammo in a print article that was discussing the effects of ambient temperatures on ammunition peak pressure and velocity.  AOA (Australian Outback Ammunition) has branded their ammo as having “Ballistic Temperature Independence”, or BTI.

In part 1 of this review of Fort Scott Munitions’ TUI (Tumble upon impact) Solid copper spun (brass in the case of the 5.56) ammunition, we took a look at their short range offerings in 9mm and .300 Blackout.  To reiterate:  These rounds are designed to tumble upon impact with soft tissue and create wound trauma via hydrostatic shock while retaining over 95% of the original weight of the projectile.  While the .300 Blackout and 9mm offerings performed well, Fort Scott also sent me some 5.56 and .308 cartridges to try out.

Ballistic Advantage is closing out one of their products, a stainless steel AR-15 barrel for 5.56. It is a pistol-length barrel at only 7.5″, and has a QPQ corrosion resistant finish. The barrel’s twist is 1:7, and it does have a threaded muzzle. This barrel’s 416R stainless steel means it will foul less and be easier to clean than a comparable 4150 Chrome Moly barrel, as well as being superior for competition shooting due to its increased accuracy for short groups of shots.

Fort Scott Munitions is a manufacturer of bullets and complete loaded cartridges, specializing in solid copper spun (SCS) bullets designed to tumble upon impact, hence the acronyms TUI and SCS applying to their projectiles.  They’ve sought to make a bullet that couples a lot of penetration with the trait of tumbling upon impact with soft tissue.  Their bullets are also engineered to retain over 95% of mass after impact.

A Russian group of companies called “Promishlenniye Technologii” (“Промышленные Технологии”, means “Industrial technologies”) which includes the ORSIS arms factory, as well as the  Tula and Ulyanovsk ammunition plants, has announced that they have been negotiating with the Armenian government officials concerning the building of a new ammunition plant in Armenia. The announcement was published on the website of ORSIS arms company.

It’s almost become commonplace to hear a story about a 300 Blackout round finding its way into a 5.56 AR pattern rifle (or vise versa).  It seems like this stories have become almost routine to hear among AR enthusiasts, a group that often owns both calibers. Now as most of you already know, this is an easy mistake to make.  Both rounds were designed to use the same magazine, making it easy to slip in the wrong round when you’re not looking.

Deals of the Week number two, now with mags and ammo!

In a surprising move, Honor Defense is now offering a line of frangible hollow-point (HP) ammunition to the public. Their immediate flavors are your usual suspects for modern carry calibers. Where a lot of gun manufacturers are now offering ammo, but produced by an outside party, it appears they may actually be making this in-house.
