Y-man's home-made slug shooting adventures continue [ Part 7 ]
[ Y-Man, our resident Nigerian shotgunner, continues his series of guest articles about his quest to build the perfect shotgun. Being one of the lucky few in Africa to legally own a gun, he has to fabricate many parts and ammunition himself because supplies of gun parts are so limited. You can read Part 6 here. ]
Why Tactical Guys Should Like The Beretta A400
I am a tactical gun guy. I am not interested in spending a cold, wet morning in a duck blind, and I have little interest in competition shotgun shooting, although I like shooting clays and I respect the skills of those who are very good at it.
Benelli Super Vinci
Benelli’s Vinci autoloader shotgun is now available in a version capable of chambering 3.5″ magnum shells. The new version is called the Super Vinci and is the first significant upgrade to the Vinci line since its introduction in 2009. It costs about $300 more than the standard Vinci.

18 Doves/Minute with the Winchester SX3 20 Gauge
Doves are a major ecological problem in Argentina where a significant amount of crops are consumed the birds. Bird shooters from all over the world head to the Cordoba region of Argentina where there are an estimated 30 million doves (for comparison, the whole of Argentina has a population of just over 40 million people!) for hardcore shooting.
Amazing Homemade Revolving Shotgun
This 12 gauge revolving is very impressive. Other than the barrel, chambers (made from old barrels) and the hammer (from a 1857 Remington revolver), this gun is completely homemade. It cocks using a lever underneath the action.
Mossberg Blackwater branded shotguns
Of all the weird guns at SHOT Show, none left me more puzzled than Mossberg’s new range of Blackwater branded shotguns.
Beretta A400 Xcel: With Shot Counter, Temperature & Cartridge Power Computer!!!
The most nifty gun at SHOT that I did not see must have been the Beretta A400 Xcel, the new competition model in the Beretta A400 line.
Big gun, Short lived. Taurus 28 Gauge Revolver.
On Friday night Michael Bane told me that BATFE visited the Taurus booth at SHOT Show and declared that the 28 gauge revolver was in fact a SBS (Short Barreled Shotgun), not a handgun.
Long Range (200+ yard) slug
The below video shows a Benelli Super 90 (modified with standard hunting stock) loaded with 1 oz. Winchester foster-style slugs hitting the target at 230 yards.
Photos of the Mossberg Chainsaw
The Mossberg Chainsaw may look gimmicky, and shooting from the hip is not a good way to utilize your pump-action, but it works surprisingly well.
The No Country For Old Men shotgun and its maker
Larry Zanoff, of Independent Studio Services, has been the armorer for many movies. He built the iconic suppressed shotgun used in No Country For Old Men. This photo was taken by Gregory Markle at the NRA Booth at SHOT Show.
