Is the .357 Magnum Snubnose Revolver a Bad Idea?

There’s no question that the small frame .357 Magnum revolver is an EDC legend. Dependable, compact, and powerful, the snubnose revolver is still a popular choice for concealed carry over a century after the snubby was introduced. But should it be as popular as it is, still? Within the past decade, ultra compact, dependable, high capacity semi-automatic handguns like the SIG SAUER P365, Glock 43X, and Smith & Wesson Shield Plus have skyrocketed in popularity for good reason, but at the same time, advances in metallurgy and ammo technology have also improved the revolver at the same pace, with these pocket rockets pushing out more power in smaller, lighter packages. Today, James Reeves tests out the smallest, lightest .357 Magnum ever made, the Smith & Wesson 340PD, and fires it under stress at 20 feet, 30 feet, and 50 feet to see if a gun this small with this much horsepower is still a good idea. Check out the results.

Are Single Stack Handguns Obsolete?

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves asks: “Are single stack handguns now obsolete?” It’s a fair question in view of the so-called “one and a half stack” micro compacts like the S&W Shield Plus, SIG P365, Springfield Hellcat, and Ruger MAX-9. These are all guns that are an inch thick or less, weigh less than a pound and a half, and have an overall height of about 4 inches. Now you can get 10 or 11 rounds of capacity instead of 6 or 7 in the same size frame. In this video, we test single stack versus double stack versus micro-compact with 10 shooters at St. Bernard Indoor Shooting Center to see what performs the best.

Best Suppressor for the AR-15? [.223 versus .308 Cans]

In this episode of TFBTV filmed at SilencerCo in Salt Lake City, James Reeves and Austin R. from The Firearm Blog go to SilencerCo’s lab to answer the question: “Which silencer do I get for my AR-15? A .223 or a .308 can?” This is a difficult question because .308 cans are more versatile and can be used with more calibers including .300 Blackout. On the other hand, .223 cans are lighter, smaller, and usually less expensive. In this video, we have a blind panel compare the sound from each without knowing which is which, and asking what they think about .223 versus .308 cans. After the guys give their opinions, we hook the AR-15 up to a sound meter to see which one is actually quieter. The results may surprise you.
