In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves gets hands on with Zastava’s new M85/Z85 Tactical, which was unveiled at SHOT Show 2020. The new M85 Tactical is a Zastava-made, Zastava-imported, and Zastava-converted 10″ .223/5.56mm “Krinkov” style AK in “pistol” format including a brace, AR-15 buffer tube adapter, a CNC Warrior brake, and a quad-rail handguard with angled foregrip. In this episode of TFBTV, James reviews the TSA databases and the FAA traveler traffic reports to figure out which airports found the most guns at TSA security checkpoints in 2019. While it’s easy to predict which airports may have taken the most firearms from passengers, James dives deeper, looking into which airports took the most guns per ticketed passenger, rather than the most guns total. James considered only those airports that confiscated at least 50 guns from passengers in 2019, leaving about 30 airports to look at nationally. Check out the list.

Brannon LeBouef walks through some of the pros and cons, both actual and perceived, of the differences between a traditional “American” button magazine release and a “European” paddle release. Using the #hkvp9 and #hkvp9B to show this, he also walks through some of the features of the VP line of pistols in general and why they are exceptional guns, especially the trigger. Keeping in mind that there have been some changes to the design concurrent with the release of this video as seen in Brannon’s #shotshow2020 coverage of #hecklerandkoch, these are still top end duty/EDC guns. As expected these guns, as well as the guns Brannon has in the rental cases at The St. Bernard Indoor Shooting Center have functioned reliably and without issue. The VP9 series is a robust and consumer priced option for a full-sized striker-fired gun, and also comes in compact sizes and other calibers.

Canik is entering the handgun mounted optics market with their latest version of the TP9 Elite in a subcompact variant complete with a standard optic mount. The optic is a RIVIS red dot optic complete with co-witness iron sights that shooters can still utilize while aiming through the optic itself.

CMMG had a number of new entries at their booth this year in their 300 Banshee series of AR pistols with telescoping braces. Of note is their 9x19mm conversion upper receiver that when paired with a Magpul PMAG and conversion spring/follower allows shooters to use their existing PMAG magazines instead of a proprietory magazine or a Glock magazine in a proprietory magazine well. Also released was a dedicated 10mm AR pistol in a glossy white finish.

Chiappa’s new Black Rhino CBR-9 charges into the 9mm PDW/PCC pistol market with a low axis barrel and a unique design to reduce muzzle flip. The CBR-9 comes with ambidextrous features and a collapsing brace. We go hands on with the new design and check out the firearm’s unique design.

Command Arms Accessories is bringing an updated version of their Roni carbine conversion for popular handguns. Updated this year is an integrated light mount, pistol brace, and a grip that functions as a spare magazine when one is inserted. There are plans to bring a version in for H&K handguns as well.

Sightmark is coming out with solar-powered red dot optics, the Element and the Volta. We asked Sightmark how the sights would work in the dark or while in the gun safe, then taken out and the answer is a backup battery that will power the optic while in the dark.

CCI highlighted some of their latest .22 LR offerings, to include a new subsonic line with a polymer coating that allows cleaner shooting than normal .22 LR rounds as less copper is shed in the barrel and suppressor when the rounds are fired. CCI also has a Breast Cancer awareness brand with proceeds donated to support cancer treatments and research. And finally, CCI has partnered with .22 Plinkster and MeatEater to bring the respective Youtube channel’s favorite ammunition offerings to market.

Rise Armament is coming out with a 14-inch AR pistol that comes with a telescoping brace along with a 16-inch rifle variant. These will be available in a month’s time from Rise Armament. The pistol and rifle come with Magpul components and a Rise Armament handguard that comes with 6 QD mounts and a minimal rail.

The Ultimax Mark VIII has been out for several years now but this is the first time that the light machine gun has been out on Range Day at SHOT Show, allowing the public to get some hands-on with the light machine gun. Developed in the 1980s by Jim Sullivan, the Ultimax is perhaps most famous for its extremely controllable rate of fire (sometimes balancing the buttstock on a shooter’s nose or chin). Despite decades since its inception, the light machine gun still hasn’t seen widespread adoption throughout militaries throughout the world. The Mark VIII attempts to change that by showing the U.S. market what ST Engineering (ST Kinetics, formerly Chartered Industries of Singapore, CIS) still has to offer.
