In this episode of TFBTV’s SHOT Show 2019 Industry Day at the Range coverage, James interviews the guys from American Tactical about their new Galils.  Essentially, American Tactical has taken Galil parts kits and manufactured their owned CNC steel receivers to mate to these parts kits, making bona fide Galils for the US market using the receiver and other parts to make the guns US law compliant. On the 1st day of SHOT Show when the convention center doors open and firearm lovers rush the floor like it is Black Friday, we have an announcement from Boyds Gunstocks. Geissele shows off their Super Duty Rifle at Shot Show Range Day. They will have two versions, one for civilians and one for Law Enforcement.

Heckler and Koch had their new .22LR HK416 clone rifle and pistol at range day. Some of you may recall a similar set of HK416 clones by Umarex/Walther. These are based on the same gun but brought under H&K USA control.

In this episode of TFBTV’s SHOT Show 2019 Industry Day at the Range coverage, James interviews Dave Kiwacka from Hi-Point about the second generation of the Hi-Point C9. In essence, Hi-Point has taken the C9 and brought it up to date, with new tactical features like threaded barrels, forward slide serrations, interchangeable backstraps, and perhaps most notably, a double stack 10 round flush fit magazine. Dave runs down the new improvements in this exclusive TFBTV early look.

Hi-Point Firearms, the affordable gun company we all know and love, is coming out with a NEW handgun! And it is called… THE… actually, Hi-Point has not decided on a name yet. It is a pistol they are still honing, polishing, and engineering to deliver on customer feedback. For the time being, Hi-Point is temporarily dubbing it the New C9 since it lends a lot of parts from their staple 9mm.

The Ultimax 100 is the light machine gun for the Singaporean Army. Formerly ST Kinetics, ST Engineering is the Singaporean company who makes the Ultimax and they were at Range Day. Unfortunately they opted to be a non-shooting vendor at Range Day but we got to check out the newest version, the Ultimax 100 MK8.

It was merely 15 days ago that The Firearm Blog broke the news that Colt was bringing back their highly coveted snake gun in the King Cobra. Now that a few weeks have passed we have more information relating to this newly re-birthed revolver. Last year, at SHOT Show, we talked about the Hailey Ordnance Company and their line of ammunition loaded with very heavy projectiles. This year, we found out that the production of this ammunition has already started but it is transferred to Hailey Ordnance Company’s sister company – Seismic Ammunition.

Battle Arms Development’s already crazy light OIP rifle keeps losing weight!  The OIP Gen 2 drops a few ounces due to BAD’s new carbon fibre grip, available with either an “OIP” or chevrons cut into the grip.  The new weight of the rifle is 3.8lbs.   That’s nearly in the territory of the ENYO. I was fortunate enough to get some trigger time with the OIP, and I was impressed.  The titanium Thumper brake helps make this light rifle controllable.  In fact, I found it almost as controllable as my competition rifle, a JP Enterprises SCR-11.

One exciting company to see at SHOT Industry Day at the Range was ST Engineering Land Systems.  Best known for their constant-recoil Ultimax LMGs and their SAR21 bullpup rifles, they had a new rifle and a rarely seen PDW on display this year.

About a week ago we reported about the release of this new semi-auto shotgun and today, at the Range Day of SHOT Show 2019, we had a chance to take a closer look and shoot the Armscor VR80 12 gauge semi-auto AR-style shotgun.

Dark Storm Industries (DSI) attended SHOT Show’s “Industry Day at the Range,” and they brought along some new goodies for the shooting world to see! They unveiled 3 new AR patterned rifles and pistols in total covering a pretty wide gamut of the caliber spectrum. Let’s take a quick look at each new offering they have for all of us.

Shooting the 7.5 FK Field Pistol has been a goal of mine since I learned about the platform.  Unfortunately,   this power handgun is a rare specimen in the wild.  At SHOT this year, FK BRNO was kind enough to give us ample trigger time both pre-range day and on Industry Day at the Range as well.  While TFB’s Pete has written up a great review of the gun, Andrew has thoroughly tested the ammunition and James has had his own musings, this was the first I had seen the pistols be shot a lot by a lot of people.

With the Industry Day at the Range underway at SHOT Show 2019, Winchester is one of the 1st companies to pop off something new! They have introduced a NEW straight-wall cartridge to the shooting world dubbed the 350 Legend! This cartridge could be the next “sliced bread” for hunters because it will be legal in 47 of 50 states for hunting purposes. It also is going to boast some pretty impressive ballistics.

On my way down to link up with the good folks at OSS Suppressors, I noticed a very awesome little bolt action pistol on one of their tables: Gear Head Works much anticipated ONE pistol in .300 Blk.  I gave the firearm a good looking over, and the fit and finish are excellent.  Gear Head has been working hard on refining this firearm to sub-MOA specs.  Everything from the side folding brace to the chassis to the bolt and trigger felt extremely polished and well made.  Keep in mind this is after 5 hours of being shot and knocked around by hordes of media and buyers attending Industry Day at the Range.

From the land of gems and potatoes come the new PWS MK1 PRO line.  Unvieled to us at SHOT 2019, the PRO MK111 Pistol and PRO MK116 rifle still have the long-stroke piston and excellent features that PWS is known for, but differ in a key area:  They cost 1/2 the price of the MK1 MOD2 line!  This is achievable because the upper receivers are not forged and machined, but rather 6061 extrusions.  Another difference is the PRO line comes with standard A2 flashers instead of the fancier compensators found on other PWS firearms.  MSRP for complete guns is $995.95, and uppers are also available for $649.95.

‘Tis the season. Tomorrow we embark on that annual pilgrimage to the place where good ideas, money and a savage customer base collide. Of course, we always end up covering a few of the bad ideas as well. The 2019 SHOT Show is the firearm industry’s biggest showcase of the year. In decades past, SHOT was primarily the place where the majority of manufacturer, distributor and dealer business was handled for the upcoming year. If you’ve never been to the show, most booths, especially the bigger ones, have built in meeting rooms carved out behind the scenes where deals are penned. Excitement was built upon new product releases that had never been seen prior to day one of that year’s SHOT Show.

Back in December 2017 we reported that Barrett would be launching their new 7.62x51mm REC10 rifle, now in 2019 it’s finally here. Barrett have confirmed that the REC10 will be introduced at SHOT Show 2019.

At SHOT 2018 I was walking over to Horus Vision to speak with founder Dennis Sammut when an unexpected sight greeted me:  Todd Hodnett of Accuracy 1st was running people through a virtual reality video game designed to train users of the Horus Vision system of reticles.  Todd is an amazing long range shooter and an excellent instructor.  Though the line to try the “Horus Virtual Reality Experience” was too long for me to wait in, I did get to watch a few people try it out, and hear Todd’s excellent explanation of Horus’ Tremor3 reticle.  If anything, the system looks like a good way to keep up on long-range shooting skills if one lives in an area where deep snow impedes such activities during the winter.

I do enjoy DeSantis Gunhide’s products.  They make some of my favorite IWB and pocket holsters for micro-compact semiautos.  Back when I was involved with firearms retail, they were also a super friendly and easy company to deal with as a small business.  At SHOT 2018, they showed me some of their more wild creations, including these two clear OWB Kydex holsters.

According to a Press Release from the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) and the Sands Expo have come to an agreement that SHOT Show will remain at the Sands until the year 2027.

Guys, bear with me: SHOT 2018 was a MAGNIFICENT event in recent times for my life! I have a lifetime of stories from SHOT 2018 and imagine how it goes when I make it to SHOT 2019!

In a continuation of the experiences I had at SHOT 2018, I visited exhibitions which could actually have a chance at penetrating the very highly restricted firearms environment in my country.

FJ Feddersen has been in the barrel manufacturing business for almost 40 years. Located in East Tennessee since 2000, the manufacturing facility features top-of-the-line machinery. Mills, lathes, CNC machines, heat-treating ovens, and more fill the 17,500 square foot shop floor.

The industry is packed with new personal defense weapons (PDW’s) in all shapes, calibers, and sizes with the intent of providing a small but controllable package that can be easily deployed and give a large force multiplier in a small package. While many give up a large amount of velocity and ballistic capability by shortening barrels, Cry Havoc has gone an entirely different direction. While giving up a short 2-3 seconds to assemble the rifle, the Quick Release Barrel (QRB) Kit allows for a full-length rifle to be concealed on or off the body but quickly attached on demand with no permanent aftermarket modifications to the firearm and is compatible with a large assortment of Free Float Hand Guards.
