The Mesa and Ridgeline series of rifles from Christensen Arms are some of their most affordable. Now they are adapting to the rising .28 Nosler and hard-hitting .450 Bushmaster calibers as well. Two niche calibers with very different uses. The .28 Nosler is great for hunting big-game or targets when you need to phone in a long-distance hit. The .450 Bushmaster may never be ideal for a 1,000 yard gong, but it will definitely roll a pig into next week. Now you can have your pick of either caliber in the Mesa or Ridgeline.

The Enhanced Micro Pistol (EMP) series of carry guns by Springfield Armory has been a hit for 1911 lovers. Especially so with the new EMP4 Concealed Carry Contour. By offering a longer barrel and sighting radius, a fiber optic front sight and curb appeal to match its utility, the newer 4″ version has made its way into more people’s safes than even previous offerings. With the Glock Gen 5 recently being announced companies like Overwatch Precision are dropping updated versions of just about everything they currently make for the gen 4 Glocks. Nosler has just unveiled several new E-Tip loads just in time for hunting season, along with the first .30-caliber RDF (Reduced Drag Factor) load for precision use.   The Nosler E-Tip is a boat-tail, nontoxic, solid gilding metal bullet.  The composition is 95% copper and 5% zinc.  Featuring a ballistic tip seated over an expansion cavity, Nosler claims 95% weight retention with the E-Tip.  The RDF bullet is claimed to have “the smallest. most consistent meplats of any hollow point match bullet”.

When it comes to firearms, lefties are always being forgotten or left out of dominant-hand shooting fun. After all, they are the minority when any firearm company decides to tool up a line to build a firearm. One company that has always been more inclusive and welcoming to our left-handed friends is Savage Arms. They are now extending that inclusiveness to their BA Stealth Chassis rifles. Simultaneously, they are adding in another caliber to the mix with the bread ‘n butter .223 Remington.

When you think of iconic and historic firearm companies it is typically a short list that comes to mind. Colt, for most enthusiasts, should be on that list. Similarly, when you think of reputable safe companies Liberty Safes comes to mind. So why not pair the two together? Colt’s legendary name and reputation proudly displayed on the front of a Liberty Safe. I personally did not sit in on the board meeting that decided this move, but the reasoning sounds plausible.

The 6.5 Creedmoor as a caliber has been experiencing an exponential rise in popularity as of late. Adding fuel to that fire is Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) with their new P6.5 Edge rifle chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor.

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has just released a version of their Ruger American Rifle Ranch Model chambered in 7.62x39mm. The rifle is also designed to accept Ruger Mini Thirty magazines of varying capacities. Shipped with the rifle is a 5 round magazine, but aftermarket and higher capacity magazines are available both from Ruger and throughout the market. Ruger representatives expressed an interest and demand for the caliber throughout the U.S. market.

This is a first for them and has surprised a lot of us since they normally stick to loaded ammunition, primers and brass. The coordination of guns and technology between Daniel Defense and Cerakote has recently been able to produce just that. Daniel Defense’s new Cerakote Elite finish is being touted as not only stronger, but more impervious to scratches and abrasions.

Could this be a trend towards Federal attacking the reloading bullets market?… Time will definitely tell. The 6.5 Creedmoor is truly steam-rolling the firearms industry with its recent popularity. More and more companies are chambering this hot caliber and ammunition manufacturers like Federal Premium are quick to follow suit. Federal Premium most recently added the 6.5 Creedmoor into their line of Trophy Copper ammunition.

New from Ed Brown Products, the custom 1911 manufacturers, is the LS10 long-slide 10mm.  Equipped with a 3.25 MOA Trijicon RMR and tall trijicon night sights, this 43oz powerhouse can take advantage of heavier 10mm loads due to the 6″ barrel.  Paired with some Cor-Bon or Buffalo Bore, this would be a good option for filling that short-range weapon season tag, or for hunters who prefer to use a handgun during the general season.

It looks like Ruger quietly rolled out a 6.5 Creedmoor Gunsite Scout as a Davidson’s exclusive without so much as a peep as far as I can tell. With the 6.5 Creedmoor skyrocketing in popularity, it only makes sense that Ruger rolls out a Gunsite Scout chambered for the super flat shooting cartridge.

UTAS-USA has launched a new limited edition of the XTR-12 competition shotgun being produced by their custom shop. Sadly, UTAS-USA’s press release offered near no information about the limited edition shotgun other than an MSRP of $1349, the fact that there are limited quantities and a short list of features.

I am going to admit, I have been putting off writing this post for a bit because I really hate reporting bad news. Ruger recently announced that they experienced a reasonably significant earnings drop for the second quarter of 2017 translating to smaller payouts for stock holders. Reporting only $299.2 million in net sales this quarter, Ruger just didn’t come close to the same period of 2016 where Ruger reported net sales of $341.1 million.

Blaser rifles never quite caught on here in the US, but are well known across Europe and among small circles of hunters in the US that appreciate precision engineered rifles. Using the same mindset used when designing some of the world’s most interesting hunting rifles, Blaser has now stepped into the optics game by founding German Sports Optics.

Century Arms has started shipping the new version 7.62x39mm boat tail FMJ ammo to retailers, making AK guys pretty dang happy I imagine. The new load will be sold under Century’s Red Army Label and will have some features that most AK shooters will undoubtedly appreciate quite a lot.
