POTD: Jegertroppen – World's First All-Female Special Forces Unit
TFB’s Photo Of The Day is where you can discover the World of firearms through the camera lens. Every day we run a new theme, a few selected pictures, and a short story and credit to the person behind the lens. Today we’re looking at some photos from 2013, from when the Norwegian Defense decided to establish a Special Forces unit only consisting of females. At the time, 2000 females were invited to apply to the unit. It was reported then to be the world’s first all-female special forces unit. The unit is called Jegertroppen (translated: Hunter Troop) and you can find their recruiting homepage here.
POTD: New Uzi Pro with SilencerCo Omega 9k and Aimpoint T2
Some say the new Uzi Pro is boring but in this edition of TFB’s Photo Of The Day, we’ll prove you wrong. POTD: HK G36 and MG3 in Freundeskreis Panzerlehrbrigade 9
We visit Freundeskreis Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Germany in our Photo Of The Day. Above you can spot a Rheinmetall MG 3 machine gun and a Heckler & Koch G36 rifle. While a machine gun may be noisy, it’s nothing compared to the 30 mm automatic cannon on the Puma IFV below.
POTD: U.S. Marines in Fuji Viper
There’s a lot of action going on in today’s Photo Of The Day. We have a bunch of U.S. Marines with the 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, using a variety of weapons systems in order to seize an enemy position. This happened during a live-fire combat rehearsal called Fuji Viper 21.3 at the Combined Arms Training Center, Camp Fuji, Japan, in mid-April 2021.
POTD: Proficiency Training in Djibouti
Welcome to TFB’s Photo Of The Day. As the name implies, this page is dedicated to rare and unique pics which are updated daily, and I guess that short shotgun got your attention? Did you ever fire one? What did you think? Did you find it hard or easy to hit your target? These pictures are from an undisclosed location in Djibouti, where members of the 82nd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron conducted proficiency training across multiple weapon systems earlier this year.
POTD: Kalashnikovs in Syria
Photo Of The Day and we go back in history a few years. We’re looking at Syrian Democratic Forces soldiers providing security during a simulated patrol mission in the Deir ez-Zor province, in Syria, 2018. As you can see in the following pictures, they’re all equipped with various Kalashnikovs.
POTD: Heckler & Koch HK416 A7 with Estonian Special Forces
The HK416 A7 is still not up on the HK website, I can only find the A5 version. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. For those who have been around TFB for a few years, may remember that we reported about it back in 2017 in “ HK416 A7 to be called G95 by the German Special Forces” article. We also had our hands on it at the Heckler & Koch booth at EnforceTac 2018. I assume I’m not the only one longing for the next trade show?
POTD: Polish Snipers in PRS Inspired Competition
Precision Rifle Series (PRS) can best be described as a mixture between long-range and precision rifle shooting and practical shooting. TFB recently reported about the plans for a Precision Rifle World Championships in 2022, and hopefully, it will happen.
POTD: Rounds On Target with the M4 Service Rifle
Nothing to do? Each day you are welcome to TFB’s selection of photo highlights. However, you can find links and more details below to take you further.

POTD: Poland Testing The New UKM 2020 Machine Gun
Photo Of The Day: Above you can see some left-handed shooting with the UKM 2020 machine gun. As Poland changed teams and joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) in 1999, the challenge to adapt their firearms to common NATO ammunition arose. The PKM machine gun was already being produced in Poland under licence, but it needed a serious redesign to be able to accept the new ammunition (7.62x51mm NATO) as well as the links and belt that hold them.
POTD: U.S. Army Machine Guns in Poland
The location in this Photo Of The Day is Poland where we take a peek at the U.S. Army 2nd Cavalry Troops as they offer support by fire during an evaluation exercise at Bemowo Piskie Training Area in November last year. The 2nd Cavalry is a vital part of the enhanced forward presence Battle Group’s mission to defend against any potential threat in the region.
POTD: Memorial – Heckler & Koch HK416 in France
I have lived a few years in France, but unfortunately, my French is too weak (without red wine) to make professional translations. My understanding is that this is a memorial from the First World War and that the soldiers are paying their respects to the people and soldiers who did not make it. They have not forgotten.
POTD: The Heckler & Koch SP5
Photo Of The Day – The word photograph is a combination of Greek words and means “drawing with light”. The word was invented by Sir John Herschel, over 180 years ago. When I think of “drawing with light” I’m more thinking of myself with a Minigun, shooting tracers into the darkness of a desert. Or why not with HK’s SP5?

The U.S. Marines ran in 12-man squads over roughly five miles of Okinawa jungle and through 30 obstacles in JWTC’s culminating event, which helps to build upon what the Marines learned through the previous week of jungle warfare training.
