POTD: Australian X3F1 Submachine Gun
X3F1 Sub-machine Gun. Tubular construction with a drilled barrel jacket and a top magazine slot. The trigger box is marked on the right side MACHINE CARBINE 9MM (AUST) X3 and the serial number. A safety catch and the cocking lever are on the left side. It has a wooden butt with an alloy shoulder plate incorporating a trap for an oil bottle and pull through cord. The sights are a fixed front post on the magazine slot and a folding rear peep. Sling swivels are attached to the top of the butt and the muzzle. A bayonet lug is welded to the right side of the barrel jacket. Overall metal parts are blued. A yellow band is painted on the barrel jacket and on the butt wrist with DP. Complete with a detachable curved magazine.
POTD: Exercise Black Boar – H&K G36 with Blanks
TFB’s Photo Of The Day is where you can discover the World of firearms through a camera lens. Every day we run a new theme, selected pictures, a short story and credit to the person behind the lens. Today we take a look at the German exercise Black Boar where the rangers of the 1st company of the support battalion conducted a combat shooting with practice ammunition, using blanks. Particular attention was paid to the execution of the activities of the individual shooter. This includes, for example, preparing a shooting position correctly before moving into it, correctly passing on the reports and the correct behavior and action in the event of enemy fire.

POTD: Howa Type 89s in Samurai Readiness Inspection in Japan
Photo Of The Day: For some reason, it’s always difficult to get clean pictures of Japanese infantry firearms, but here’s a welcome exception. Here we have Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force soldiers assigned to the 34th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division. They’re engaging in a firefight during a guard and protect exercise in Samurai Readiness Inspection at Yokota Air Base, Japan, 2021.

Photo Of The Day: Last week Springfield Armory announced their new SA-35, but we missed one great picture – the one above! This is Springfield Armory’s version of the Browning P-35, also known as the Hi-Power. It features improved ergonomics with a remade hammer, extended safety and modern sights. It also comes reasonably priced with an MSRP of $699.

POTD: The M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle in Jordan
Going over the top with the U.S. Marines. In our Photo Of The Day, the show is performed by USMC Marines as they conduct fire and maneuver training on a fire team assault range in Jordan. They’re armed with the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle made by Heckler & Koch, and it looks like a hot, dry day in the desert.

Photo Of The Day: Picking up or getting a delivery of a new firearm is always exciting. Here we witness the Hochgebirgs-Jägerbataillon 23 in Austria as they get their new Barrett M82A1 rifles in .50 BMG. This rifle is also used by the Austrian Army SF Jagdkommando.

Over the years TFB’s POTD have gathered thousands of interesting images from around the world. In today’s Photo Of The Day, we’re going to look at a legendary Suomi M32 9mm submachine gun that had a vital role in Finland’s fighting against the Soviet Union.
POTD: Austeyr F88 Line Thrower in Royal Australian Navy
TFB’s Photo Of The Day and we’re looking at Seaman Boatswains Mate Hayden Sleath as he fires the line thrower projectile from HMAS Anzac to HMAS Sirius, during a replenishment at sea. The rifle used is an Austeyr F88 and the photographer managed to catch the projectile just at it leaves the ship.
POTD: Alpha Company – Battalion Landing Team on USS Portland
Each day a different image from the World of firearms. We call this POTD, short for Photo Of The Day, and it is our daily article series where we go to great lengths trying to find the most interesting pictures for you out there. Right above we have Marine Corps Lance Cpl. David Wells, a rifleman assigned to Alpha Company, Battalion Landing Team 1/1, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as he posts security on the flight deck during an interior and exterior clearing exercise. The team is aboard the amphibious transport dock USS Portland (LPD 27) earlier this month.

Here we have Australian Army soldiers together with U.S. Marines with the Marine Rotational Force – Darwin as they dismount an MV-22B Osprey during Exercise Koolendong at Bradshaw Field Training Area, NT, Australia. This happened at the end of August of this year.
POTD: French Airborne .50 BMG Power – Hecate 2 Long-Range Rifle
Photo Of The Day: Airborne sniping is a special thing and probably one of the most difficult tasks for any target shooter. Here we’re looking at the power of the 12.7x99mm round (.50 BMG) in the Hécate 2 Long-range anti-material rifle made by PGM Precision in France. Note the rather large suppressor and the arm that supports the rifle.
POTD: East Meets West in Saber Junction 2021
The first online photograph is said to have been published by Tim Berners-Lee in 1992. It’s uncertain how many were actually able to see that image at the time, but probably not a lot. Luckily TFB’s Photo Of The Day is a lot more popular and anyone with an Internet connection is welcome to visit. Here we do our best to focus on interesting high-quality images with a focus on firearms of all sorts.
POTD: U.S. Army Paratroopers with M3 Carl Gustaf Rocket Launcher
Photo Of The Day with a loud bang as U.S. Army Paratroopers assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, fire an M3 Carl Gustaf rocket launcher. This happened during exercise Rock Klescman 21 at Pocek Range in Slovenia, in September 2021. Exercise Rock Klescman was a bilateral training exercise with the Slovenian Armed Forces focused on the rapid deployment and assembly of forces and team cohesion with weapon systems tactics and procedures.
POTD: Norwegian Special Operations Commando in Afghanistan (2005)
POTD, short for Photo Of The Day, is TFB’s daily article series where we try to find the most interesting pictures out there. Did you know that credit for the first-ever color photograph taken goes to the mathematical physicist James Clerk Maxwell? Back in 1861, he unveiled what is to be considered the first durable color photograph.
POTD: His Majesty The King's Guard with HK416N
Photo Of The Day: Soldier from His Majesty The King’s Guard standing in front of the Storting, the Norwegian Parlament, during the opening of the 166:th Storting. They are carrying the Heckler & Koch HK416N with Aimpoint sights, made for Norway. It seems they are using a shorter magazine than the regular army, and it looks like the outside of the barrel most likely got more cleaning than the inside.
POTD: The FN SCAR-H PR has arrived in France
The French Army has been on a shopping spree including firearms from Glock, Heckler & Koch and FN Herstal. For their Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle, the choice landed on the FN SCAR-H PR and included 2,600 rifles equipped with high-end rifle scopes from Schmidt & Bender with clip-on night sights. If you want to learn more about the riflescope check out our review: The 1-8×24 PM II ShortDot Dual CC – from Schmidt & Bender, partly made on a very similar setup that the French Army is going to use.
POTD: I Spy – Exercise Archipelago Endeavor with U.S. Marines
I Spy – Another edition of TFB’s Photo Of The Day: Join the U.S. Marines and see the World, in this case the Archipelago around Stockholm, Sweden. Or stay at home, in front of the safety of your keyboard and screen and take a look at these pictures. Today we have U.S. Marines with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, providing security during Exercise Archipelago Endeavor on Berga Naval Base, Sweden. This happened in September 2021.
POTD: The M45A1 Pistol Onboard USS Pearl Harbor
Photo Of The Day: A good day at sea, when you look 100% relaxed, catching some sunshine and performing a one-handed shot and the photographer captures the bullet mid-air. The recoil is just about to kick in. The location is the Northern Arabian Gulf and we have Reconnaissance Marines assigned to the All Domain Reconnaissance Detachment (ADRD), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). They’re firing their M45A1 pistols during a gun shoot aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52).
POTD: Austrian Special Forces Sniper with HK417P and ZC527
In 2019 TFB were the first to discover the new Heckler & Koch HK417P model. To the best of our knowledge, this is the rifle we’re looking at in the front row. The HK417P was made for Austria and is a combination of the HK417 assault rifle and G28 precision rifle. It is a semi-automatic only rifle.
POTD: German Sniper with Remington Mk 21 Precision Sniper Rifle
Photo Of The Day: Right above is a German soldier engaging long-range targets in the middle of the night. He’s using a Remington Mk 21 Precision Sniper Rifle at the International Specialty Training Center (ISTC) Alpine Sniper Course, in Hochfilzen training area, Austria. The Alpine Sniper Course went on for two weeks and was designed to teach and train sniper teams the necessary skills to operate in mountainous terrain.
