POTD: Sako 85 Carbon Light
TFB’s Photo Of The Day is where you can discover the World of firearms. Every day we run a new theme, selected pictures with a short story. The setup and the pictures in today’s POTD are from a company called LongRange. The base rifle is a Sako 85 Carbon Light which weighs only 2.4 kilograms (5.3 lbs). The barrel is a Blahut Custom in .308 Win. The riflescope is a Leica Fortis 2,5-15×56 ASV attached to a Near Picatinny mount.

Still life photography is a genre with a large gray area between fine art and documentary photography. In today’s Photo Of The Day, we’re taking a look at a piece of history with this Colt SP-1 from 1967.
POTD: CZ 75 Automatic
In today’s Photo Of The Day, we have a set of pictures published by Ceska Zbrojovka depicting one of the rarest CZ 75 pistol subspecies – the CZ 75 Automatic. As the model name implies, this is a select-fire handgun, a member of the machine pistols family of firearms that includes guns like Beretta 93R, Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer, Glock G18, APS, H&K VP70, etc.
POTD: The MAC-11 at Poulin's Antiques and Auctions
Today we have two pictures from Poulin’s Antiques and Auctions and their auction held in May of 2021. Some auctions contain a lot of objects that may not be of your highest interest, but here and there you’ll find some exceptional items like these Ingram MAC-11, Military Armament Corporation Model 11. These seem to be chambered in the 9x19mm, but .380 ACP was also available.
POTD: Heckler & Koch HK416 with Backup HK MP7
Still life photography is a genre with a large gray area between fine art and documentary photography. Add a firearm to the picture and some will frown and some will cheer. We’re pretty sure you’ve come to our Photo Of The Day to give two thumbs up for this collection. The soldier in the picture carries a Heckler & Koch HK416 and uses the MP7 from the same company as a backup. If we had a vote, I’m pretty sure this combination would win or at least place top 3 with almost any competition thinkable.
POTD: Trojan Footprint 21 – Special Forces from North Macedonia
Pictures of Special Forces from North Macedonia are not so common, but in our Photo Of The Day, we have some examples. Here they can be seen together with U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers demonstrating room-clearing tactics during the Trojan Footprint 21 exercise, held in May 2021.
POTD: Steyr AUGs and Drones at the Top of the Tux Alps
Is the summer too hot for you? What about some snow at the Tux Alps at 2500 meters above sea level, in Austria. Here temperature fluctuations of over 30 degrees and wind forces up to 100 km/h are not uncommon. Here we have some scouts with one mission: several days of undetected infiltration and observation of various reconnaissance targets in the high mountains.
POTD: GIGN – Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale
The World moves faster and faster, and the number of images produced grows even faster. But rest assured, TFB’s Photo Of The Day will keep its focus on guns and firearms. Here various Special Forces and other special units play a central role and today it’s time to say bonjour to GIGN (Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale) of France.
POTD: Accuracy International in Ejercito de Tierra
Do you love photography? Without images TFB would not be the same. TFB has been running our very special Photo Of The Day series for years, sharing great photos from around the world and the world of firearms onto the screen you’re looking at right now. Today we have various rifles from Accuracy International, including their AWM model (L-115A3 LRSR). AWM is short for Arctic Warfare Magnum, indicating the caliber is .338 Lapua Magnum. Spain also uses the AI AW in 7.62x51mm. The camouflage painting on these rifles looks quite effective for blend into the nature. Also note the front Picatinny rail, most likely there to accommodate night vision or thermal imaging devices.
POTD: Black Swan 21 Exercise
Ever since photography was invented in the early 1800s, it has been a medium of almost limitless possibilities. From the beginning, the availability was extremely limited until today where most people have at least one smartphone or camera to capture what’s going on around. Here at TFB, we’ve been running our Photo Of The Day for longer than we can (almost) remember. This is the place where we share the best photos we can find, quite often from Special Forces. Today we are taking a look at pictures from the Black Swan 21 annual multinational special operations forces exercise.
POTD: Exercise Rock Topside II
Photo Of The Day and the 173rd Airborne Brigade is back with some more images. We’re looking at platoon exercise evaluations in the Hohenfels Training Area (Germany) where The Rock and the 8e RPIMa from France spent some time together. The training was a part of Exercise Rock Topside II, taking place at the Joint Multinational Training Center in Hohenfels, Germany. Above we have a HK416F with an EOTech sight. Yellow means it’s been configured for training.
POTD: Suppressive Fire From The 173rd Airborne Brigade
Another day another Photo Of The Day: This collection comes from the 173rd Airborne Brigade where U.S. Army paratroopers assigned to Able Company, 2nd Infantry Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, can be seen laying down suppressive fire while assaulting an objective. This happened during the African Lion 21 exercise, on the Grier Labouie Airbase, Morocco, June 10, 2021.

POTD: Multiple Weapons Training in the New Zealand Army
Photo Of The Day and we’re looking at the 1st Battalion of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment Fire Support Group (FSG) who are out in the tussock sharpening their skills in Waiouru. They trained with multiple weapons, including the M107A1 Anti-Materiel Rifle, Heckler & Koch 40mm Grenade Machine Gun, FGM-148 Javelin Anti-Tank Missile and MAG-58 Sustained Fire Machine Gun.
POTD: German Special Forces with the Heckler & Koch G95
Photo Of The Day and we take a look at the German Special Forces KSK hostage rescue training in the exercise “Black Star”. If you look closely, there is quite a lot of content with the HK416 A7, which is called the G95. As a part of the national risk and crisis management, the Special Forces Command has the permanent task of keeping forces available for operations to liberate German citizens abroad.

POTD: Trident Juncture 2018
Above you see a Swedish infantryman in a firefight with his Ak5 ( FN FNC) near the Norwegian village of Drevsjo. This happened during the NATO exercise Trident Juncture, in Norway, in November 2018. Trident Juncture 2018 was NATO’s largest exercise in many years, bringing together around 50,000 personnel from all 29 allies, plus partners Finland and Sweden. Around 65 vessels, 250 aircraft and 10,000 vehicles participated.
POTD: Team France at USASOC Sniper Competition
From time to time it happens. We got a fan mail and a private contribution to our Photo Of The Day. Attached was an image taken at this year’s USASOC Sniper Competition at Fort Bragg. This competition happened a few months ago, and the image shows one of the Special Forces soldiers whom Team France sent to compete. He is running a B&T Rotex-V suppressor, as they all do on their Heckler & Koch HK416s. We love quality contributions like this.

POTD: EAA Witness Elite Gold Custom
Photo Of The Day: “This thing is ridiculously clean – EAA Witness Elite Gold Custom” ~ Triple J Armory. I’m happy to say that I own the same pistol, which is my main competition gun for IPSC Open Major. Mine looks a little different, but it’s basically the same gun with a competition frame, chrome finish, checkered front and back straps and aluminum grips.
POTD: Schuetzenschnur Badges with H&K P8 A1 and H&K G36
Photo Of The Day: Today we’re going to look at U.S. soldiers doing the German Armed Forces badge of marksmanship called Schuetzenschnur. This decoration can be awarded to German military personnel of all grades, but only enlisted members are allowed to wear the badge. Soldiers qualifying for the Schuetzenschnur have to fire both the H&K P8 A1 pistol and the H&K G36 rifle, and are eligible for bronze, silver, and gold awards based on their score in the two events.
POTD: Romanian, Ukrainian and U.S. Army Green Berets in Trojan Footprint 21 CQB
Subject: Photo Of The Day. Location: Romania (2021). What’s going on? Romanian, Ukrainian and U.S. Army Green Berets conduct close quarters battle (CQB) training during Trojan Footprint 21. Trojan Footprint is Special Operations Command Europe’s annual exercise to demonstrate proficiencies, assess the readiness and lethality of countries’ respective forces, and continue improving interoperability with allies and partners.
POTD: Russian Marines in an Amphibious Landing Operation
You’re looking at another Photo Of The Day and today we have some Russian Marines demonstrating an amphibious landing operation. In total, about 500 military personnel of the Russian Marine Corps were involved, including 10 ships, boats and vessels and more than 30 units of automobiles and other special equipment.
POTD: Ruger Precision Rifle & Blaser with Pulsar Thermal Sights
Credit for the first-ever color photograph taken goes to the mathematical physicist James Clerk Maxwell. At a lecture in 1861 he unveiled what is to be considered as the first durable color photograph. Fast forward over 150 years, and we expect nothing but high-quality color photographs like the ones we’re looking at today. I don’t know when the first thermal images and videos were produced, but the focus in our Photo Of The Day is Pulsar’s Trail 2 LRF XP50 Thermal Imaging Riflescope.
