The well-known and oft-loved KelTec CNC Industries is making its first expansion out of the Sunshine State and into the Equality State with the recent acquisition of a new 33,000-square-foot facility in Rock Springs, Wyoming. This new facility will be home to an expanded wing of KelTec CNC Industries and will operate with a proposed 250+ employees over its gradual expansion from the initial facility. The mainstream media has often been at odds with the firearms community, especially in recent years. Conversations and articles can often be found riddled with highly politicized terms like “assault rifle” and “assault weapon” which often makes anti-gun proponents feel vindicated, but often leaves pro-second amendment people feeling irked by the blanket terminology that often is used to cast a negative light on all firearms, regardless of function. The Associated Press recently released a new AP Style Top to their stylebook which now aims to drop “highly politicized terms” such as the two mentioned above in an effort to help restore the level of trust the public has for the media.

The 2022 Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) session resulted in several decisions impacting gun ownership. What exactly these cases mean and how they will impact gun regulation in America is not totally clear, but some points are fairly certain. An in-depth discussion of the nuance of these cases would be an entire book, and is far beyond the scope of one article. We will instead keep this a surface-level discussion.

On Monday 4th July, a major fire took hold at the historic home of British shooting, Bisley Ranges. The fire was spotted out in the ‘range danger area’ behind the backstop of one of the ranges. The scrub in the unused area of the ranges burned for some time with shooting matches and competitions having to be cancelled across the site.

Collegiate-level shooting sports have seemingly exploded in popularity over the last couple of years. Every year more and more young adults have decided to join shooting teams across the nation competing for top spots amongst their spheres in a competitive and 2A supporting environment. The newly formed Collegiate Shooting Sports Athletic Association (NCSSAA), has just announced a partnership with Remington which will support college sports shooters by providing greater access to Remington’s quality ammunition.

Some recent alarming news has come about from one of the country’s largest distributors of firearms, accessories, and ammunition. In a now-missing Facebook post, Brownells stated on July 1st that the United Parcel Service (UPS), had allegedly terminated their account and would no longer be accepting any of their shipments. A check of the Brownells shipping page currently only lists USPS and FedEx as available carrier options. In addition, the Florida-based Ghost Firearms were also notified that their account would be terminated for allegedly “violating applicable laws concerning the shipment of “ghost guns to unauthorized locations.” The full letter sent to Ghost Firearms has been posted below.

The last couple of years has pushed many on-the-fence people from owning zero guns to at least own one gun. Whether it’s out of a newfound enjoyment for shooting sports or for personal protection, people just seem to be wising up to the benefits of being a firearms owner. Of those new gun owners, women now make up the largest group accounting for nearly half of new gun owners over the last five years.

OEM parts supplier Unbranded AR has released a new stripped lower receiver with throwback markings. Nothing ruins a good carry handle build like a rollmark with the wrong vibes, but this one will blend right in. 

Finland and Norway already have very generous legislation and traditions for suppressors, and today Sweden joins the club. The new legislation means that suppressors should no longer be considered a firearm part and they no longer require a specific license to possess, as long as you have a permit to own the firearm onto which the suppressor fits.

A new manufacturing, assembling, and finishing facility built by Rock Island Armory USA have just opened up in Cedar City, Utah. RIA-USA and Cedar City celebrated the opening of this new facility on June 8th which already has plans in motion to further expand the location to provide more jobs and opportunities for expansion for Rock Island Armory USA.

Regular TFB readers don’t need to be reminded that using firearm suppressors to protect shooters from hearing loss is a subject that is important to me. Over the past 10+ years, there has been an evolution in the way most silencers are designed, focusing on reducing the resulting gas and noise blowback that can occur in semiautomatic operating systems. OSS Suppressors, now HUXWRX Safety Co., has lead the charge in “Flow Through” suppressor designs that vents pressure out the front and not back down the barrel or gas system towards the shooter. It is our unfortunate duty to report to you that shotgun choke tube legend George Trulock has sadly passed away after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer. Trulock Choke Tubes was founded in 1981 by George who created a novel choke installation system that could be retrofitted into most shotgun barrels without the use of an adaptor system or machining tools. In 1982, George and Trulock brought their Tru-Chokes to market and since then the system has seen widespread adoption as an OEM choke tube system by many firearms and choke tube manufacturers worldwide. Trulock announced today (June 14th, 2022) the unfortunate passing of Mr. George Trulock and we here at TFB want to pass on our condolences to his family and friends.

Australia’s Lithgow Arms have established a new research and development hub for Australian defense industry companies with a new small arms collaboration and cooperation center. C3, as the hub is called, is housed inside the Thales-operated Lithgow Arms small arms factory in New South Wales.

The new version of the FN Five-seveN handgun is now called the FN Five-seveN MRD. Just a week after FN Herstal released their completely new FN HiPer Pistol in 9×19, it’s time for a new model from FN America, this time in 5.7x28mm NATO. The new MRD comes in black or flat dark earth (FDE) colors and it’s compatible with almost any mini red dot sight.

Springfield Armory is known for a bevy of new firearms in the news as of late. They surprisingly brought to market a bullpup in the Hellion, they now are crafting bolt-action rifles with their Waypoint, and even have one of the hottest selling CCW pistols on the market with the Hellcat. Let’s not forget that they make the iconic M1A rifle as well. In fact, they recently have debuted a new Desert FDE M1A in a standard and Scout Squad configuration as an NBS-exclusive offering.

According to a communication from Heckler & Koch Germany, the company has entered an “extensive cooperation in the areas of development and sales” together with the Norwegian specialist in suppressors A-TEC. Heckler & Koch may not need another introduction on TFB, but for those who don’t know A-TEC, they are a Norwegian manufacturer of suppressors for hunters, sport shooters as well as law enforcement and military customers.

A mandatory safety recall was issued on April 19th, 2022 by Apex Tactical Specialties regarding a limited amount of their Apex Action Enhancement Kits for slim frame Glock pistols like the Glock 43, Glock 43X, and the Glock 48. The issue with these flawed trigger kits is that some of the trigger bars (which are manufactured by Apex and not Glock) are out of spec and can cause a failure to reset the trigger after firing. Apex is asking that customers who have purchased an Apex Action Enhancement Kit for their Glock pistol between October 2021 and March 2022 immediately cease using their trigger kit and visit ApexTactical.com to arrange for an immediate replacement at no cost to the customer. With air travel slowly returning to normal and the spring and summer season spurring on increased travel across the United States, I thought it might be fitting to give you all a reminder of what is at stake every time you head to the TSA checkpoint at your departing airport. A recent news story posted by Idaho Fall’s Local News 8 (KIF) reported that a passenger traveling from Idaho Falls to Salt Lake City, UT had a Glock 43X in their carry-on luggage which prompted TSA to contact airport law enforcement who then questioned the traveler and then let them continue to their destination. This marks the second time this year that the relatively small airport has found a firearm in a passenger’s carry-on bag while they were attempting to get through the TSA checkpoint.

There is always a lot of debate in the gun world in regards to background checks being conducted with gun legislation pundits on both sides constantly arguing over whether or not the current system actually works or not. A recent article put out by the Associated Press notes that a new record-breaking 300,000 potential guns sales were blocked by FBI background checks during 2020 which was apparently double the number of denials from the previous year.

NFT (Non-Fungible Token) trading is only the latest craze in the investment and trading world. Zev Technologies and Digital Arms have partnered up to develop the first IP Licensed Pistol NFT which when applied to the gaming industry will give purchasers a unique limited edition digital firearm which they will be able to use and show off inside of games like first-person-shooters as well as other digital platforms. Primary Weapons Systems is well known in the firearms industry as a quality rifle component company and has grown rapidly since its formation in 2008. One of the largest firearms manufacturers in the Northwest United States, PWS quickly grew from making accessories like compensators and other muzzle accessories to manufacturing venerated products like their PWS Long-Stroke Piston System. As of March 21, 2022, Primary Weapons Systems has been acquired by the Georgia-based company Vigilant Gear Holdings and joins a family of companies that now include Lone Wolf Distributors and Lone Wolf Arms.

I hate to bring up a sore subject for most of us but last year (2021) was a pretty rough one for firearms owners. When it came to finding ammunition, you were either stuck with depleting your hard-earned reserves, purchasing overpriced ammunition, or just not shooting at all. Despite this, the ammunition industry tried its best to keep up with demand, and apparently, CCI Blazer was the most frequently purchased handgun ammunition for last year according to a survey compiled by Southwick Associates and their “ Hunting & Shooting Participation and Equipment Purchase Consumer Tracking Study“.
