Federal and Speer Ammunition Awarded FBI Contracts

Federal Ammunition has announced that the FBI has awarded them and Speer Ammunition in all four categories of its handgun ammunition bid – Service (Full Size), Service (Micro), Reduced-Lead Training, and Frangible. Three of these types of ammunition are manufactured in the Anoka, Minnesota facility. The other rounds will be made in Lewiston, Idaho.

US Navy Intercepts 1,400 Rifles in Arabian Sea

On December 22, the US Navy reported that two days earlier it had intercepted a fishing vessel attempting to smuggle weapons through the Arabian Sea. On board, Coast Guard and Navy personnel found 226,600 rounds of ammunition and 1,400 AK-pattern assault rifles. While the vessel was stateless, the five men comprising the crew identified themselves as Yemeni. According to an  official Navy press release:

Czech Republic Acquires FN Minimi Light Machine Guns

The Czech Ministry of Defense has announced on 12/21/2021 that it will be purchasing 949 FN Herstal manufactured Minimi Light machine guns in a CZK1.12 Billion ($50.73 Million) deal with the Czech company, CB Servis Centrum SRO. This deal also includes optics, armor kits, and travel cases. The purchase includes both the 5.56x45mm chambered Minimi light machine gun, as well as the 7.62x51mm chambered Maximi light machine gun.

Rising Material Costs Induce Vista Outdoors Ammunition Price Increases

In a bit of disappointing news towards the end of this year, shooters can expect another set of rising ammunition and reloading component costs. Announced via a press release by Vista Outdoors, the umbrella of ammunition brands that the company has within its profile will see a set of ammunition and reloading component price increases in order to offset the rising cost of materials. Furthermore, Vista Outdoors announced that no new primer orders will be accepted until further notice due to such high demand.

Griffin Armament Sued Over SR-RIGID Rail Series By Patriot Ordnance Factory

In a recent legal action against Griffin Armament (Hearing Protection LLC), Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) has asserted that the Griffin Armament SR-RIGID barrel nut design infringes on POF’s  heat sink barrel nut patent which has similar design characteristics to the 1928 Thompson Machine gun barrel. In a press release provided to us by Griffin Armament, the company explains that they feel that the litigation against them is meritless and also unfairly reduces free-market competition. Palmetto State Armory Parent Company JJE to Acquire Nodak Spud

On 12/16/2021, Palmetto State Armory Announced in its Industry Forum on AR15.com that its parent company JJE will acquire Nodak Spud LLC and make it a subsidiary of Harrington & Richardson. H&R is a well-known name in the firearms industry not only for its revolvers and sporting arms but also for being the largest contractor for M14 rifles and one of only four contractors for the M16A1 during the Vietnam war.

Nearly 700,000 Background Checks Run During Black Friday 'Week'

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry’s trade association, has revealed FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) data indicating that NICS processed 687,788 background checks during the week leading up to and including Black Friday. FBI’s NICS recorded 187,585 on Black Friday alone, ranking it among the Top 10 Highest Days for NICS checks.

Mossberg Chairman and Descendant Alan Mossberg Passes Away

It is with a heavy heart and our deepest condolences that we report that the Chairman of O.F. Mossberg & Sons Inc, Alan Mossberg has passed away on November 6th, 2021. In addition to being the Chairman of Mossberg, Alan was also the grandson of the company’s founder Oscar Mossberg. Alan Mossberg passes away at his home in Tierra Verde, FL surrounded by his close friends and family at the age of 89 years old.

Remington Firearms Invests $100M to Move from New York to Georgia

The Remington Firearms Company has seen a rollercoaster of moves, acquisitions, divesting and reorganization over the last year and it seems that the legendary firearms manufacturer isn’t done moving and shaking yet. The company announced on November 8th that it would be investing $100,000,000 into a new headquarters and research operation based out of LaGrange, Georgia, and will be hiring 856 people in the process over a 5-year timescale. Whether Remington Firearms invests in a new manufacturing line or is simply moving their HQ for tax benefits is unclear at this time.

Grief Ransomware Holds NRA Files Hostage After Alleged Cyberattack

A recent ransomware attack from a ransomware group known as “Grief” (with alleged ties to well known Russian cybercrime group Evil Corp), has stated that they hold 13 key files belonging to theNational Rifle Association that they intend to hold hostage or leak unless the NRA pays the ransom which is of an undisclosed value. At the time of writing, the NRA has declined to make any definitive statements confirming whether or not Grief had actually breached NRA cybersecurity and if the nonprofit 2nd amendment organization plans on paying any ransom.

FGC-9 Creator JStark Passes Away Following Police Raid

It is our unfortunate duty to report that the creator of the FGC-9 3D-printed gun has passed away this last week following a police raid on his home by German police. Known only as JStark, many consider him to be the father of 3D firearms printing and a hero in the 3D printing community. JStark does speak fluent English (although it has a slight accent) and this helped him communicate with 3D printers stateside to spread his ideas and files to all who were interested. His death was reported on October 9th via Der Spiegel (a German news magazine).
