The new SIG Sauer P365 Extended magazine release from Tyrant Designs is machined from high-quality aluminum and provides the user with a much larger surface area to make use of the magazine release which should translate to more consistent and faster reloads.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and new year! In this article, I decided to run down some goals I have for the year as well as some stuff that Santa was not able to check off my wishlist. It has been pretty rough up here in Minnesota as far as the weather goes so the workshop has not really been an option. Inside, warm and away from the snow and wind I thought I would jot down some general goals and things on my wishlist for 2023. Any new stuff to try out? That being said, let’s dive right into my 2023 Armorer’s Bench Wishlist/Goals!

Christensen Arms’ Flash Forged Technology has been insanely popular with its customers. Flash Foged Technology (FFT) maintains the same accuracy guarantee that other Christensen Arms rifles come with but can come in at up to a pound lighter. FFT Technology not only makes the entire rifle lighter, but it also helps support Christensen Arms’ goal of reducing its environmental impact by using a truly 100% zero-waste manufacturing technique. Now Christensen Arms is offering new FFT Upgrade Kits for their Mesa and Ridgeline rifles so that you can convert your original rifle to the ultimate lightweight hunting rifle.

Since their founding twenty years ago, Boise, Idaho-based Tactical Solutions has made a name for itself in the industry most notably as Ruger rimfire specialists, although they also make successful products for other brands, such as their .22 Long Rifle conversion kits for Glock handguns. Since TacSol’s original Pac-Lite barrels for the Ruger Mark I, Mark II, Mark III, and 22/45 from two decades ago, their product lineup has expanded to encompass a good deal of parts and accessories for the vaunted 10/22 platform as well. The options on offer include customized complete 10/22 rifles, barrels, suppressors, receivers, and more. Now they’re adding a new trigger option to the catalog for 2023. Meet the drop-in 10/22 XRT trigger.

In 2019 this author had a chance to review an AK handguard made by the Ukrainian company KPYK and was really impressed by the quality and design of that product. The company has recently announced an expansion of that AK handguard line with the addition of two new aluminum M-LOK handguards designed for the AKS-74U. Let’s take a closer look at the new KPYK Krinkov handguards.

Rounding out the trio of new NexGen AR-15 parts from Tyrant Designs is the new AR-15 NexGen Handguard. Tyrant Designs claims that the new handguard is the “most advanced and ergonomic handguard on the market today.” The new handguard like the rest of the NexGen AR-15 series of parts features rubber overmolded portions for a better grip and a removable M-LOK slot scale for out-of-the-box user customization.

Added to their rapidly growing lineup of aftermarket Gucci AR-15 parts is the new AR-15 NexGen Buttstock from Tyrant Designs CNC. The new buttstock follows a lot of the same design cues as the rest of Tyrant Designs’ other aftermarket parts and features aggressive angles, stylized highlights, and comfortable rubber molding for an aesthetically pleasing yet functional buttstock for your AR rifle.

The tried and true design of the lever-action rifle is still one that is a favorite of many shooters today for its reliability, and durability. The new meta with lever guns these days is adding various optics on top of the rifle but this was previously only possible with a handful of specific options. XS Sights has just announced their newest aftermarket sight offering with the introduction of their new Lever Rails for Henry Big Boy carbines chambered in .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum, meaning you can take these modern lever-gun offerings and pair them with modern optics.

MDT Sporting Goods have announced an upgraded and improved version of their ACC chassis called  ACC Elite, which will become the new flagship bolt action rifle chassis in the company’s catalog. The new MDT ACC Elite is a highly adjustable competition shooting chassis marketed as being an advanced fusion of design and engineering created for top-tier professional shooters.

Reptilia Corp has a strong firearms industry pedigree, with some of their personnel carrying prior brand affiliations from a number of the top names in the business, such as Magpul and Crye Precision. They produce a spectrum of weapon accessories for a variety of platforms, including AR-15s, precision rifles, and more. In particular, they are probably best known for their optics mount components and integral M-LOK weapon light bodies. TFB Armorer’s Bench started in August of 2021 so 2022 has been the first full year in its short history. 2022 has been a little more hands-on and intensive in terms of having projects to talk about so it is nice to have this break from the day-to-day and sit down at the bench and feel like progress has been made. FAB Defense have added to their line of AR-15 accessories a new adjustable stock called GL-CORE Impact. What sets the new stock apart from the rest of the GL-CORE family of stocks is the shock-absorbing feature. Unlike their GL-Shock stocks, the GL-CORE Impact has an exposed and adjustable spring of the recoil-reducing mechanism.

Ambidextrous charging handles can be extremely useful (especially for wrong-handed people). The folks over at Tyrant Designs have just unveiled their newest offering for the AR-15 market with their new NexGen charging handle. The new charging handle features a simple design that incorporates some deliberate design choices to make it an actual enhancement to your AR-15 rather than just a style choice.

XS Sights has been in the gun sight business for more than a quarter of a century, having been founded as Ashley Research & Development in 1996. They are best known for their modern semi-auto handgun night sights, including some tritium and photoluminescent options. In addition to these, they offer products for other firearm types as well, such as hunting rifles, shotguns, and more. Their product lineup has recently expanded further, now also offering two models of rear sight pusher tools for Glocks.

The long wait is over! The Strike Modular Chassis ALPHA is here from the folks over at Strike Industries. The Strike Modular Chassis (SMC) was announced way back at the beginning of this year at SHOT Show 2023 and takes your standard P320 fire control group, slide, and barrel, and converts them into a more modular package capable of accepting more attachments. Today Strike Industries is pleased to announce the release of the Strike Modular Chassis Alpha which is their standard length model to match the full-size SIG P320 and its 4.7″ slide and barrel.

In this article, I decided to take a closer look at a cool chunk that I recently installed on my AR15. I of course am talking about the Strike Industries Collar Adjustable Gas Block. Prior to working with this particular adjustable gas block, I had no hands-on experience with them. I finally had a chance to run out to the range the other day and get to know it a little more and I felt it was a good idea to share some initial thoughts and present the product as is. Let’s dive right in!

So far it’s been a fantastic year for TFB’s Photo Of The Day. Every day we deliver images of all sorts and today is no exception. We have the Strike Modular Chassis (SMC) by Strike Industries. They claim this is the most modular SIG Sauer P320 chassis in the world – designed in Southern California and tested at various California and Nevada shooting facilities. Above you see it by the components, down to the Loctite, and below what it can look like assembled.

Langdon Tactical have released a new Glock 19 grip extension called Grip Anchor. This accessory is installed into the grip cavity of G19 pistols extending the bottom rear portion of the grip which is advertised to provide a more consistent and reliable grip and better control of the gun, prevent debris from reaching the firing mechanism and prevent pinching when reloading, and help to guide the magazines into the magwell thanks to its beveled shape.

Brownells have released a couple of new flash hiders that are compatible with the Dead Air Silencers Keymount quick suppressor attachment system. The two models are a classic birdcage and three-prong flash hiders merged with the KeyMo interface. These Brownells Keymount flash hiders are compatible with the Dead Air Sandman suppressors, as well as most Keymount compatible suppressors.

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! A couple of months back we took a look at the Maddmacs Precision Tactical MK4 Carbine series of rifles designed by Competition Shooter Wade Reed. The MK4 Carbine makes use of largely the same design as the Ruger MK4 pistol by virtue of it using virtually all of the same parts, just slightly altered to make the firearm a rifle rather than a pistol. The designer of the MK4 Carbine, Mr. Wade Reed recently reached out to me asking if I would be interested in taking a closer look at one of these and trying one out for myself. I happily accepted the offer to try one out and have since then had a fair amount of range time with it including two full Steel Challenge competitions that gave me a good bit of insight into the pros and cons of this lightweight platform.

Followers are probably one of the most frequently upgraded parts on tube magazine shotguns. The main feature of most aftermarket followers is better visual and tactile identification of an empty magazine. Aridus Industries has introduced their version of a shotgun follower called SMRT Aridus Follower (SMRT-AF) which besides the mentioned feature also is designed to work reliably with magazine extensions. Let’s see if it is as smart as claimed.

Strike Industries is well known for having some of the most popular aftermarket AR-15 accessories on the market and today they’ve just announced their new AR-10 Enhanced Lower Receiver Parts Kit (less trigger, hammer, disconnector, pistol grip, and trigger guard). The parts that are omitted are likely already going to have been selected by someone who is building their own AR-10 and the new Enhanced Lower Receiver Parts Kit from Strike Industries includes some upgraded basics that someone might want to add to their build.

Stern Defense have announced the availability of their  Rapid Attach Buttstock Adapter (RAB-AD) which was introduced at TriggrCon 2022. This device is installed on the AR-15 buffer tube and lower receiver allowing to quickly detach the two parts from each other for ease of transportation and storage.

If you like the idea of the SIG Sauer P320 but can’t get on with the popular pistol’s grip profile, Brouwer LLC might just have the answer for you – a new grip module that mimics the classic 1911’s ergonomics and grip angle but allows the use of the P320’s features. The M1811 is available in both black and coyote and has an MSRP of $89.95.

The must for any M240 owner looking to lighten the load the 240 Patrol-SLR Conversion Kit from Ohio Ordnance Works has what you need. Perhaps best known for their semi-auto M1918A2 BAR and the modernized HCAR, Ohio Ordnance Works also offer a semi-automatic Browning M2 and a semi-auto M240. The new 240 Patrol-SLR Conversion Kit has a shorter, lightened barrel with a lightweight bipod and a new railed forend for accessory mounting. The barrel has been shortened down to about 14 inches and an M240 converted with the kit will weigh in at around 22.3 lbs or 10.1 kg.  The kit has an MSRP of $2,650.

Any gunsmith or armorer can be greatly helped by literature. Yes, I realize books are a boring topic but it is one of the most useful things in my toolkit. This job is one where you can learn something new every day and the answers to questions you may have are not always on the internet. Let’s dive right into what exactly is in my personal gunsmithing library!

Ranger Point Precision (RPP) was one of the first companies that started making modernization products for lever action rifles and Chris Costa of Costa Ludus was one of the first instructors who developed tactical lever gun training courses. The two companies have now teamed up to introduce the new Costa Collection of modern lever gun accessories with the first product in the line being the RPP Costa Ludus M-LOK Handguard & Modular Rail System for Henry rifles.

Shortly after the release of their HK MP5 trigger, Timney Triggers announced yet another expansion of their extensive product line by introducing the Impact Shotgun (Impact SG) trigger which is designed for AR-style semi-auto shotguns. Describing the design of this new trigger, Timney points out that “all trigger parts have been engineered for excellence and are precision machined from premium materials to guarantee a lifetime of dependable service”.
