The US Air Force Gunsmith Shop, part of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Armament Directorate, at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas recently completed delivery of the new GAU-5A survival rifle for aircrews. TFBB first reported that the USAF had developed a new survival rifle for pilots and aircrews forced to eject over hostile territory back in June 2018. We got our first proper look at the new rifle in May 2019, when the new Aircrew Self Defense Weapons (ASDW) was seen in the hands of F-22 Raptor pilots at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.

Seekins Precision has announced a new family of AR-15 pattern firearms called SP15. This is a more budget-friendly line of Seekins guns which currently consists of a rifle (SP15), pistol (SP15 P), and another rifle more suitable for long range shooting (SP15 DMR).

It is a surreal state of affairs we all live in today. Although we do all face some similar very challenging circumstances, I think we need to break our planning down to what is optimal for the job at hand. As for my SHTF weapon I needed a weapon that was concealable and easily carried. I live in an urban environment without the option of bugging out. Grocery stores are still open and at some point, I will probably have to go there. My place of employment remains open and I am expected to show up.

Time for the collectors and H&K aficionados to wake up. Heckler & Koch USA has (or had by the time you read this) a super rare handguard available for the H&K MR762A1. Previously the handguard was only available as part of a complete HKMR762A1 Long Rifle Package purchase, but the 14.7″ FDE HKey rail is now available in extremely limited quantities.

I don’t get pumped up about many new releases anymore, but when I received the shipping notification for the SIG Sauer 716i TREAD AR-10 rifle last night, I may have gotten a little giddy. You see, I’ve never owned a .308 AR-10, so if SIG’s 716i TREAD lives up to its listed specifications, quality and accuracy, I’ll be putting my money down on the table. We’ve reviewed several of the TREAD “budget” AR-15 rifles and pistols over the years, most recently Hop (TFBTV) and Rusty (TFB) have put the shorter models through their paces. But this is SIG’s first entry into the .308 DI TREAD lineup. I’ll get a review posted up ASAP. You know how it goes, you’ve seen a few AR-15 builds, you’ve pretty much seen them all… until today!  We truly do live in strange times, when someone can build an AR-15 made to accept AK patterned magazines made to hold 6.5 Grendel cartridges, with the added feature of a side charging handle on the left side like the FN FAL. This particular AR-15 build was completed by Redditor Glenn but inspired by AP Smizzler’s thread on the 65Grendel.com forum.

With the recent release of the US Army’s FY2020 Budget Justification Books, we’ve seen some more exciting developments like procurement projection figures for the Next Generation Squad Weapon and the desire to replace the M2010 sniper rifle with the Precision Sniper Rifle. But the US Army’s ongoing M4 carbine modernisation program is just as important as these other programs, as it forms part of the Army’s ‘Army Modernization’ initiative which aims to ‘Build a More Lethal Force through enhancement of Joint Lethality’.

As the German Army is taking the next step towards a new assault rifle, they are also looking for a semi-automatic precision rifle in 7.62x51mm. The Federal Office responsible for the Bundeswehr equipment procurement ( BAAINBw) has published a tender titled: “Scharfschützenwaffe kurze Reichweite (SSchtzWa kRw) G26”

CMMG continues on the 5.7×28 revival path.  Last year, we reviewed CMMG’s FiveSeven magazine compatible 5.7×28 Banshee.  Further reinforcing the 5.7×28 revival is CMMG’s new Mk57 Upper Conversion kit for standard AR lowers.  Of most import is the fact that CMMG developed a 40 round 5.7×28 magazine to ship with the Mk57 that fits into one’s AR15 lower without any modification.

Hot on the heels of the introduction of their LAR-15Ms chambered in .350 Legend, Rock River Arms have announced another addition to their multi-calibre LAR-15M range, with a new hunting AR, chambered in .450 Bushmaster – describing it as a ‘Modern Straight Wall Hunting Rifle’.

Late in 2017 CMC Triggers (Yes, in Texas) released drop-in barrels for the Glock pistols. It is now time for CMC to introduce barrels for the AR15 platform. The CMC barrels are available in 7.5″, 10.5″ and 16.25″ and in .223 Wylde. In case you didn’t know, .223 Wylde is a chamber in which you can use both .223 Rem. and 5.56 NATO ammo.

SIG Sauer have announced that Vermont State Police will be adopting their new M400 Pro rifles as their official patrol rifle. With over 300 troopers the new rifles will become standard equipment for Vermont State Police cruisers. The rifles have 16” nitride barrels and an overall weight of 6.5 lb. The selection follows another recent SIG Sauer law enforcement contract with  Nevada Highway Patrol selecting the SIG Sauer P320.

Angstadt Arms is excited about its March 2020 release of the UDP-9 Pistol in a new WeaponWorks “Bottomlands” Cerkote Finish. The UDP-9 is a Glock magazine compatible blowback-operated PDW/AR-9 pistol that is made from a billet aluminum lower and upper. The Pistol is designed to be a compact, light and easy to maneuver personal defense weapon suited for situations where space is the chief concern.

Illinois-based Rock River Arms have introduced a pair of new ARs chambered in .350 Legend. The carbines are aimed at the modern hunting rifle market and come with a free floated M-LOK handguard, low profile gas block and a Rock River two-stage trigger.

Last year, I wrote an article about what handgun I would choose if I could only own one handgun and had to get rid of everything else. Typically, this will be a conversation I have with like-minded shooters at dinner and then we will debate the rest of dinner about our choices. Deciding on a rifle was a bit tougher for me than the handgun just because there are so many options depending on your needs. Let’s dive into the one rifle I’d want if I could only have one for the rest of my life.

Good afternoon suppressor fans and welcome back to another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday. Last week we dug into the Dead Air Nomad L, a very quiet can if you don’t mind a bit of extra length. On the other end of the yard stick (meter stick if you are a metric system junkie) is the brand new YHM Resonator K .30 caliber suppressor. Spoiler alert, for the money, there is probably no better option for a compact 7.62 that still performs well as a 7.62mm suppressor.

As the sun began to set in the southern Nevada desert, Industry Day at the Range came to a close. The targets were taken down, the firearms stowed and the products started making their way to the SHOT Show floor. Most would call it in, go grab a bite to eat and maybe hit the casino floor after a long day of walking, talking and shooting but the TFB writers. For us, as the sun was setting on Industry Day at the Range, the TFB “Do it In the Dark” machine gun shoot was just about to begin.

Rock River Arms have announced a new edition to their BT-9 Pistol range, a model with a short 4.5-inch barrel. The new 4.5-inch BT-9 pistol has an SB Tactical SBA3 adjustable stabilizing arm brace and feeds from GLOCK pattern magazines. It joins Rock River Arms’ other 7 and 10.5-inch barrel BT-9 pistol offerings which began shipping last April.

Springfield Armory have announced the launch of three brand new AR pistols, in 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm. The SAINT pistol family is expanding to include the SAINT Edge EVAC, Edge PDW and Victor .308.
