Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we took a look at some of my most used carry guns and why I carry each. This week, I want to take a closer look at some things most conceal carriers don’t even think about and the various items you should look at when it comes to carry gun maintenance. Things happen and it’s important to keep in mind some parts to look at when you decide to carry a gun daily. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most overlooked problems with carry guns.

Hornady’s new 2024 releases are not limited to cartridges, bullets, and ammunition. There are also new additions to the range of gun storage options. The Mobilis series of safes are modular and available in various sizes. Also new is a range of welded gun cabinets in varying sizes.

Throughout the year, I will take friends out to shoot for the first time. I will often give them 3-4 hours of instruction at a time and will typically do this 5-6 times before I say they have enough base knowledge to continue on their own. I love introducing new people into the gun community, but whenever I do this, the first question from these new shooters is what they need to get to practice on their own.  Not everything on this list is essential by any means but there are a few things that helped me progress as a shooter and help track my progress. Starting out, using simple targets like paper plates taped to a piece of wood is good enough. Most things can be practiced with dry firing as well but let’s take a look at the top range essentials for training on your own.

If you happened to miss last week’s article, be sure to click the link here to catch up. This week, I wanted to start looking at some good hunting carry gun options. This can range widely depending on where you are and there are certainly examples where hunters needed a handgun for protection. Let’s take a closer look at options to carry for hunting.

Pulsar have a long history with Thermal Imaging Binoculars, with models like the Accolade and the Merger – all reviewed by TFB of course. It’s now time for a more compact Merger, called the Merger LRF XQ35, which has a lot of features to become a perfect companion for hunters and rescue workers. The new, compact Merger uses a European-made thermal sensor, with 384×288 pixels @ 17 µm and a sensitivity of < 25 mK NETD. Apart from the thermal capability, there is also an integrated Laser Range Finder which is said to reach out to 1 kilometer.

Occluded shooting is a method of target acquisition practiced mostly among sport shooters, but was developed much earlier for the same purpose – rapid target acquisition while maintaining target-focused rather than dot or sight-focused. A big problem that a lot of shooters, even seasoned ones have when switching from shooting irons to red dots is that it is all too easy to get sucked into the dot and become entirely focused on that rather than on your target. This is where occluded shooting comes in and why Strike Industries has bothered to give you an option rather than tape to slap onto your red dot to practice – the Strike Optic Cover for the Holosun 407/507 and Trijicon SRO.

For people who truly nerd out at the range making handloads and chronicling data via a chronograph, we have exciting news by the way of Garmin with their latest product announcement. The new Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronograph couples modern technologies and is impressive in what it can accomplish for you. Even registering suppressed fire and odd muzzle devices for an assortment of firearms.

C&H Precision Weapons has a new line of modular ring mounts for attaching red dots to scope tubes. Rather than place the secondary optic on top of the scope ring, C&H placed it on a ring so it could be placed anywhere on the main tube. This also allows it to sit at any angle.

The National Association for Gun Rights won a major victory in their case defending forced reset triggers (FRTs). A district court in Texas just granted a preliminary injunction against the ATF that prevents them from treating FRTs as machine guns. However, this is not the end of the forced reset trigger fight.

This week, I wanted to look at some new items hitting the market and a fundamental shift in the gun community from what used to be normal 5-10 years ago. Small carry bags are becoming more popular among younger people and female shooters for ease of carry and simplicity. Not everyone agrees with carrying off body which is valid, but for those of you who do, there isn’t a ton of information out there. Let’s take a closer look at tactical or practical carry bags.

A new shotgun magazine extension may not sound like something newsworthy, however, Briley Manufacturing’s new HONEYCOMB extensions have a rather unusual design – they are skeletonized! Now, of course, dirt and debris will easily find their way into a magazine equipped with a skeletonized extension and cause malfunctions but I assume Briley HONEYCOMB extensions are made for competition shooting which is normally done in a more controlled environment compared to hunting or defensive and tactical use? I don’t know … sound off in the comments section.

The Riflespeed Gas Control system is a quick and easy way to get your rifle up and running in a variety of situations when it just isn’t running right. The main advantage of the Riflespeed Gas Control system is that you can have a much longer handguard in a lot of cases since the system can be adjusted without tools, just using your hand. The Riflspeed system is being updated with a new Quick Lever Kit which allows the user to more easily adjust the gas controls, even if the handguard completely covers the controls.

Caldwell produces a wide range of shooting gear. From targets to rests to chronographs, they are a brand found in most sporting goods stores. One of their key product areas is shooting rests and sandbags. They also make the Precision Turret Rest, which is a hybrid between a machine gun tripod and a clamp-type rest typically used on tall tripods. I bought one to see how it works and thought that would be worth sharing with you all.

Apart from their firearms, Uronen Precision from Finland has a lot of interesting products, like their Modular Trigger Group for AR-15, 7.62 TKO caliber and Lugo Arms Alien pistol compensator.

At the beginning of the year, Magpul announced their DAKA Rifle Case R44. I was already impressed with their DAKA Grid Organizer for Pelican Cases but I am a Magpul fan so I had to have the R44 Rifle Case. So when it came out in July, I immediately ordered one online. I have used it for the range and on a recent hunting trip which required checking it in on an airplane. So here is my review of the R44.

The Battle of Mogadishu, also known as the Black Hawk Down incident, is a pivotal event in modern military history that took place in Somalia on October 3-4, 1993.  This battle, part of Operation Gothic Serpent, was a mission aimed at capturing key lieutenants of Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. Django Unchained is one of my favorite movies of all time ever since I saw it back in 2012.
