Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 67! October is 3/4 of the way over and fall is in full swing up here in the Pacific Northwest. While this means less time to shoot during the daylight hours, this does mean that it’s almost that time of year when getting out to shoot with night vision on is becoming much less of a hassle. However, as we talked about last week, it looks like there has been another bum rush on 5.56/.223 ammunition which has led to most of the more affordable training ammunition drying up. As of writing, the average price for any type of 5.56 or .223 ammunition seems to be sitting at about 20-25 cents more per round than just a week ago. Most of what is left on sites like Palmetto State Armory, Primary Arms, Natchez Shooters Supply, and other online retailers, is mostly heaver grain match ammunition or 62-grain green tip (M855). My go-to pistol ammunition for this year AAC 124gr 9mm, is no longer in stock in individual boxes but can be purchased as a package deal with a Plano Ammunition can for about $0.30 per round meaning 9mm pricing hasn’t been affected quite as much as 5.56 ammunition. I’ll post the few deals like that that I’ve found but for this week, I think we’ll mostly be able to find deals on other things besides ammunition – here’s hoping that changes soon! In any case, if you’re not buying your regular order of ammo, why not just buy more magazines!

Hello and welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 66. Once again it appears that a small ammunition shortage will be coming. This new panic comes on the heels of the announcement that the Lake City Ammunition plant would be canceling all of its current commercial contracts which supply something like 30% of the civilian market’s 5.56 ammunition. While the plant is operated by Olin Winchester, it is owned by the US Government which means that to no one’s surprise, the US Government gets first crack at ammo production, and anything beyond that gets thrown to the commercial market. Multiple gun stores have already reported a great increase in the amount of “bulk buying” that customers are doing in anticipation of this new shortage. If you feel strapped for 5.56, or just want to pick up a few boxes as usual, this week’s deals will all be primarily 5.56 and .223 ammunition.

While it can be relatively inexpensive to shoot something like 22LR (about a dime per shot), 9mm (a quarter) and 5.56 (fifty cents) are still pretty expensive when fired in high volumes for competition or purposeful training. So this week we’re gathering up some ammunition-related deals in addition to our regular deals in the hopes you can restock some of your dwindling supply, or add to your growing stockpile for a rainy day.

There are a lot of hot releases to come later this summer which usually means that the current latest offerings of firearms, and optics will probably start to get deeply discounted as these newer options start hitting the online market. If you want evidence of that, just look at what happened to the price of the Trijicon SRO right before the Holosun 507COMP came out! While it’s not the latest and greatest (and I’m already starting to think that my 507COMP will permanently replace my SRO), the SRO is still a fine offering if you can get one on a deal and I do still think it’s leagues ahead of any other wide window red dot offering on the market in terms of raw durability. I’ve recently come across a bunch of new rifles and handguns that I’ll be cycling through over the next couple of months and this has got me shopping for a bunch of new components, optics, ammunition, and other gear that I’m going to need to get the reviews done properly. Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 49! COVID hit the firearms industry pretty hard but I think the most frustrating part about all of the shortages for me personally was the quick disappearance of primers and other reloading components. It didn’t take long into 2020 for me to quickly burn through nearly my entire inventory of reloading components and then I was left hunting at various local gun shows for overpriced trays of pistol primers. Long story short, I eventually gave up because it was much easier and far less expensive just to buy bulk ammo when I could find it. Fast forward to today and I’m now starting to notice a handful of primers show up and actually stay in stock. They’re wildly overpriced compared to the prices we paid even just a few short years ago, but at least they’re available again. Today is mostly a reloading-focused roundup so hopefully you guys can find something below that’ll help you fire that rusty reloading press back up.

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 48. As my firearms inventory has grown, so too have my purchasing behaviors. When my collection was relatively small and I had very little to work with in terms of cash, I often gravitated towards buying things that could serve multiple purposes within my inventory. This is why things like QD Picatinny mounts, and simple attachment systems like M-LOK or even KeyMod are so popular – you can take your gear off one gun and slap it on another. However, now I find myself wanting to just have my gun set up and not have to mess with it anymore. Now each gun not only comes along with the price tag of the firearm itself, but now I usually factor in the cost of any optics, lights, reloading dies, slings, and other accessories that I might want to use for that gun specifically. This is mostly so I don’t have to keep re-zeroing optics, and re-attaching bipods and suppressors, but I also think there is something quite rewarding about having a truly “finished” build that you never really have to mess with. Anyway, deals like the ones I’ve found today usually help offset some of the pain of purchasing all this stuff and hopefully, you can make some use of it too, no matter how you like to kit out your guns.

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 47! Primary Arms has been a huge supporter of both the blog and the TFBTV YouTube channel for quite some time. I’ve been using Primary Arms to buy gun parts, ammunition, and even whole firearms long before then, so I know they’ve always got great deals on not only the sale and clearance items you’ll see today but also regularly scheduled sales that pop up for only 24 hours. Another great online retailer that I often frequent now for bulk ammunition is Palmetto State Armory. PSA’s new AAC Ammunition brand features some pretty nice 9mm handgun ammunition that I’ve been having great success with that doesn’t break the bank. Specifically their 124-grain FMJ 9mm ammunition. I’ve yet to try any of AAC’s other types of ammunition but I have a couple boxes of different flavors on order already and you can be sure I’ll be writing up reviews for all of these ammunition types. I hope everyone had a nice pleasant Easter weekend and were not only able to get the family out for some nice outdoor activities but were also able to get in some trigger time. One of the coolest fun and most relaxed shooting sports I’ve come across in the last couple of years has been Egg Shoots. An Egg Shoot will vary depending on the local club or match director but the basic premise is simple – Grab a bunch of 22LR rifles and some eggs and start blasting them for points during a timed relay. While the activity still sometimes uses real eggs, with the number of shooters that show up to these events it’s more common these days to see steel or paper targets used instead to reduce both cost and waste. If you want to try out one of these activities but are afraid you won’t be able to find one after Easter, you’re in luck – Egg Shoots are conducted year-round at a lot of different shooting clubs. However, before you head out to play, you might want to stock up on a few supplies for the event. We’ll feature some of those today in TFB Weekly Web Deals 46!
