Federal Premium Bolsters American Eagle Rifle Ammunition Offerings

Federal Premium is always looking for new categories, calibers or cartridges to provide shooters with more ammunition. Not every new introduction has to be a reinvention of the wheel though. Sometimes just keeping up with what’s hot can be a difficult enough task by itself. What’s hot right now is absolutely 6.5 Creedmoor, the darling caliber for long-range shooters; .224 Valkyrie, which has screamed onto the scene as fast as the cartridge itself; and .223 Remington which may never fall out of favor because of the popularity of modern sporting rifles. All of these calibers are given some love through the American Eagle line-up of ammo with some new grain weight offerings.

ITAR UPDATE – Proposed Rule Change May Help FFLs

Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) are required to jump through various hoops to be able to sell guns as a business. From zoning laws, to insurance to National Firearms Act (NFA) payments, and to detailed record keeping, license holders need to be in compliance or risk losing their ability to transfer firearms. Going a step further, manufacturers of small arms have an additional set of rules to follow and records to keep. Not in the least being the International Traffic Of Arms Regulations (ITAR), a program meant to keep weapons from being illegally exported into the hands of enemies of the United States.

GLOCK's Other Businesses: Firewood, Wood Gasifiers, Dietary Supplements and Horse Performance Center

In this article of The Firearm Blog, you won’t see any firearms. The only connection of the subject to the firearm world is that we are going to take a look at other ventures of one of the world’s largest pistol manufacturers – Glock. While browsing the European version of Glock website, I discovered that there is a section telling about other Glock businesses. I think it would be interesting for our readers to learn about what else besides firearms bears the famous logo. The names of the Glock companies listed below link to their websites where you can learn more about them.

Federal Premium Becomes Official Shotshell Ammunition Sponsor of USA Shooting

Any firearms content that can be promoted showcasing shooting sports in the Olympics is a positive for the industry in general.  Federal is using some of it’s resources to bring attention by sponsoring USA Shooting for supplying US athletes.  Other ammunition companies have done other awareness campaigns like Winchester (who, interestingly, had been a previous sponsor of the topic of this press release).

SILENCER SATURDAY #15: Putting Money In The Meter

It’s common for suppressor manufacturers, distributors and dealers to include dB reduction numbers along with their sales and marketing information. It is less common, however, that companies include environmental variables alongside their metering results. Because of the wide variety of techniques used to test suppressors, I personally don’t put a lot of weight on dB reduction numbers for a silencer purchasing decision – it’s really just one variable to consider. Although, because the American NFA laws are so cumbersome, purchasing decisions by most buyers is usually ‘sight-unseen’, let alone any type of first hand shooting experience.

CALI COMPLIANT: Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter AR15 Mod Kit

I am sure the good folks over at Juggernaut Tactical will agree with the classic Steve Jobs quote: “Design is not just how it looks and feels like. Design is how it works” when it comes to functionality.  But luckily they also didn’t lose sight of visual appeal when it comes to the Juggernaut Tactical HellFighter CA Mod Kit. For those of you behind enemy lines who love their “evil” rifle features and are looking for a magazine-lock solution, this may be the option for you.

NEW RELEASE: Blackwater Ammunition Universal Suppressor System BWS-1

Much like power adapters for small electronic devices, each silencer manufacturer has their own mounting system that is rarely compatible with competing companies products. While each system has its positives and negatives, I believe that consumers secretly want uniformity in their suppressor attachment systems. Blackwater Ammunition is unveiling the new BWS series of silencers that is capable of attaching to standard bird cage flashiders, giving shooters the ability to swap between hosts easily and quickly.

IMBEL's Xodo pistols: a brief look at compact M1911 descendants

In the Portuguese language, the noun “Xodó” is a popular expression to indicate one on whom we have a very special romantic crush or long-lasting love relationship. It’s no small wonder, then, that IMBEL – Indústria de Material Bélico do Brasil has chosen it as the name of two of its dozen-or-so pistols currently available, models that have received a great deal of attention in the local market. More significant, by the way, is the fact that the Brazilian weapons manufacturer had never given any of its products a name, other than its usual — and a little confusing, in my opinion– system of caliber, model number (e.g. MD1, MD2, etc.), and suffix (LX, GC, TC, etc.) designations.

Welcome everyone, thank you for joining TFB’s Silencer Saturday. Back in January at the 2018 SHOT Show TFB’s big boss Doc Rader, TFBTV’s James Reeves and I had a unique opportunity to visit a range on the outskirts of Vegas and meet up with the team from Delta P Design. If you remember, last year  I reviewed the Brevis II Ultra – a six ounce 5.56mm silencer that can withstand heavy fire schedules. Today we take a look at two of Delta P Design’s latest developments: a Brevis III specifically designed for the Sig Sauer Rattler and the Heckler & Koch MP7.

SB Tactical has just announced that they are shipping SBA3 braces as of today. I am sure many of you are familiar with SB Tactical and their line of stabilizing braces. Then they came out with dedicated braces like the MP5 braces and their first adjustable brace, the SB-PDW. Well the SBA3 interfaces with milspec carbine receiver extensions and is 5 position adjustable.

TFB REVIEW: Detroit Ammunition 12 Gauge Subsonic

When you think of firearm suppressors and subsonic ammunition, I’m guessing that a 12 Gauge scattergun is the furthest thing from your mind. Reducing the report of a shotgun to acceptable levels is fraught with challenges. A gigantic bore diameter, wadding and shot cups, suppressor availability, barrel length considerations and  limited ammo availability all weigh on the practicality of muffling the report of a shotgun. Luckily, companies like Detroit Ammunition have been coming up with options for shooters who want to take their 12ga blasters in a different direction.

TFB Optics Buying Guide – Spring 2018

As we begin to thaw out of our winter dens (keep quiet, Southern States), we start to dust off our gear for the upcoming shooting season. And with the end of hibernation comes the lust for upgrading our guns and gear. While the draw to pickup a new rifle or pistol is always persistent, the appreciation of quality optics can sometimes be forgotten. So we thought we could list out some non iron sight options in TFB’s Optics Buying Guide.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: The High Price Of Night Vision

Good evening everyone. Thanks for coming back to TFB’s Friday Night Lights Series. A common theme among first-time buyers of high-end night vision gear always seems to revolve around price. Specifically, why is everything so expensive? We touched on this briefly last year in my interview with Todd Huey of Lone Star Boars and what it really comes down to is the ‘economies of scale’. The primary focus of night vision manufacturers is supplying military and government customers with mission-ready gear. A side effect of this sales formula is that the supply for civilian customers is always limited. And since the market won’t support setting up expensive new manufacturing facilities, the limited amount of gear for sale to the general public will be reflected in the retail costs.

BREAKING: Citibank To Limit Gun Sales

Financial giant Citibank announced today that the company would place restrictions on gun sales by their clients. Specifically, they will require businesses to limit gun sales only to individuals over the age of 21 and require a criminal background check. Currently federal law restricts the sale of rifles and shotguns by anyone under the age of 18 and handguns by anyone under the age of 21. In addition, businesses engaged in the sale of firearms are required to have buyers to complete an ATF 4473 Firearms Transaction Record that contains a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) questionnaire.
