[SHOT 2018] Turkish Army's New Handgun: Sarslmaz's SAR 9 in the U.S.
Sarsılmaz is making waves in the Turkish small arms community today for a number of reasons. The company recently upped their quota of MPT76s from 15,000 to 50,000 for the Turkish Army (conversation with Sarsılmaz Booth). In addition to the rifle contract, the company’s 9x19mm NATO SAR 9 has recently scored a major contract with the Turkish Military and National Police forces, for over 100,000 handguns. We were able to take a look at the SAR 9 at Range Day and even shoot a few magazines through it.
[SHOT 2018] Phalanx Adds Baton Holder, QD System to Holster Line Up
Phalanx Smart Holsters is a Florida based company that has been manufacturing a unique holster that locks a handgun into position via the slide of the handgun, and requires a sort of rocking movement to unlock and unholster the handgun. It also has a thumb locking lever that must be actuated for the handgun to be released from the holster. The premise behind the system is to create a holster that is difficult for folks not familiar with it to be able to draw the handgun from an LE officer but yet give that same officer the ability to draw his handgun quickly and employ it.

INCEPTOR SPORT UTILITY AMMO – Best At 2018 Big Rock West Show
Normally I don’t think twice about posting industry awards: a bunch of well-dressed fat cats smoking cigars and slapping each other on the back (that’s a joke, people). But after seeing the Inceptor Ammo in person, color me impressed. I can’t wait to get some of their Sport Utility Ammo in for testing and reviews. Have a need for frangible rounds? Give Inceptor a good look.
[SHOT 2018] Archon Firearms "Extremely Low Bore Axis" Pistol – the Type B
Archon Firearms, formerly known as Arsenal Firearms USA, showed off to the public their Type B pistol, also formerly known as the Stryk B pistol, at SHOT Show’s Industry Day at the Range. To avoid a potential trademark dispute which would have delayed the introduction of this pistol even longer, Archon Firearms decided to re-brand themselves and the pistol.
[SHOT 2018] Tactical Applications Group's Direct Action Grip
Sometimes the simplest ideas turn into really good ones. Tactical Application Group (completely unrelated to the gear line) is a very small conglomerate of veterans based in the Las Vegas area that has put forth a product that is designed to make the operation of a user’s lights and lasers on a rifle much more intuitive than with previously mounted pressure switches. Essentially, the company has moved the pressure switch to the pistol grip of the rifle. Specifically, an AR15 pistol grip that can be mounted to any weapon system that uses AR pistol grips (thus, not limiting this device to only AR15 platforms). By doing this, the company has essentially turned the switchology involved with ATPIAL devices and various light mounted options that use remote pressure switches into a one-handed operation. Instead of having to squeeze a pressure switch mounted on the handguard of a rifle, or even a magazine well mounted one, a user simply has to operate the pistol grip mounted version with the fingers of their firing hand.

Friday Night Lights: SUREFIRE E2T-MV Tactician Flashlight – TFB Review
As society continues to slip towards a life filled with the expectation that everything we need will be provided to us by someone else, the concept of ‘every day carry’ is falling by the wayside. I was taught from an early age, like many of you, that carrying a knife with you at all times was a necessity. Not because we believed a time would come that a situation would require slicing ninjas with a Buck folder, but because easy access to tools makes you less dependent on others. Much like the EDC knife, a proper flashlight should be required kit for the modern independent man or woman. Today, the SUREFIRE Tactician E2T-MV gets a quick TFB evaluation as a daily carry light.
[SHOT 2018] Cadex's Sheep Dog Rifle and Innovative M2 MG Mount
Miles starts by examining the Cadex M2 Cradle Mount, designed for the Browning M2. On inspection of the mount we see the zero gravity capability and the ease of use provided for manipulating the Browning M2. On top of the Browning we notice the Cadex Kolos mount integrating a recoil mitigation system and a powered ballistic reticle optic. As Miles moves to the Sheep Dog Rifle, Rob Furlong discusses the calibers offered in the new actions as well as the new chassis offered for 2018.
SHOT SHOW SECRET: B&T Set To Release USW-320
Building on the success of their original Universal Service Weapon (USW) pistol, Swiss firearms and suppressor manufacturer B&T has designed a new polymer version based on the P320. Besides the modularity of the new USW-320, the frame itself is imported and sold as an uncontrolled part – meaning customers will be able to to buy it simply as a part or accessory and either add their existing P320 fire control group or purchase a new group through a licensed dealer.
[SHOT 2018] Hogue's New H&K, Sig Knives! And Introduces some new Grip Sleeves
Hogue Grips is introducing an improved version of their well-known rubber wraparound grips for numerous handgun designs. This new line of grips are designed to fit much tighter around a handgun to allow a better purchase on the gun itself. These grips are also incorporating a beavertail that extends up the backstrap of the handguns they are being used with.
LAWSUIT: Gemtech Files Against Smith & Wesson In Federal Court
Recently acquired silencer manufacturer Gemtech has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Smith & Wesson in the Federal District Court Of Idaho. If you remember, about two months after the public announcement of the sale, CEO Ron Martinez was fired for publicly unknown reasons. It is unclear how this legal hurdle will affect the new relationship, and not being “in the business”, I will refrain from making any speculations. My hope is that everyone involved can get this worked out quickly so that Gemtech can get back to just making silencers and S&W can get back to just making guns. The claims are listed in detail below.

[SHOT 2018] Zenith .300blk Z43 and Roller Lock Gunsmithing Services
Zenith has been setting the bar for clone roller locks now for a couple of years. Go to the MP5 Enthusiasts group on Facebook and everyone has high remarks regarding the Zenith guns. Sure if you have more money and want a piece of art then get a Dakota Tactical or pay more for the H&K branding. But you will be hard pressed to find much fault in Zenith’s line of roller locks.
