The Rimfire Report: Do .22LR Bullet Coatings Matter?
Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and all of its different types of firearms, ammo, shooting sports, history, and more! One benefit that the .22LR has being one of the oldest self-contained cartridges in the world is that there is an extensive list of ammo types available to the end user. Whether you want hollow points, round noses, copper projectiles, fancy fracturing ammunition, tracer ammo, or even shotshell ammo - .22LR has just about everything. Depending on what you’re doing, different ammo types could prove to be a better overall choice than just opting for either the most expensive or the cheapest ammunition. One often overlooked feature that can drive the price and performance of ammo either up or down is the type of coating (if any) that is used during the manufacturing process. Today we’re going to take a look at the different types of coatings currently available and see what each offers the shooter and what ammo companies offer that type of coating on their ammo.

The Rimfire Report: Ruger American Rimfire Long-Range Target
Confession. I’ve always enjoyed shooting .22s, but I’ve never owned one personally. That doesn’t mean I haven’t had my eye on one though. Back in 2020, the Ruger American Rimfire Long-Range Target (LRT) caught my interest. As a long-range shooter who loves bolt action rifles, I knew at first glance that I had to have one. The timing couldn’t be better either as I lived in Wyoming and had prairie dog towns everywhere begging me to decimate the varmint population. Bad news, I could not find a single one of these rifles for sale anywhere at the time. It wasn’t meant to be…

Let's dive into something that every rifle needs but doesn't always get enough attention - backup iron sights. Today we're looking at the Meprolight FABS, a set of flip-up sights that promise durability and low-light capability. I've spent some time with these on the range, and while they definitely have some strong points, there are also a few things you should know before dropping your hard-earned cash on them.

Silencer Saturday #352: Are Silencers In Common Use Now?
Welcome back to this week’s edition of Silencer Saturday. Last week we looked at a “DIY Lisle” carbine, an interesting second act for an Enfield rifle that had seen better days. This time we are going to look at the US legal and regulatory framework for silencers, and one potential argument for changing it.
"The Sower of Death" - the History of Yugoslavian M84 Machinegun
Recently I wrote a series of articles about the history of Kalashnikov GPMGs: PK and PKM. However, the history of this machine gun is not limited to the Soviet Union. Different versions of it are still produced in different countries: Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Sudan, China, Ukraine, Romania, North Korea and Vietnam.
POTD: Putting The XM7 To The Test At Fort Campbell
Photo Of The Day and we’re looking at Maj. Jonathon Bless as he tests the optics on the XM7 rifle at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. This side-view really shows how big of a beast the XM7 is. As regular readers of TFB surely know by now, the XM7 is a part of the U.S. Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program. Designed by SIG Sauer, the XM7 is a 6.8mm rifle meant to replace the M4 and other legacy rifles, offering greater firepower and range. The XM7 is often paired with the advanced XM157 Fire Control System, which integrates optics and ballistic calculation to assist soldiers in acquiring targets with precision.

5 Firearms To Have On Hand For A Natural Disaster
I remember my first hurricane as if it were yesterday. Shelves were barren, and lines to stock up on supplies stretched the span of entire stores. When the hurricane hit, it was a spectacle to behold. Wind and heavy rain whipped through the area, taking out trees and power lines. It was the experience that showed me Mother Nature’s wrath. It taught me the lesson that you can’t fight a natural disaster, but you surely can prepare for one. Power and water were out for days. The roads were un-navigatable due to large limbs and debris scattering the roads. I imagine the gun stores were closed for quite some time.
POTD: IWI Carmel - Thermal and Neons
Bravo42 Photography once again catches our attention, with this IWI Carmel. It’s a modern semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston rifle for 5.56 mm NATO. As you may notice, there have been some alterations from the way an original Carmel comes delivered. There’s an ARCA place, a new pistol grip, a bipod and tritium iron sights. The suppressor is called R9 and comes from Yankee Hill Machine Co. The R9 is made to take a whole range of calibers, as long as you stay below 9mm of course. Last but not least, there is a thermal weapon sight called Clarion 640 from AGM USA, with a 640 x 512 thermal sensor.
Concealed Carry Corner: Range Guns Vs Carry Guns
Welcome back to another episode of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we discussed carrying in a system and prioritizing how you carry things in tiers. If you happened to miss that article, be sure to click the link here to check it out. This week, I want to take a closer look at the differences when it comes to having a reliable range gun to practice with versus having a reliable carry gun. Both have their place but if you train a fair bit, they shouldn’t be used for the same role. Let’s take a closer look at some of the differences between rang guns vs carry guns.
