In IPSC Practical Shooting the rules stipulate that all handguns must be carried unloaded, in a case or bag of a design intended or suitable for the safe carriage of firearms, or in a holster securely attached to the competitor’s belt. Primary reason: Safety.

Pistol Caliber Carbine, PCC, is growing in popularity. It’s a blast to shoot and matches are far easier to setup than for normal rifles. So it’s understandable that the market offers what the customers are looking for, hence the increase in PCC related firearms and accessories.

The 2018 IPSC Shotgun World Shoot in Chateauroux, France, is over and the winner in Open division is Josh Froelich (USA).

The Glock 43 is a pretty difficult handgun to shoot. And strong hand only shooting doesn’t make it easier. At least if you’re engaging targets further away than 15 yards with precision and you care about my opinion.

At IWA, CZ showed off their newest version of the CZ Shadow 2. They are following the trend and milling the slide to mount an optic. This is most likely due to the surging popularity of the carry optics divisions in IPSC and of course USPSA.

SR1 is a balanced action rifle made by Kalashnikov Concern for the competition shooting market. We have earlier reported about this rifle which was shown during the Arms & Hunting 2017 exhibition. A couple of days ago, Kalashnikov Media released a video showing the pre-production prototype and revealing more details about this gun. To watch that video, click the link below:

What may make a pistol great for home defense, LE/Military use, or concealed carry may not translate well to a pure competition pistol, and vice versa.  Competition pistols can run into the multiple thousands of dollars.  For those starting out in the sport, such cost can be daunting.  Sure, a stock Glock 17 or CZ75 can get one pretty far into these sports before the need or (let’s be honest here) desire for the “next level” of equipment comes to pass.  If one has the inclination to look for a pistol designed specifically for competition shooting in the USPSA or IPSC style of competitions, a certain set of features is desirable. If this author were looking for one, these are some traits he would look for:

Wilson Combat launched a video series on their YouTube channel where Bill Wilson and Ken Hackathorn talk about guns and practical shooting. The series is called Gun Guys. What makes it especially valuable is that they share their experience and tell stories from the days when practical shooting was just becoming a thing and the part of the firearms industry supporting it was experimenting with different ideas and concepts.
