New DOLOS System from Huntertown Arms

The AR-15, while a highly effective weapons system, known for its modularity, has not been known for using a quick-change barrel. That changed in the last two years with two systems introduced to the market, the DOLOS from Huntertown Arms and the Q/D system from DRD Tactical.

B&T APC556 PDW and Raubtier Thermal Imaging at IWA 2016

Swiss company B&T is only a small to medium sized company, but with big ears and very short distance from demand to R&D to production and delivery. Don’t ask why Heckler & Koch springs to mind as something being the total opposite.

Counter Strike firearms skins, at $12,000 a day

Probably one of the biggest mistakes you can make in this day and age, is to underestimate the potential of a gamer, or coder for that matter. Some smart guys in Montreal have put their gaming caps on, and h have created a website called OPskins, that sells virtual skins for various weapons in the PC game Counter-Strike. You might ask, what is the big deal? And I might tell you, one of their knife skins sold for over $5,000, these two guys are bringing in over $12,000 a day at times, and over 370,000 CS gamers have purchased from them. In fact, for an upcoming CS gaming convention in Montreal, the company is investing over $100,000 for the event, to give back to the community. However this is my favorite part of the article, that one of the guys is still living in his parents basement… I’m sorry… But the money and the basement isn’t computing very well with me, unless his parents are charging him rent!

AR-15 vs AK-47, Which Makes Sense for a Greenhorn?

Yes, yes, yes… We know the eternal debate between the two most popular platforms rages daily and we do try not to fan the flames, but The Wound Channel has an interesting video comparing the two from a completely unique perspective: a complete 100% new to the platform shooter with no experience shooting, at all. The two test platforms are a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 and a standard pattern AKM.

US Secret Service Issues Solicitation For a New Service Rifle

The United States Secret Service has put out a request for a new rifle, as listed on this Federal Government business solicitation page, and as reported by Soldier Systems Daily. I recommend reading both as they have different sets of information. There will be a conference in DC on April 4th for any companies/parties that are interested in participating in the competition. Essentially they want a 34 inch, folding stock, 5.56x45mm rifle for their agents. Soldier Systems Daily reported that this is probably going to be an upgrade from the Services current MP5s (which they also have full length M4s, interestingly enough, most of their uniformed side uses them). They also want it to last 20,000 rounds, and 10 years in service, in addition to 10,000 such rifles. According to their website, they have 4,500 agents, so this contract will give them roughly twice the number of rifles that it would take to equip every single agent they have on staff. Of course, some of these agents probably won’t be issued this depending on their jobs, but it still seems like that is a large amount of rifles for the amount of agents they have, also factoring in guns going down for repair or replacement. They also mentioned that it could either be a direct gas impingement, or a piston operated gun, so it looks like they are looking for some sort of full auto AR15 platform as well. Interestingly there is nothing about magazine capacity, apart from the height which would limit it to maybe a 30 round STANAG magazine. The need for a 5.56x45mm round might be from the increasing threat of assailants with body armor that could stop the current 9x19mm MP5s that they are issued.

Gatling gun AR15, compliments of Jerry Miculek!

Miculek is at it again with his Youtube shenanigans! This time he has enlisted the help of a Gat Crank, from a company called Two Z Precision. The gizmo is only $30, and consists of a series of cranks, bars, and activators that presses an AR15 trigger three times within one rotation. Miculek essentially reviews the piece on his private range with his S&W AR15 in his typical style of candor and humor, but he is very safety conscious, and serves as an excellent role model for this. He shoots several magazines, and a drum magazine with this contraption, both with a suppressor on, and then off. Then he just plays along with “helping the planet” by buying as many sugar filled drinks as possible and blowing them all to bits on his range. The ending of the movie is especially interesting as the camera captures the action of the crank in slow motion footage so you literally see each firing sequence as the crank is turned on the AR.

AR-15 Prophylactics on Amazon

When one has to operate completely operationally, covering ones rifle shaft is a necessity. Recognizing this, a Amazon seller aptly named “AR-15 Condoms” is offering just that, an AR-15 Condom. Tousted as perfect to avoid STDs (Sh*t, Trash, and Debris), the condoms are purposefully sized to A2 flash hiders (sorry, no magnum sizes). This one is designed to break too, “simply shoot through it(!)”.

What in the heck is a .510 Beck you ask? They’ll be available in 327 grains all the way up to 680 grains. While Beck Defense developed the cartridge, Devil Dog Arms will be making the rifles for them and Lancer will be making the magazines. New AR Stock from FAB Defense

Odds are good you have an AR-15 – or two, or three – in your gun safe. One of the great things about the popularity of the AR-15 is the not only the number of options out there for purchasing the gun itself but the phenomenal number of after-market parts. You certainly have options when it comes to after-market additions to your AR and when it comes to stocks those options are practically endless. But can your stocks do what the new FAB Defense stock does?F

Captain Crunch, where small arms go to die…

This post is a culmination of two news articles, and a History Channel video sample that I just saw today from the Fox News Article, an Army.mil article, and the Youtube clip. At the Anniston, AL depot, there is a machine that has been operating since the 1990s, and is affectionately called, “Captain Crunch”. The purpose of this machine is to completely and absolutely demilitarize any small arms that are sent to it. Emphasis on demilitarizing them into tiny pieces. Apparently over a million small arms have been ran through the machine, much to the complete sorrow and heartfelt pain of collectors all over the country. The reasons for demilitarization are that they are either obsolete, or they are beyond repair. Some of the obsolete stuff gets sent to the CMP South store which is in the same city in Alabama. The workers there say that they see the oddest stuff get sent into the machine, from old small arms to M16A1s.
