M.A.C.S Rifles – SNES Laser M16s

Aside from the SNES and the custom made cartridge, the heart of the system is the laser M16 M.A.C.S. rifles. In my previous post, I pointed out that these were used by the US Military and very few have survived to end up in private citizen’s hands. This makes them very rare and super desirable to collectors. There is not a lot of good information about the training rifles. What little I found often references the Jäger AP74, a .22LR rifle that sort of looks like an M16.

TFB Review: Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25×56 Has Landed

For the past year, I have been dabbling in shooting further and further. I still remember when I started out back in 2011 when shooting 400 yards seem long range for me. Mostly because at the time I did not have access to a range past 200 yards. So I did not understand hold over for the round I was shooting. As I started to finally push out to further I started out with a Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 6-24x50mm EBR-1 Reticle on my 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger American Predator. That gun didn’t quite cut it. I then acquired a Loaded M1A in 6.5 Creedmoor and put that scope on it. I found shooting out to 1,000 yards a bit challenging and I had more misses than hits. Also, the reticle was not great and I rapidly ran out of elevation. So I scaled back and tried the Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50mm FFP. It cost less than half the price of the Viper and has a phenomenal reticle for such a low cost scope.

TFB Review: Leupold Performance Eyewear – Packout Edition

Leupold has recently launched its Performance Eyewear line of glasses. As a designer and manufacturer of high-quality optics, this is a bit of a departure from their normal product line up. However, I’m willing to give almost anything a shot, and Leupold generously sent out a pair of “ Packout” style glasses for testing and evaluation.

TFB Review: Springfield Armory SAINT Victor .308 Pistol

Earlier I reviewed the Cypher X SCAR17Shorty, a SCAR 17S pistol cut down to 13″. When the opportunity to review the new Springfield Armory SAINT Victor 308 Pistol presented itself I jumped at it. I was curious what a 10.3″ .308 pistol would be like. I was pleasantly surprised and it exceeded my expectations.

Taurus sent me out a copy for testing and evaluation and the results quite surprised me.

SILENCER SATURDAY #130: Innovative Arms Integrally Suppressed Scorpion K

Happy Saturday everyone and welcome back to TFB’s weekly discussion of silencers and accessories designed to make suppressed weapons perform to their fullest potential. Last week we talked about the current state of the National Firearms Act – a series of laws and regulations initially designed to essentially ban silencers from common use that now forces gun owners to wait a year or more before taking possession of their purchased property. In happier news, this week we take a look at a integrally suppressed scorpion IA- SC9-K from Innovative arms. How does it stack up to the MP5SD, H&K SP5, B&T APC9 and other suppressed pistol caliber carbines on the market today? Let’s take a look.

Friday Night Lights: AGM Asp-Micro TM384 Thermal Monocular

AGM Global Vision is a relatively new company. I discovered them at the last SHOT Show back in January. At the time I did not see much that was interesting but lately they have come out with some affordable products that are worth looking into. If you recall, they have a dual-tube bino night vision housing called the NVG-50. Well, now we will take a look at one of their entry-level thermal monoculars, the Asp-Micro TM384.

TFB Review: XTech Tactical AK Magazines and Accessories

Founded in 2013, XTech Tactical was formed by a group of firearms enthusiasts.  If their reputation lives up to the hype, this could be a huge win for any and all fans of the Kalashnikov platform. They offered to send some of their newest AK Magazines, and other accessories over for review. With my work cut out for me, and I dusted off a few cases of 7.62×39 and got to work.

Friday Night Lights: Unity Tactical FAST Micro Mount & FTC Magnifier Mount

Holy height over bore Batman! The Unity Tactical FAST Micro Mount and FTC Magnifier mounts look really tall for carbine optics but you might be surprised they don’t feel that tall. In fact, they are not the tallest on the market. The Micro FAST Mount was purposefully designed with modern gear in mind. Due to the increased height, the FAST FTC magnifier mount was created to give the shooter the added functionality of magnification.

TFB Review: Primary Arms SLx MD-25 Red Dot Sight

The SLx MD-25 has a full 25mm clear aperture. And it actually offers a wider field of view compared to older 30mm red dots while being smaller and lighter weight. The MD-25 shares some similarities with other micro red dots. However, the power/brightness knob is on the left-hand side. It features a high efficiency LED that offers a run time of 50,000 hours at a medium setting. There are 11 brightness settings with two of them for night vision use.

Friday Night Lights: NightStalker II – Night Vision For Your Camera

The photo that Steve posted 8 years ago was of a NightStalker II mounted onto a Nikon DSLR. The NightStalker II currently in my hands is for Canon cameras. I do not have a Canon DSLR but I do have a Sony A7S mirrorless camera. I was able to mount the NightStalker II onto an adapter that allows Canon lenses to be used on my Sony.

TFB Review: Leupold D-EVO Offset Optic

An opportunity arose to check out some Leupold Optics. I requested the Leupold D-EVO offset optic because it is such a unique optic design. For those not familiar with the D-EVO, it is an offset 6x rifle scope. It is not your traditional offset optic. There is no need to roll or tilt your gun to look through it. In fact, the D-EVO is the fastest 6X optic when switching from 1x to 6X. One aspect of the D-EVO that I wanted to explore is can I use the D-EVO with night vision? And surprisingly, it works, but more about that later.

Friday Night Lights: Dual Tube Spotlight – AGM NVG-50

A rather newcomer to the night vision industry, AGM Global Vision has a budget-friendly dual tube night vision goggle called the NVG-50. Actually, it looks a lot like the ARMASIGHT BNVD-51 which was brought under FLIR for a time. The NVG-50 is feature-packed and boasts a 50° FOV all for an affordable price of just around $1,000 for just the housing with glass. Sounds too good to be true. Let’s take a closer look at the NVG-50.

TFB Review: CZ Shadow 2 SA 9mm (Single-Action Only)

When it comes to choosing range pistols, whether it is to shoot a league or simply improve your shooting ability on your own time, a lot of us reach for polymer guns. So, where is the love for metal-frame pistols? There are lots of brands out there and platforms to pick from, but all of our metal alloy friends get passed over more times than not. I am personally guilty of this. I heard the gospel of Gaston probably 5 years ago and have been guzzling that Kool-Aid ever since. Recently though I came across the CZ-USA Shadow 2 SA (Single-Action Only) 9mm. I dry-fired it once in my gun shop and I was hooked! So, in today’s TFB Review we are going to assess whether my dry-fire was foolish love at first sight or something that could become eternal love. Let’s dive in!

TFB Review: Vortex Razor HD GEN III 1-10×24 Scope

Back in October, I did a review on the Razor HD 1-6 GEN II from Vortex Optics and overall it was a fantastic option. At the time, it was one of the nicest LPVOs I’ve tested and owned. Fast forward to SHOT Show when Vortex unveiled their new Razor HD GEN III 1-10×24 optic and I immediately had questions. From the initial specs, I was rather confused how Vortex managed to create 10x of magnification without making the optic longer in overall length. I was incredibly interested, so Vortex was nice enough to send out a review sample for me to try out. Over the last three months, I have been testing it and have had enough trigger time to figure out an overall opinion. Let’s dive into the specs and my thoughts on the Vortex Razor 1-10.

TFB Review: Alien Gear PPK Shoulder Holster – Larping Uncharted Or 007

Shoulder holsters ripe for debate. They have quite a bit of negatives with just a few positives which we will go into later. I got the opportunity to review a holster of my choosing from Alien Gear and I decided to keep an open mind while satisfying a bit of nerdy curiosity. I wanted a holster for my Walther PPK/S and when I looked at what Alien Gear had to offer, their Cloak PPK Shoulder Holster piqued my interest.

SILENCER SATURDAY #125: Silly Fun, Stupid Quiet – Suppressed 22LR AR15

Good morning everyone and welcome back to another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by our friends at Yankee Hill Machine and Graham Brothers Rifle Works, manufacturers of the MARC chassis and complete bolt action pistols chambered in either 300BLK or .308 Win. Today we take a look at the IASW Suppressed 22LR AR-15 from Innovative Arms. Small, light, inexpensive to shoot and very quiet, the IASW is a very quietly to practice skills or just backyard plink without alerting the neighbors. Heck, you wont even alert the guy standing next to you. Is it worth spending around $1,000 of your hard earned cash for a suppressed rimfire AR? Let’s take a look.

TFB Review: The 1-8×24 PM II ShortDot Dual CC – from Schmidt & Bender

The Firearm Blog is on a mission to review as many of the Schmidt & Bender PM II Riflescopes as we can. An “oldtimer” still in young shape.

TFB REVIEW: New Battle Rifle – SIG Sauer TREAD 716i AR-10

Dear diary. It feels like an eternity since I have expressed my thoughts and feelings to you. When we last spoke I was in the middle of a love triangle. In one corner was the classic American “round next door”; a slender and sleek 5.56mm sweetheart that is easy going, reliable and comfortable in almost any situation. In the other corner was a more exotic round; a curvier contour with a bit more… mass. With expensive tastes, this 300BLK spinner is a lot of fun, with wild personality swings of raw pleasure and sass. Then there’s me, caught in the middle between simple utility and toe-curling pleasure. But it turns out two loves are not enough for my lusts and I’m writing you today to propose adding a third outlet into my life. Older, more experienced and professionally powerful, this would fill a longer-term role. Should I make this triangle into a square and add the SIG Sauer TREAD 716i battle rifle chambered in .308 Winchester? Please don’t say no, I’ve already succumbed to her love.

TFB Review: WOOX Wildman and Exactus Chassis

When it comes to precision rifle stocks and chassis, most manufacturers have moved to aluminum or composite materials. WOOX has gone in a different direction. They blend the old with the new. Their chassis are a mix of aircraft grade aluminum with the feel of a wood stock. The WOOX Wildman is their entry-level stock while the Exactus has elements of a precision stock. They sent them both in for us to check them out.

TFB Review: Tyrant Designs Glock 43X & 48 +4 Magazine Extensions

Tyrant Designs is a manufacturer of high-quality US Made CNC machined AR-15 and handgun upgrades and accessories. Recently they sent me out a pair of their Glock 43X & 48 +4 Magazine extensions. When it comes to magazine extensions the deciding vote on whether they’re quality extensions or not usually comes down to how well they function with the gun. In addition to that metric, I will also go over how they change the carry experience in comparison to the standard capacity magazines.
