TFB Review: 5.11 Tactical Bravo Pant – Call for an Encore or Call for an Evac!

It is that time of year where many of us are getting into the full swing of the hunting and fishing seasons fall has to offer. I am absolutely one of the individuals in that camp because my calendar is littered with red “X” marks denoting all of the time off I have allocated for adventuring and attempting to fill my freezer with wild game. When it comes to being in the great outdoors my clothing is merely an after-thought; as it should be. I should be so confident in my clothing and gear that I am only intently focused on the hunt or my task at hand. I should not wonder whether or not my garments are up for the task. In this TFB Review, we take a look at another one of 5.11 Tactical‘s newest articles of clothing with their Bravo Pant where I aggressively tested them in torrential rainfall on Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area of Minnesota. Let’s see if the Bravo Pant is deserving of an encore or if I needed to call for evac!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Nitecore P20 & AA Powered EA42

After our last Nitecore review, NItecore sent us their P20 and EA42. I was interested in the EA42 since it is a AA powered light that puts out a respectable 1800 lumens. While the P20 is their basic 800 lumen tactical flashlight. Let us first take a closer look at the Nitecore P20 and then the EA42.

TFB Review: 1-4×24 Carbine Scope From S2 Delta

The S2 Delta company recently released their 1-4×24 Carbine Scope. S2 Delta was already in the business of making rifle slings, but this was their first venture into rifle optics.  As the 1-4x implies, the S2 Delta scope is a low power variable optic (LPVO) that lets the user engage targets from several yards out to several hundred yards.  The optic’s reticle has a Bullet Drop Compensator (BDC) with quick reference points for windage.  The reticle is in the second focal plane to keep the reticle the same size no matter what power setting the scope is set to.  The 1-4×24 optic has a 30mm diameter tube that I paired with an Aero Precision Ultralight Scope Mount, courtesy of S2 Delta for the review. Let’s dig in.

TFB Review: SureFeed's E2 AR15 Magazine

One of my personal hobbies even before writing for TFB was looking at different products and seeing what works best for me at the range. Rifle magazines were one of the first products I really enjoyed buying to test out on my rifles and AR pistols. In the past, I’ve written up my take on polymer vs metal magazines in a previous article.

TFB Review: Scalarworks LEAP/Mag Aimpoint Magnifier Mount

Over the last few years, I have been running the Aimpoint magnifier with their PRO and CompM4 red dots. When I bought the magnifier for my Aimpoint, I still had the factory mount that twisted off the mount. It was an early Aimpoint mount and I decided to purchase a LaRue swivel mount for my Aimpoint 3x magnifier. After running the LaRue mount for a few years, I saw the Scalarworks LEAP/Mag mount and was immediately interested. After running the Scalarworks LEAP/Mag mount for about 4 months, I have enough time behind it to give my impressions so far on the mount.

TFB Review: The New U.S. Optics TS-20X Scope

One of the newest additions to the U.S. Optics lineup is the TS-20X.  Built for both long-range hunters and precision shooters alike, the TS-20X features a broad magnification range.  The 2.5-20 power scope aims to be just a cut above your average Low Power Variable Optic (LPVO).

We all invest a lot of money in different gear to improve our shooting ability, our organization at home and at the gun range, and to sometimes to do both on our person. We are rolling into the cooler months of fall as we usher in the month of September which means hunting, hiking, exploring the outdoors, and tidying up our properties outside before we are bombarded with snow. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Holosun LS321G – IR/VIS/Illuminator Review

For those who like to shoot in the dark with night vision, often it is easier to aim with a laser than try to look through your optic while wearing NODs on your face. Most night vision users tend to go to Steiner for their DBAL or L3 for their ATPIAL/PEQ15. While those two are the industry standard, besides the BE Meyers MAWL-C1+, there are other options for a Multi-Function Aiming Laser (MFAL) like the Holosun LS321G.

A Closer Look at Accuracy with the UIC ADM4 Mod2

I expected the results to improve with match ammunition and a magnified optic. This was stated in the original article. I did not expect the results to show sub MOA performance at 100 yards!

TFB Review: Type-A Rifle's 10.5 AR Pistol

In Michigan, it is illegal to have a rifle in your vehicle unless there’s a specific purpose for it. With the current laws, I often will carry a 10.5 AR pistol in my truck locked in a vehicle safe. Usually, this is with me when I am going on trips or long distances. I will also take a handgun but having something else to protect yourself is never a bad way to go.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Pulsar Thermion XP50 Thermal Scope

This week we will take a look at an interesting thermal scope. When you think of thermal weapon sights they have a stereotypical look. The ATN Thor4 has a distinct thermal device look to it even though they tried to make parts of it compatible with traditional scope rings. It still screams thermal device. My Flir T50, while it is a thermal clip on it definitely has a distinct look to it. The Pulsar Thermion XP50, on the other hand, looks like a normal day scope to the untrained eye. However, the aesthetics of the XP50 is only skin deep. The resolution and performance of the XP50 are amazing.

TFB Review: The UIC ADM4 Mod2 From ADM

The (UIC) ADM4 Mod 2 retails for $1,850. It is nice to see a company not try to reinvent the wheel, but to come out with a good mixture of parts they are good at producing mixed with parts from other industry leaders. Often when buying an AR, the initial purchase is just that. The initial purchase provides the foundation of the rifle. However, many parts are later purchased to upgrade to the user’s wants or needs. This results in drawers of parts the shooter does not need and useless expense. While user needs can fluctuate, most of the commonly upgraded features are already high-end parts on the ADM4 Mod 2.

TFB Book Review: The Custom Revolver by Hamilton Bowen

The Custom Revolver likely is not a new title to most of TFB readers, as it is a classic published almost 20 years ago. In its hardcover form, it quickly went out of stock and its qualities and rarity made it a collectible. It may seem an odd choice to review such a dated, albeit extremely valuable, publication, but the idea to write about this book came from 2 recent events:

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: ColorTac CVA-14 – Color Analog Night Vision

TFB Review: Marlin 336 Dark .30-30 Win Lever-Action

A rifle that is brand new this year and will be ready just in time for fall is the Marlin 336 Dark .30-30 Win lever-action! At the NRA Show 2019, this past April Marlin unveiled two NEW Dark Series rifles for hunters and shooters to drool over: the 1895 Dark .45-70 Gov’t and 336 Dark .30-30 Win. Both of these rifles were the talk of the NRA Show because it blends modern ideas and styling without ruining the stalwart platform that is the lever-action. In this TFB Review, we are going to take a deep-dive look at the 336 Dark .30-30 Win to see if this rifle can satisfy the hearts of lever-action purists and those from a younger generation!

TFB Review: CZ Bobwhite G2

While they might be Elmer Fudd’s gun of choice, side by side shotguns aren’t that common in America anymore, mostly due to the fact that many of the good ones are quite expensive.  Those that aren’t, such as the Stoeger Coach Gun, have deficiencies such as poor stock to receiver fitment, sticky chambers, and cheap stock finishes that degrade quickly.  CZ’s Bobwhite G2 comes in at the very affordable MSRP of $655.  This price makes it more at home in the gun rack of a Polaris SXS or old truck than in the bespoke velvet cabinets of a “shooting brake”.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Glock 43 TLR-6 Review

Sub compact guns for concealed carry are great for many reasons. However they are often limited in terms of options for adding lights or lasers. There are some mediocre options out there but the Glock 43 TLR-6 keeps your sub compact pistol svelte while still giving you the benefits of having a weapon mounted light and laser.

TFB Review: The Craziness of the PTR 32 KF

In all honesty, I never planned on buying a PTR 32 KF and it stemmed from a rather simple mistake that turned into a new gun purchase. I was online and instead of ordering 100 rounds of 5.56 ammo, I ordered a 1,000 round case of 7.62×39. I still to this day don’t understand whose mistake it was, but rather than trying to get my money back, I decided to buy a new gun. Since I was young. I grew up shooting AKs and variations of the AK system so I wanted to look for something a bit different. I checked out a few different AR-15s in 7.62×39 but ended up liking the PTR 32 most.
