POTD: Indonesian National Armed Forces with U.S. Marines

Photo Of The Day – Every day we present our readers with at least one photo. The subject is always a firearm of some kind, preferably with a muzzle flash or some action around it. But we’re happy with a perfectly edited still life photo as well. Today we have U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit Maritime Raid Force. They have just landed on the beach during an amphibious raid on Singkep Island, which is an island in the Lingga Archipelago in Indonesia. The joint exercise between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command is called Super Garuda Shield 22.

POTD: It's AUGtober! Steyr AUG A3 SF in The Sound of Earth

For gun nuts, it’s now officially AUGtober! Off to Austria then, to take a look at what’s going on in Lake Traun, or Traunsee, a lake in the Salzkammergut (Salzburg area). The lake has a maximum depth of 191 meters, and it’s a popular tourist destination, with medieval castles and other attractions. In our Photo Of The Day, we see members of the Austrian Jagdkommando combat divers with their Steyr AUG A3 SF rifles. This bullpup is used by Austrian Jagdkommando Special Forces and uses a 3x optic housing, which is lower than normal to make it more comfortable to use the red dot sight on top. The A3 SF version also has additional side rails, scope covers and an external bolt release.

POTD: Remington MSR (Modular Sniper Rifle) in Afghanistan (2013)

TFB’s Photo Of The Day. We go back in time, to Afghanistan in 2013. Above we see Spc. Daniel S. Kennedy, from Tuttle, Oklahoma, with 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, as he provides security as Afghan Border Police (ABP) break ground on a new checkpoint, in the Spin Boldak district, Kandahar province, Afghanistan. The ABP moved to the new location to block an insurgent infiltration route. He’s using the Remington MSR bolt-action rifle. The MSR came out as a winner in the USSOCOM Precision Sniper Rifle competition but was later excluded due to non-compliance.

POTD: The M500 12 Gauge Shotgun in Afghanistan

Photo Of The Day: It’s been over a year, so we hear very few things from Afghanistan. These images were taken in 2014, in the Helmand province, and we see U.S. Marines 3/7 in a shooting competition with various firearms. Above you see U.S. Marine Corps Capt. James Covey, commanding officer, Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment (3/7), as his M500 12 gauge shotgun spits fire. The pump-action Mossberg 500 (M500) is made by O.F. Mossberg & Sons and has been in service since 1987. It was designed in 1961 by Carl Benson.

POTD: M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System in Jordan

Today’s Photo Of The Day is a photo from the U.S. Central Command that shows U.S. Marines with 5th Platoon, Charlie Company, Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team, Central Command (or FASTCENT). As you can see, there are two spotters and snipers with the M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System, in action during a live-fire range operation. According to the caption, FASTCENT provides expeditionary antiterrorism and security forces to embassies, consulates and other vital national assets throughout the region.

Today’s Photo Of The Day is a picture by Tactical Imports Corporation (Canada) showing two Polish FB “Łucznik” Radom 9mm pistols – the VIS 35 and VIS 100M1. The former was designed in 1930 and adopted by the Polish Army in 1936. The latter, VIS 100M1, is the civilian version of the VIS 100 pistol which was adopted by the Polish Army in 2019. The VIS 100M1 has recently crossed the pond and is now available in the USA and Canada.

POTD: Finland's 9.00 Submachine Gun 2000 (H&K MP5)

The 9.00 Submachine Gun 2000 is used by the Finnish Border Guards, the Finnish Police and the Finnish Defence Forces. POTD: Multiple Weapons Sustainment Training in Japan

In this Photo Of The Day we have a happy team of U.S. Marines and Naval personnel with the Special Reaction Team, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific. They’re posing for photos during multiple weapons sustainment training earlier this year. The location is Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. Camp Hansen is named for the Medal of Honor recipient Dale M. Hansen. Hansen was killed by a Japanese sniper’s bullet three days after his actions on Hill 60, during the Battle of Okinawa.
