POTD: Wheel Of Destruction

Last month I posted the Wheelgun Wednesday photo. Here is a wheel of guns but of a slightly different variety. These are shotguns by Blackaces Tactical. As you can see in the photo, they are magazine fed pump action shotguns. Blackaces Tactical offers a unique firearm that is cleverly classified as only FIREARM. Normally Shotguns are classified as smooth bore and having a barrel be 18.5 inches or longer. Any barrel shorter than that is either considered a short barreled shotgun (SBS) or Any Other Weapon (AOW). The Blackaces Tactical took a look at what criteria the ATF determines a certain classification of firearm. So their DT series firearms actually falls into loop holes of what it can’t be so it can only be classified as firearm.

The Ranger Point Precision Lever Action Shotgun

The good people at Ranger Point Precision have been on quite the roll recently. As I contemplate one of their custom . 40S&W lever action carbines (yes, you heard that right), they have just announced the release of another gun from my growing wishlist: a Marlin .410 lever action shotgun. Born from a donated Marlin 336 in .30-30, the RPP scattergun is lighter and has more shell capacity than the official version released in 2004 that was built on a hefty 444 frame.

Whether you’re focused on honing your tactical skills or interested in spending as many hours as possible in the woods you undoubtedly own more than a few lights. And then there are the lights designed to be mounted to your firearms. Even those particular lights can be hard to find in your hoped-for design, whatever it may be. Any Other Weapon (AOW): The NFA Catch-All

Even the most experienced “stamp collectors” can be missing the coveted $5 red stamp. While making and transferring National Firearms Act (NFA) controlled items like Short Barreled Rifles (SBRs), Short Barreled Shotguns (SBSs), Silencers and Destructive Devices (DDs) require all the requisite BATFE paperwork AND $200, the price to transfer Any Other Weapons (AOWs) is only $5. But is an AOW really a bargain?

Gun Review: FN SLP Competition Shotgun

Since FN was already sending us a 3-Gun focused rifle, it seemed only natural they would send along their SLP Competition 12-Gauge shotgun. I would have liked to run the two guns together in a 3-Gun match, but weather and my schedule prohibited it. That said, we did manage a thorough test of the SLP Competition.

Do you even Breach Bro? Back to making entry 101

This video is apparently sweeping the interwebs at the moment. From a number of captions so far, we see this labeled as an “FBI Alaska SWAT team” and attributing this to the FBI Alaska field office. The only thing that I am sure of, is that this is a law enforcement branch of some entity, within the United States. Whether or not this is an FBI operation or a a local SWAT operation, I can’t tell at the present time. When more information comes out I’m sure we’ll have a better picture of who and where these guys are. Anyways, kick back, and watch how not to go about making entry, or endangering the lives of your teammates.

Chiappa 1887 T-Series Shotgun

Lever action shotguns were not popular for a long period of time, and even John Browning suggest that Winchester opt for a pump action in lieu of a lever design. However employer trumped employee and thus the 1887 was born. The T-Series is a non-NFA reproduction of the 1887 shotgun and in this video we do a bit of shooting with it.

Congress Could Recognize Remington's 200th Anniversary

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Remington Arms Company and in an interesting turn of events it may not be just fans of Big Green acknowledging the landmark. A New York congressman, Rep. Richard Hanna (R), introduced a resolution on Thursday, September 15, 2016 requesting the United States legislature officially recognize the company’s anniversary. The resolution is rather fittingly listed as House Resolution 870 and is titled “Recognizing the 200th Anniversary of the Remington Arms Company”.

Inforce releases Gen2 WML lights

Inforce, a manufacturer of high quality picatinny mounted weapon lights has upgraded their WML line with their new Gen2 WML series of lights. The Gen2 has a redesigned body, along with the switch that operates the lights momentary on or constant on feature. Bear in mind these changes are to be implemented with four different systems the company has, the WML White, WMLx White, WML White/IR, WMLx White/IR. The “x” connotation is longer and takes up two 123A Lithium batteries than the non “x” version. Not included in this article but I’ve heard rumors of a variant of the WML with Keymod attachments instead of picatinny…

Book Review: Guns of the Special Forces 2001-2015

Guns of the Special Forces is a recent publication by Pen & Sword Press written by Leigh Neville, an Australian defense and military author. The book is inspired by Guns of the Elite written by George Markham, an in-depth look at the history and then current (1990s) usage of small arms by special operations units in the world. Neville is essentially bringing the SF narrative of small arms knowledge and development up to date, in an extremely well written, 244 page publication filled with excellent description, discussion, and amazing photographs. In fact, I think the photographs are some of the best to appear in print from this secretive community the world over. I’m very used to being awed and seeing a number of photographs from OIF/OEF of SF weapons, but even for me the book blew it out of the park with the selection of pictures.

Stop Worrying About Whether Your Gun Is "Viable" – Accepting Obsolescence in Your Arsenal

As we ride the shockwaves outward from the epicenter of the explosion which began in 2004 with the expiry of the Assault Weapons Ban, our community of gun owners has rapidly mutated from the set that characterized our parents’ and grandparents’ generations. Many good things have come out of this, including better gun safety practices, wider acceptance of different shooting styles and disciplines, and such a ubiquitous access to reliable information that shooters even a couple decades ago would weep with envy. However, at the same time I’ve seen one change that I’d rather go without: Along with acceptance of the new and different (which is good), it seems many of today’s gun owners have also adopted an insistence on the most and the best.
