Concealed Carry Corner: Great Concealed Carry Shooting Drills

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about overcoming flight or flight impulses like tunnel vision and auditory exclusion. If you missed that article, be sure to check it out by clicking on the link here. This week, I wanted to talk about something relatively important when it comes to carrying concealed. We oftentimes can get so much out of dry firing but working on those skills at home only do so much. It really takes getting out to the range to practice all the skills together to become proficient. Ammo prices are thankfully coming down so I figured I would add my absolute favorite drills at the moment when it comes to helping train concealed carriers. Let’s take a closer look at some great concealed carry shooting drills.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Mauser C78 Zig Zag

This week on Wheelgun Wednesday, we’ll be taking a look into German revolvers of the past with the Mauser C78 revolver.  The “1st model” C78s were solid frame guns, but shortly after their introduction, the vastly improved hinged frame “2nd models” came out.  The C78 “2nd model” was an 1878 German design by Gebrüder Mauser & Co, as Waffenfabrik Mauser didn’t exist until 1884.  The distinct features of the C78 series were the cam-track cylinder rotation system designed by Elisha Root coupled with a lever-release tip-up break-open frame.

Wheelgun Wednesday: The Korth Callahan Revolver

In today’s Wheelgun Wednesday we are taking a quick look at a new Korth revolver dubbed Callahan that was recently announced by Nighthawk Custom. As you might have guessed, it’s named after Clint Eastwood’s character inspector Harold Francis Callahan from the Dirty Harry series of movies. Being a Dirty Harry-themed wheelgun, the Korth Callahan is of course chambered in the Dirty Harry cartridge, the .44 Magnum. Well, inspector Callahan carried a Smith & Wesson Model 29, but this German revolver has a similar big magnum wheelgun vibe and will blow your head clean off just like the Smith and Wesson.

Welcome to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week we talked about some of the dangerous distractions we have to face on a daily basis when it comes to our phones. If you missed last week’s article and want to check it out, be sure to click the link here. When it comes to carrying and training, we can often get distracted by other styles of firearms as well as different action types if we decide to buy something new. It happens all the time, but what most don’t think about is the amount of proficiency lost due to switching around from one gun to another. I certainly know some of you are like me where you enjoy buying various action types and moving around from one system to another. This poses a few problems so let’s take a closer look at carrying and training with similar firearms.

This week on TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday, we’ll take a sneak peek at the brand-new Taurus 856 TORO revolver, which is an optics-ready revolver, driven with concealed carry and self-defense in mind. However, the TORO line has just been expanded to two of their small framed revolvers, the 856 and 605. Taurus was kind enough to lend me a copy of the model 856 TORO, which we’ll take a quick preview of today, with a full review coming in the near future.

Let’s take a closer look at dangerous distractions in our world.

Concealed Carry Corner: Important Ammo Choices

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, I took a look at various pistol types and talked about how reliable those systems are over time. If you missed last week’s article, I’ll leave a link to that article here so jump in there and let me know your thoughts. A reoccurring question I get fairly often is if I buy specific self-defense ammo for every carry gun or if I have a general round I use across the board. It’s an interesting discussion since there are some out there who believe self-defense ammunition isn’t necessary for a carry gun. Let’s take a closer look at the facts when it comes to important ammo choices.

Wheelgun Wednesday: H&R Auto Ejecting Revolver Review

At a local firearm auction last year, I acquired a Harrington & Richardson Auto Ejecting revolver chambered for the .32 S&W cartridge for the lowest winning bid of the day. Let’s see how this H&R Auto Ejecting top-break revolver fared on this week’s TFB Wheelgun Wednesday.

Concealed Carry Corner: Ammo Versus Accessories

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about some of the tips I wish I would have known sooner. To check out my article from last week be sure to check out the link here. When it comes to carrying concealed, there’s an interesting trend coming out where people criticize companies for not offering the most modern options on their new handguns. A new carry gun was released and I put it up on my social media pages to get everyone’s take on it. People were immediately upset about the lack of an optics cut or bottom accessory rail. It started getting me thinking about what’s important when it comes to concealed carry. Let’s take a closer look at what’s more important ammo versus accessories.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Zenk RZMK-357 Bullpup Revolver

Welcome back to Wheelgun Wednesday, a weekly articles series on The Firearm Blog where we discuss everything revolver: from historical to modern wheelguns, from prototype and experimental revolvers to custom-made and mass-produced ones, from conventional designs to the most unusual ones including bullpups. Yes, bullpups! For the lack of a better term, I’ll call the wheelgun we are taking a look at today a bullpup revolver. Designed by a company called Zenk LLC, the RZMK-357 revolver has a cylinder located behind the trigger which I guess makes it a bullpup. Interesting, isn’t it? Let’s take a closer look.

D&L Sports' New PRG Revolver Grips For S&W K, L, N Frames

Dave Lauck of D&L Sports recently announced a collaboration with Hogue Inc. in which they designed the PRG Revolver Grips, or Performance Revolver Grips for round butt Smith & Wesson revolvers. No doubt, you’ve already noticed the pronounced features of the PRG revolver grips with the scarcely seen beavertail covering the backstrap, which is there to aid in controlling recoil, as well as to help aid the shooter with naturally pointing the PRG-equipped revolvers. The contoured hand stop is also designed to assist in recoil management, and the butt also conceals a lanyard anchor. Mr. Lauck describes his D&L Sports G10, PRG Revolver Grips below.

Theodore Roosevelt Revolver Sells for Big Money

In the pantheon of larger-than-life characters from America’s Old West era, few loom larger than Theodore Roosevelt. Prior to his two terms as the 26th US President, from 1901 to 1909, Roosevelt discovered and embraced the Wild West lifestyle, establishing and operating a cattle ranch in North Dakota. In spite of his New York socialite roots, TR learned to cowboy, rope, ride, hunt, and more in the rough country around the Little Missouri river. These experiences served him well when he formed the first volunteer US Cavalry regiment, the Rough Riders, at the outset of the Spanish-American War in 1898. At this time, he was gifted a Smith & Wesson single-action revolver. Rock Island Auction recently sold this historic firearm at auction (along with numerous other interesting pieces), and as you might expect for such a storied gun, it fetched quite a sum – $910,625.
