Wheelgun Wednesday: Taurus 856 TORO Review – 1st Optics-Ready Revolver

Welcome to another edition of TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday! This week, we’ll take a detailed look at the Taurus 856 TORO revolver, which is an optics-ready model straight from the factory. The Taurus 856 was already a capable six-shot, small-frame revolver, but the optics-ready T.O.R.O. treatment adds more versatility for those that prefer red dots on their concealed carry weapon. As cool and trendy as red dot sights are on handguns, they can add a bit more complexity to set up, and we’ll take a look at the hiccup I had mating these two systems. Let’s dig in!

The Rimfire Report: The Five Most Affordable Rimfire Pistols Worth Buying

Welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its guns, history, ammunition, and shooting sports! Last week we talked about the key differences between 22WMR and 22LR and where each one shines and falls short. As an overall cartridge, 22LR leaves a lot to be desired in the accuracy and power departments but absolutely kills it in comparison to 22WMR when it comes to cost and versatility. Speaking of versatility, I like to be able to train on a budget with the ammunition that I have on hand – which a majority of is often 22LR. The world of rimfire firearms can be an expensive one, but rimfire handguns can also offer an affordable option for those on a budget. Rimfire cartridges are smaller and less powerful than centerfire cartridges, making them less expensive to produce and shoot and the guns are also often similarly less expensive but sometimes just as capable if your goal is training or just a fun afternoon at the range. So today, I’ll be lining up five of my favorite and most affordable rimfire pistols that are actually worth buying.

POTD: My Friend Knuckleduster Revolver

Most of the My Friend knuckleduster wheelguns produced by James Reid were pepperboxes of various sizes and calibers. However, there is a very rare version of this 19th-century concealed carry gat that was fitted with a 3-inch barrel, which makes it a revolver. This particular My Friend knuckleduster revolver is consigned to the upcoming May 2023 Rock Island Premier Firearms Auction. It is chambered in 32 Rimfire and because it has a barrel, its cylinder is shorter compared to the 32 caliber pepperbox My Friends.

The Rimfire Report: First Impressions from the New Ruger Super Wrangler

Hello and welcome to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is about the rimfire firearm world and its many types of firearms, shooting sports, ammunition, and history! Last week we had fellow writer Nic L fill in to talk about the Winchester Xpert rifle. While I personally haven’t had a whole lot of time with the rifle myself, I can say that I think its most significant selling point might simply be that it accepts commonly used, widely available, and relatively inexpensive Ruger 10/22 magazines. Speaking of Ruger, this week we’ll start diving into my first impressions of the recently released Super Wrangler. The Ruger Super Wrangler blends the affordability and ruggedness of the Wrangler series, with some of the features from the Single Six series of single-action revolvers to give customers a middle ground that might just cover all of their bases. So is the new Ruger Super Wrangler really adding something of value to Ruger’s single-action rimfire revolver line or was this move an unnecessary addition? Let’s find out!

The new for 2023 Taurus Raging Hunter 10 in, aka the Raging Hunter 10.5″ (its actual barrel length) is a massive 5-shot .460 S&W magnum chambered revolver that weighs nearly 4.5 lbs.  Like most other .460 S&W magnum chambered revolvers, it can handle .45 Colt and .454 Casull as well.  Unlike other .460 revolvers, however, the new Taurus is actually comfortable to shoot repeatedly in any caliber.  I daresay it’s the most impressive factory .460 revolver I’ve yet to shoot in that regard.

Henry Announces Big Boy Revolvers and .360 Buckhammer Rifles

Henry Repeating Arms is a bastion of lever-action guns, offering a slew of popular old-school repeaters hearkening back to the originals invented by their namesake more than a century and a half ago. Since the modern company’s founding in 1996, they have exclusively produced long guns and only rarely deviated from the lever-based format, excepting a handful of models foraying into single-shot/bolt/semi-auto/pump territory. They have never previously produced a handgun, but that’s all changing now. Wheelgun fans rejoice and meet the new Henry Big Boy Revolvers.

If you happen to miss that article, be sure to check out the link here. This week, I wanted to take a closer look at some of the things I carry every day when I wear shorts in the summer. Let’s take a closer look at some must-have items for summer carry.

The silver lining is the fact many companies have fixed this issue by adding capacity and adding weight to the frame making the handgun have a better balance in your hand. Let’s take a look at some of the major problems with lightweight pistols.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Red Dot Compatible Holsters From Speed Beez

Thanks for joining us for another TFB Wheelgun Wednesday, where we cover all topics that revolve around revolvers. Somehow, we seemed to have missed the advent of red dot compatible holsters from Speed Beez, until I stumbled upon Resputin’s Reddit thread, from which he gave us permission to use his photo you see above. Attaching red dot optics to pistols and revolvers isn’t exactly new, but finding holsters for revolvers equipped as such will still yield few results. What’s more, is that Speed Beez even has an option to cover the large red dot optics typically seen on Smith & Wesson’s TRR8 and R8 revolvers, while other options are geared towards the standard and micro-sized red dots.
