Wheelgun Wednesday: Battle of Barkeep vs Storekeeper vs Shopkeeper

Recently, Heritage Manufacturing Inc released an exciting yet petite-sized revolver in the Barkeep that we covered HERE. What few people do not realize is that the Barkeep is one wheelgun in a line of revolvers based off of a Colt Single-Action Army from the late 1800s. If you happened to be a business owner in the last 170 years (and love your wheelguns) there are 3 unique options you could have chosen, or still could choose, to protect your shop or store. Those include the recently debuted Heritage Manufacturing Barkeep, the original Colt “Storekeeper” SAA (Single-Action Army), and the Ruger “Shopkeeper” Bearcat.

Concealed Carry Corner: Different Guns For Different Uses

When taking a look at handguns for concealed carry, there are a few options most people will go towards. Most individuals will pick a semi-auto to carry daily and call it a day. Even though those are great options for the majority of situations, there are a number of places around the country where some may need different firearms to carry. This could range from big bore revolvers to smaller unique pistols that have a very specific purpose. This all started for me last week when my dad started carrying his Kahr Arms CM9 to protect himself against snakes and mountain lions. As a result, we ended up having a fairly lengthy conversation about what’s useful depending on where you’re at. Let’s dive into different guns for different uses in certain parts of the country.

Heritage Manufacturing BARKEEP Rimfire Revolvers

Heritage Manufacturing has added a new compact rimfire revolver to their line of small bore wheelguns. The new model is dubbed Barkeep. Let’s see what features the Heritage Manufacturing Barkeep revolver packs.

Wheelgun Wednesday: NEW Chiappa Charging Rhino Gen II 60DS 9mm

In this week’s Wheelgun Wednesday we will walk you down memory lane with a short synopsis of TFB’s coverage of the Chiappa Rhino over the past 11 years it has been in existence, and also cover Chiappa’s NEW Charging Rhino Gen II 60DS revolver chambered in 9mm. Chiappa Firearms and their lineup of Rhino revolvers are somewhat overlooked by the wheelgun community, but definitely not by TFB. This could be contributed to a series of factors from them having their one model – the Rhino –  being their lone prominent, claim-to-fame. It could also be due to potentially less advertising in the United States being an imported revolver. Nevertheless, TFB has 11 articles covering the Chiappa Rhino revolvers that you can review and are listed below:

Wheelgun Wednesday: Need For Speed with the .22 Jet

I was taking a break at a hunting base camp resupplying to go after elk after a hard week of hunting mule deer in deep snow, when the camp cook brought out a revolver to show us after dinner.  At first, I thought it was just a nice example of a 4-screw, 6″ barrel S&W N-Frame.  Then, he brought out the ammo for it, which was something I had not seen before: .22 Remington Jet.  I was looking at an S&W Model 53, one of the very few firearms ever chambered for this curious, bottlenecked .22 cartridge.

Concealed Carry Corner: Revolver vs Semi-Auto Debate

Most individuals who are relatively new to the concealed carry market will typically go the way of semi-autos and be done with it. There’s still a large group of individuals who carry a revolver on a regular basis, and I will admit I am usually one of those people. There are a few advantages to both along with a few things that each system has issues with, in their own ways. Let’s dive deeper into the great debate of Revolver vs Semi-Auto.

Wheelgun Wednesday: What Makes a Great Pest Control Revolver?

Revolvers can be deployed for a multitude of applications from self-defense, target shooting, hunting, and simply for the pure enjoyment of firing them. A smaller niche that some sportsmen/sportswomen might be shopping for is pest control. We are swiftly approaching the colder winter months where squirrels, mice, and even larger furry, nuisance-makers like beavers are getting to be really busy (and invasive). So, if you need to dispatch some intruders on your property, or ones that are attempting to burrow, gnaw, and/or ruin your house or shed… what do you want to look for? Let’s take a look at different attributes you should be eyeing if you are digging into your personal stash or contemplating a new purchase entirely.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: Steel and Wood Edition

OK, let’s start with an honest disclosure: I won’t get these guns for Christmas 2020, nor I will get any firearms, for that matter. However, this doesn’t mean I can’t dream. And since we’re just dreaming here, I will dream big and list a few “lifegoal” items with limited practicality, to me, yet extremely cool to my eyes.

Concealed Carry Corner: What Would Santa Carry?

Christmas is a wonderful time of year where families get together when there isn’t a world pandemic and have a great time celebrating everything they have in life. It’s also the time of year where the big jolly fat man slides down the chimney and leaves gifts for all the children of the world. For many, Santa is a beacon of hope and reason to work harder at being a better person but to others, he may look differently.

Wheelgun Wednesday: The Pros And Cons Of Moon Clips

Revolver moon clips have been in use for over 100 years now, so it’s certainly not a new concept, but they’ve become more common in recent years.  While moon clips were originally designed to hold rimless pistol cartridges, namely .45ACP, they’ve been produced for popular rimmed cartridges as well.  In today’s Wheelgun Wednesday, we’ll look at the pros and cons of using these simple, affordable, revolver reloading speed boosters.

Theodore Roosevelt's Colt Single Action Army Sold at Rock Island Auction

On October 14, 1912, Theodore Roosevelt was shot while giving a speech to a crowd in Milwaukee. In a move that secures his place in history as one of the most badass presidents of all time, he declined medical treatment. Instead, he finished his 90-minute speech, bloody shirt and all. Ten days prior to this event, a gift was sent to good ol’ Teddy for his 54th birthday. The gift was a factory engraved Colt Single Action Army revolver. Roosevelt’s Colt recently sold at December 2020 Rock Island Premier Firearms Auction which the company called “The Sale of the Century”.

Russian M1895 Nagant Carbine Chambered in 5.45x18mm

A Russian company called Test-Oruzhie (Тест-Оружие) has recently released an M1895 Nagant revolver-based carbine dubbed  Ten-7 (Тень-7, “Ten” means shadow). As you can see, they fitted the host Nagant revolver with a long barrel (or maybe a fake barrel extension to meet the law requirements) and what looks to be a FAB Defense Glock stock. Also, the revolver is rechambered to 5.45x18mm. Overall, this Nagant carbine looks like a gun from a post-apocalyptic video game.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Tornado Technologies Nagant Barrel Threading

If you joined us last week on Wheelgun Wednesday you already know that a Nagant M1895 7.62x38mmR revolver has joined my collection and I have promptly decided to have it sent off to a company to be threaded for a silencer. That company is Tornado Technologies who was suggested by a revolver loving friend of mine and also a TFB writer – Samuel Schaust. The fact that I had not heard of Tornado Technologies before only speaks to my personal ignorance and nothing of their lack of reputation. In fact, it is just the opposite.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Suppressed Revolver? Nagant M1895 Adventures

This week on Wheelgun Wednesday we discuss a rather perplexing and often misunderstood revolver in the Nagant M1895. Being the wheelgun addict that I am, when presented with the opportunity to buy one of these discontinued and old revolvers I jumped at the chance without seeing it. The equivalent would be like walking into your favorite gun shop and seeing a pallet of 9mm ammo with a sign that reads: “Free.” Like Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars taught us, it might be a trap, but we simply cannot help ourselves. So, before we jump into the shenanigans I am about to embark on, let’s take a look at the history and background of the Nagant M1895.

Wheelgun Wednesday: 5 Reasons Why Revolvers are the WORST

Last week we discussed 5 Reasons Why Revolvers are RAD! If you stop by to read our weekly Wheelgun Wednesday, you will likely agree that revolvers are pretty awesome, too. In this Wheelgun Wednesday though, we take a look at 5 Reasons Why Revolvers are the WORST as I play devil’s advocate to myself. While many of us love our 6-shooters and other wheelguns, they are not perfect just like anything else. There is the good, the bad, and ugly side to them (catch that wheelgun reference). So, let’s dive in and take a look at 5 Reasons Why Revolvers are the WORST!

Wheelgun Wednesday: 5 Reasons Why Revolvers are RAD

I am one of those millennial gun owners. Being on that fringe of 33 years old I like to align myself with modern technologies and a taste of the old school as well. If you looked into my gun safe you would see a pretty even collection of modern or polymer, semi-auto handguns as well as a robust collection of wheelguns. So, that begs the question… Which are better? To answer that question, I would further press someone as to what they are using their handgun for? At what distance? And what are we taking down? Is it paper targets, squirrels, or grizzly bears? To frame the question helps us answer it. Regardless of the scenario or clawed combatant, in this week’s Wheelgun Wednesday I will offer up 5 Reasons Why Revolvers are RAD, and why they should not be overlooked as outdated, too old, or not viable in the 21st century. Let’s dive in!

Wheelgun Wednesday: Hunting Revolvers and Considerations to Take

We can see the changes already happening around us. The air is more crisp every morning, the leaves are beginning to turn colors, and fall hunting seasons are opening up everywhere. For most people, whether they are hunting something small like squirrels or even huge game in North America like moose, they are reaching for a long gun of some sort to accomplish their hunt – a shotgun or rifle. In some instances, it can be fun to challenge ourselves and use a handgun depending on the game we are in pursuit of. So, in this Wheelgun Wednesday, we take a look at some of the things that you should consider when you decide hunting revolvers might be your next firearm for big game hunting. Let’s dive in!

Wheelgun Wednesday: Cautionary Tale of a Collectible Colt DA 38

When it comes to adding revolvers to my personal collection, like many other wheelgun aficionados, I tend to purchase a lot of old revolvers. Reason being, if you stumble across a specific make and model no longer in circulation, there is no guarantee that you will ever see one like it again. So, I venture to a lot of local gun shows perusing the aisles looking to unearth unlikely treasures less keen eyes may have overlooked. Sometimes though you do not want to be so full of yourself that you pervert reality in your mind to believe you have something you really do not. There are a lot of fakes and scam revolvers out there. People will put age-appropriate grips on a revolver (that are not original) to get a wheelgun to look like something else; to get an unsuspecting fool to pay them more money. In this week’s Wheelgun Wednesday, we will discuss a semi-collectible Colt DA 38 that was recently offered to me, but was not true-to-form.
