I had a chance to play with the prototype of this gadget at SHOT Show 2019 and was really impressed with its simplicity and functionality. TFB Review: ANVL Ukon RMR Mount

When I decided to pick up a SIG Sauer MCX Rattler back last year, I really struggled to figure out exactly what I wanted to put on as an optic. So I started looking at various Aimpoint and Trijicon optics to see what I liked. After searching around I decided to go with an RMR because it was low profile and quick to pick up with your iron sights. Plus another great thing about RMR’s is the fact they are tough as nails.

TFB LIGHTNING REVIEW: Strike Industries UDC – Ultimate Dust Cover

In terms of parts of the AR15 platform, is there anything more seemingly trivial than the ejection port cover? Even the flappy little trigger guard protects, well, the all-important-trigger. Heck, I would be willing to bet that most of you rarely, if ever, stretch that trigger finger up between strings of fire and close that little slice of aluminum that keeps debris out of your action. So I’m not going to stand up here (I’m actually sitting right now) and preach to you all about how the Strike Industries UDC – Ultimate Dust Cover – is the hottest new AR15 accessory to hit the market. Yet, it’s still a neat little piece of kit that is worth the under $20 price of admission.

Steel VS Polymer AR Magazines. What's More Reliable?

With the market flooded in AR magazines, there’s been the age-old rivalry between metal magazines and polymer magazines. Often there are debates between people on which style magazine they prefer and give a number of reasons. There are also companies who make hybrid magazines which use both metal and polymer features. So what do you buy? I’ll break it down and give my perspective on the debate.

The Most Iconic 300 Blackout: Q's Honey Badger

The Honey Badger is probably one of the most iconic firearms of the day. So much so that it has even infiltrated video games and can be found in Call of Duty. But what is it? It is the original 300 Blackout PDW (Personal Defense Weapon). Though in fairness, it was designed originally for a purely offensive role…

Unusual AR-15 Barrel Extension Failure

When it comes to the failures of the AR-15 locking mechanism, you normally see the failure of the bolt. I bet you have seen bolts with one or two or as much as all seven locking lugs sheared. In this article, we’ll take a look at something different – a rather rare barrel extension failure.

Vehicle Based Weapons – The Thinking Behind Truck Guns

In the last few years, there has been an increase in the number of people who carry “truck guns” or vehicle-based guns in everyday life. It can be tricky navigating certain laws when it comes to truck guns but we won’t get into the legality. Maybe I’ll dive deeper into the legality in a later blog, but for now, let’s focus on the overall concept.

Ask The Experts: Subsonic Or Supersonic 300 Blackout Ammo Against Threats?

When we last left you, the discussion of choosing either subsonic or supersonic ammo for your 300BLK defensive weapon was in a full-on firefight. Some of you stated that you would pick heavier and quieter rounds to preserve situational awareness and communication abilities. Others chose faster and lighter rounds because “it’s a rifle, not a pistol”. And a small percentage of you claimed that using a 300BLK AR15 in a life or death situation was nothing more than a mall ninja’s wet dream. An argument for another day…

SB Tactical FS 1913 Pistol Brace Review

SB Tactical is one of those innovative and forward-thinking companies around the gun industry in my opinion. They have given the consumer market a lot of choices when it comes to pistol builds with their AR pistol braces. Now don’t get me wrong, not everything SB Tactical makes is crazy innovative, but overall the level of quality they offer is extremely high.

[Big 3 East] CT Legal Troy Firearm Identifies As "Other"

Almost a year ago, Connecticut FFL The Freedom Shoppe got hung up on making firearms with folding braces. Read all about it here. Due to this issue I learned that Connecticut allows for a sort of loophole firearm. It doesn’t have a stock so it can’t be a rifle. And it has a vertical grip with a barrel longer than 12″ so it can’t be a pistol. So it will be classified as “Other Firearm”. Well did you know Troy is the first to make a factory Troy firearm just for this classification?

POTD: Brazilian Federal Police with Bushmaster XM15-E2S

The recent arrest of Brazil’s former President Michel Temer on corruption charges – for the record, he was released some days later- by DPF – Departamento de Polícia Federal (Federal Police Department), while being driven from his home in São Paulo, was a quick opportunity to see one of the weapons in the inventory of the local feds. The agent seen in the sole picture made public is holding a 5.56x45mm Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle fitted with an EOTech EXPS3 holographic red dot sight and its correspondent 3X magnifier. Reader's Choice BEST AR-15: POF P415 Edge 5.56 NATO

This was one of the most interesting Reader’s Choice polls we have conducted thus far! The voting results we received were close, but simultaneously the victor won by a landslide. The diversity of suggestions from you, our beloved readers, was very impressive as well. The thing that was consistent across the board is the caliber: 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem. We did state that you could suggest any caliber you want in an AR-15 platform if you had a good argument to back it, but no one even made an honest attempt. Clearly, the 5.56 NATO is your #1 cartridge and is not going anywhere (which is a surprise to nobody). How about some results though?! Your WINNER for March’s poll of Reader’s Choice BEST AR-15 is the POF P415 Edge 5.56 NATO!!! The full results from the voting can be read below:

Most Unusual Illegal Weapons Seizure in Rio de Janeiro

Following a particularly long (about one year) investigation on the assassination of a Rio de Janeiro city counselor and her driver, civil police agents recently came up with the arrest of two suspects of having committed the crime. Complementary investigative work quickly led to a search in the house of a person closely connected to one of them, where a very large number of boxed AR-type rifle components were found hidden in closets. The confiscated material would reportedly be enough for the assembly of 117 rifles, but not a single barrel was located. At first, it was believed that the destination of the stored items would be the assembly of airsoft ARs, but that was not the case.

Sons Of Liberty Gun Works Launch AR15s Into Space

Anyone following Sons Of Liberty Gun Works might be aware that they had recently made hits on a target two miles away.  Well, they’ve since aimed a lot farther, using a 90-degree vertical hold-over.  The Sons Of Liberty Gun Works crew posted a video on their Instagram account of a privately launched rocket containing two AR 15s, with the stated goal of putting the first American firearms in space.  If the Sons Of Liberty rocket actually reached their goal, to my knowledge, it would be the first instance of American made firearms in space.  I am unaware of any other attempts to send unmanned rifles into space.

Featured Deals of the Week – 2/22/19

In light of some of the unfortunate stories about flying with firearms, this week I’m including this Apache case. It is a hard-shell watertight case, perfect for transporting “specialized equipment” as the manufacturer puts it. Its exterior dimensions are 16.5″ x 6.75″ x 13″. Consequently, its interior dimensions are 14-7/8″ x 6-1/8 x 10-5/8″. The case is pre-drilled for two padlocks, which are the parts that should be TSA approved if you want to fly with this.
