(Finally) Shipping Now: Magpul Hunter Amercian Stock

It has been said that perfect can be the enemy done, and for owners of Ruger American Centerfire rifles this may have felt like the case with Magpul’s newest Hunter stock.  Personally, I have been waiting excitedly since May 2017 for the Hunter American Stock to be made available.  Here is a link to the original TFB posting (  https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/05/09/magpuls-recent-product-commercials/ ) Originally Magpul had stated it would be ready in the Fall of 2017.  That time came and went and the stocks were still no where to be found.  When I checked Magpul website I saw the time-frame had been pushed back.  As it turns out Ruger was making some changes to their American Rifles and Magpul wanted to make sure “what works for one works for all.”  Well they have done it and the American Hunter Stocks are finally shipping.

My Thoughts on the Full Conceal Folding Glock

Full Conceal. This is a discussion I’ve been trying to avoid. I don’t like commenting about, reviewing, endorsing, or condemning controversial products unless I feel very strongly about them. No good comes from it because if you have a positive opinion, you must have been paid for it. If you have a negative opinion, you simultaneously become a part of the cool kids echo chamber crapping on the product du jour while pissing off everyone who likes the product.* So, if it’s a novelty, I’ll usually slide past it and let everyone else get in the internet barfight over it because it’s a lose-lose for me.

Guns vs. Bears 2: Glock or .44 Magnum for Grizzly?

In this sequel to “Bears versus Guns”, James revisits his earlier decision to carry a .44 magnum as a grizzly bear defense sidearm in Alaska. This was based, in part, on user comments; after a number of commenters asked James to consider 10mm in the last video, James did additional research on the 10mm handgun as a carry gun in Bear Country. On one hand, 10mm is only about two-thirds as powerful as .44 Magnum, but on the other, the Glock 20SF supplies 16 rounds of 10mm power compared to five or six rounds as in most .44 revolvers. James walks you through his thought process and tells you which gun he selected for camping in the wilderness.

Local firearm fabrication in Nigeria.

Nigeria has laws that restrict ownership of firearms to citizens being barely able to purchase and possess pump-action shotguns at the most, and single or double barrel shotguns generally. Aspiring gun owners need to be over 35 years of age, and al$o ‘qualify’ for the necessary licenses. [No error in the last sentence!] Licenses may only be approved by the President of the Federation [!] though this authority is delegated to 36 State Commissioners of Police.

Bartocci's Back (on YouTube) with a Look at Enhanced AR15 BCGs

Many of you may have seen me reference Chris Bartocci before in videos and articles (like in the recent Guns of SOCOM: Mk18 Video) or even seen Chris on TFBTV before (he cameos in the Glock 18 Mini-Documentary). Chris is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable AR-15 gurus out there, thanks in no small part to his consulting work for Colt and LMT. I have a great deal of respect for Bartocci and any time I do an AR-15 review, I try to consult one of his numerous publications on the subject to reinforce my content.

TFB Review: Boyd's At-One Adjustable Gun Stock for the Remington 870

Does your rifle’s stock more closely resemble drift wood than walnut? Is your shotgun looking “battle worn” after lending it to someone? While most people make their best efforts to maintain their firearms there is always inevitable wear, tear and aging that occurs. For that reason, aftermarket stocks can be found for nearly all firearms. Whether they are a classical reproduction of the original or something more modern, there are many companies that tailor to that segment and need of the shooting market. Today, we will examine one company that has carved out a foothold in this area by reviewing the Boyd’s At-One Adjustable Gun Stock for the Remington 870.

Las Vegas PD police chase and shooting – what can we learn from it?

We’ve all seen this video or at least a short version of it. The facts of the story are very straightforward – two convicted felons with lengthy criminal history committed a murder and were trying to get away from police in the stolen Ford Expedition SUV. During the chase, they fired 34 rounds at police officers and hit the police vehicle at least 5 times.

[TriggrCon 2018] Accessories Part 2

Yes, going to Triggercon, and we were not allowed to bring anything with triggers! Also no sharp pointy things either. Oh well, it was a good turnout of both exhibitors and media and other firearms industry folks. Here are some more products I would like to mention.

TFB Review: Franklin Armory BFSIII Trigger for B&T APC45

Installation of the B&T APC45 trigger would have been a real pain in the rear had it not been for the detailed instructions provided by TFB’s editor Pete in his review off the same trigger for the APC9.  Not only are the instructions hard to follow, there are errors in the diagrams!  Specifically the diagram mixes up the trigger and hammer pins.  For a layman attempting to install this at home, this could result in the wrong length pin supporting each assembly.  Not good.  Furthermore, I discovered that someone at Franklin installed the selector switches on the wrong side of the selector drum at the factory (leading to some confusion until I figured out their error).  Nevertheless, after 1/2 an hour of muddling through the installation I was successful in the install.

Crime Weapons Galore: These Didn't Make it to Destination

In addition to the many firearms often falling into police hands subsequent to actual confrontations with criminals in Brazil, many weapons are seized on the way to their final, unlawful destinations. Much of this is credited to the PRF – Polícia Rodoviária Federal (Federal Highway Police), mainly along routes coming from bordering countries (e.g., Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina) from which a lot of this illegal stuff come. As you probably know, contraband/smuggling statistics generally reveal that only very small percentages of those are actually seized. What follows, then, is just an overview of recent confiscations so that you may get a general idea of the problems we have here.

A South-African Designed, Gas-Delayed Wilson Combat?

Up until Wilson Combat starting dabbling in Glocks and Beretta’s it was known as the bastion of all things John Moses Browning and .45ACP.  There was, however, a little-known polymer frame 9mm already upgraded by Wilson:  The ADP.  Originally designed by Alex Du Plessis in the early 90’s for South African Arms company Aserma (of revolving shotgun fame), The ADP was a bit ahead of its time in being a slim, gas-delayed ultracompact 9mm pistol.  Imagine if the Glock 43 had the gas delay of the HK P7 series.  That is in essence the ADP.  The concept itself is wonderful, but sadly like many other firearms, the execution was lacking.  Quality control from Heritage Arms, the original US based importer of these pistols, was lacking enough to give the ADP a bad reputation amongst consumers of the ADP when it was branded as the “Heritage Stealth.”  The most common complaint was reliability of the .40 caliber versions, as well as terrible materials and finishes.

Rock Chuck Bullet Swage – RCBS Celebrates their 75th Anniversary

Most grand endeavors come from humble beginnings and RCBS would be no different. They did not get their start in a garage like many tech companies from Silicon Valley and California, but it is pretty close. RCBS got their start in a small 72 square foot room (12’ x 6’) in the back of a laundromat. Hailing from Oroville, California on the heels of the attack on Pearl Harbor there was not much in the way of bullet-making materials at this time. The founder of RCBS, Fred T. Huntington, looked to change that.
