POTD: 2021 Danish International Sniper Competition
TFB will be running several Photo Of The Days from the 2021 Danish International Sniper Competition. These competitions are a great source of information about which types of firearms various countries and armies use, and how they use them. There’s also a lot of other gear to admire. These photos come from the 2. Brigade in Denmark.
POTD: Polish Snipers in PRS Inspired Competition
Precision Rifle Series (PRS) can best be described as a mixture between long-range and precision rifle shooting and practical shooting. TFB recently reported about the plans for a Precision Rifle World Championships in 2022, and hopefully, it will happen.
POTD: Arctic Warfare Training with Korps Mariniers
Photo Of The Day and we have some of the coolest pictures in a while available. We’re looking at Dutch snipers of the 1st Marine Combat Group as they conduct arctic warfare training in the beautiful mountains of Norway.
POTD: Sniper Mission – Visit, Board, Search and Seizure
Photo Of The Day – We have Marine snipers with the Scout Sniper Platoon, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), as they provide overwatch during a Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) mission. The snipers are aboard USS New Orleans (LPD 18) in the Philippine Sea, during January of this year, and as you can see they’re using a mixture of bolt action and semi-automatic sniper rifles. Can you name all of them?
POTD: Polish Sniper Teams with Sako TRGs
The TRG M10 is a bolt-action sniper rifle that is available in multiple calibers, manually operated and shoulder-fired, as well as magazine-fed. It has a high-capacity magazine and fully adjustable stock that make it a multi-functional system in a single weapon, suitable for many different circumstances.
POTD: Royal Marines Snipers with L115A3 Long Range Rifle
Photo Of The Day – We look at what we think is a Royal Marines sniper with his L115A3 Long Range Rifle on Dartmoor’s training area. It seems there is quite a lot of undergrowth on this range, a perfect place to hide for a sniper.
POTD: Belizean Sniper in Stalking Event
We don’t visit the Dominican Republic too often here at The Firearm Blog, yet here we are in Santo Domingo looking at snipers doing their best to avoid us. Above you see a Belizean sniper as he aims downrange to acquire a target. He was taking part in a Sniper Stalking event at Fuerzas Comando. This happened some time ago, in 2010, and the event included teams devised of snipers and observers that set off to find a target while remaining concealed from visual sight.
POTD: Indian Army Snipers Train with US Army
Last month during the US India Yudh Abhyas 19 training exercise Indian Army snipers had an opportunity to get acquainted with the US Army’s M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle. The exercise took place at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, in Washington State, aiming to strengthen the relationship and improve combined interoperability between US INDO-PACOM Land Component Forces and the Indian Army.
POTD: Spanish Army G36 DMR
Today’s POTD is pretty interesting, we have a member of Spain’s Special Operations Forces armed with a Heckler & Koch G36, in an intriguing configuration. The SOF Operator’s G36KE appears to be set up in a Designated Marksman role with an added cheek riser fixed to the folding stock, a shortened (possibly 15 or 20 round) magazine and an adjustable power scope. I can’t make out the make or model, can you? If so let us know in the comments. The rifle is topped off with a custom digital camouflage paint job. His sidearm appears to be a Heckler & Koch USP, the Spanish Army’s standard issue pistol.
Weapons of Russian Snipers Seen During a Live Fire Exercise
While doing a research for another article I came across a set of photos taken during live firing exercises of Russian Ground Forces’ snipers in Alabino proving grounds. Reportedly, the images are taken in December 2017. Let’s take a look at them and discuss the most interesting aspects.
Iraq Loses Two Valued Snipers in the fight against IS
In the recent battle of Hawija, in northern Iraq, Iraqi security forces and Paramilitary forces lost two marksmen in the fight against the so-called Islamic State. Both of these snipers were very effective in the counter insurgency war that Iraq has been waging for the previous several years, and their loss is being expressed all over Iraqi social media. Both were killed within days of the other. Both of these snipers had a fair amount of success on the battlefield, but due to their enormous presence on social media, it might be argued that this appearance is almost as useful as any battlefield victory in lifting the spirit of the security forces and PMU fighters that are continuing the fight against the insurgency.
Ukrainian Special Forces Precision Rifle Competition
Competing elements of the Ukrainian Special Operations Command came together recently to participate in a skill of arms testing precision rifle capabilities, teamwork, handgun marksmanship, care under fire, among numerous other skill sets often required by sniper teams in combat. Due to the diversity of uniforms, weapons, and equipment, it appears that each two man sniper team might have come from a different Ukrainian Special Operations unit. According to Wikipedia there are five such ground regiments (SoF regiment, not conventional) and one Naval regiment currently active in the Ukraine.
