For the first time, we have Ríkislögreglan or the National Icelandic Police in our Photo Of The Day. They’re using the SIG Sauer MCX in these images, with Aimpoint red dots and magnifiers. Icelandic police officers typically carry only extendable batons and pepper spray while on duty. Most patrol vehicles are however equipped with firearms, and the officers are trained on how to use them.

Here we can see them in a training evolution at the H-2 radar site during the Northern Viking 24 exercise at the Langanes Station, Iceland, 2024.

“Northern Viking strengthens interoperability and force readiness between the U.S., Iceland and Allied nations, enabling multi-domain command and control of joint and coalition forces in the defense of Iceland and sea lines of communication in the Greenland, Iceland, United Kingdom (GIUK) gap.”
“A member from the National Icelandic Police prepares to embark on a C-146A Wolfhound attached to the 859th Special Operations Squadron from Duke Field Florida, in preparation for a training evolution during Northern Viking 24 (NV24).”
