The Rimfire Report: Field Review of the Savage A22 Precision Rifle

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and all of its cool ammunition, competitions, and firearms. This week I’ll be covering a rifle I had never run into before until several weeks ago during a TFB event in Texas that was made possible by Crimson Trace and ATN Corp. During our trip out to Texas, we had the chance to do a lot of great shooting – rimfire shooting included. I had a chance to test out several of my rimfire review guns including the new H&K MP5 pistol and rifle, and I even had a chance to run some sweet ATN and Crimson Trace optics on my personally owned Ruger Precision Rimfire. However, aside from all of these, one of the more interesting guns I got my hands on was the Savage A22 Precision rifle. The word “precision” doesn’t really come into my mind when it comes to semi-auto rimfire rifles but I had the equipment and ammo there so I decided to put the rifle to the test.

TFB Review: Bianchi P.I. Holster- S&W 36, 112 More Gun Models Accommodated

Bianchi has been in the holster making business since the 1970s, and they’re known for their quality leather and nylon holsters. Bianchi just changed their logo and launched a new website, and to highlight that fact, they offered us a chance to test out a few different models, of which I chose the Bianchi P.I. holster for my Smith & Wesson Model 36 J-Frame in .38 Special. Even though this review will feature the holster made for a J-Frame revolver, the readership will be glad to know that the Bianchi P.I. holster can be made for 112 different handguns, including semi-autos, between 11 popular firearms manufacturers.

TFB Review: Bourne Precision Fury AR-15/AR-10 Charging Handle

When it comes to hunting and shooting modern sporting rifles (commonly referred to as AR-15/AR-10 rifles) most of the essential components that make up these firearms are merely an after-thought. That is, unless they fail you. If shooters allow their rifle to get too dirty or they are “too cheap” when it comes to purchasing ammunition, one failure they can realize is rounds getting stuck in a chamber. A reliable charging handle can often remedy that though. Likewise, if your optic takes up too large of a footprint on the top of your receiver, a well-designed charging handle can allow you to still safely and effectively manipulate your rifle. So, it is no wonder that aftermarket companies like Bourne Precision look to so deliberately craft charging handles like the Fury they offer. Today, we are going to see how the Bourne Precision Fury AR-15/AR-10 Charging Handle stacks up in some testing out at a flat range as well as out of a helicopter! Let’s dive in.

The Rimfire Report: H&K .22LR MP5 Pistol and Rifle Review

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all bout the rimfire firearm world and its various arms, ammunition, and practices. This week we’re talking about the recently released H&K .22LR MP5 pistol and rifle. Both of the new guns are something that customers have been wishing to see from the German arms manufacturer and now they have it albeit not directly from H&K but under license through Umarex. H&K sent us a pair of guns to test out and review and today I’ll share with you my experiences with both the pistol and rifle variants to give you a solid idea of if you might want to pick up one of these new .22LR MP5 guns since they should now be showing up on gun store shelves and online.

TFB Review: Meopta Meopro Optika6 1-6×24 RD FFP LPVO Riflescope

Review of the Meopta Meopro Optika6 1-6×24 RD First Focal Plane riflescope with the MRAD reticle. Sometimes reviews take months to prepare, sometimes they just appear by pure chance. This is a case of the latter. As I visited a dealer, he showed me the scope in question, and he had my attention straight away.

Hands-On: Crimson Trace Hardline Pro 6-24×50 FFP MIL ILL Scope

Down in Refugio, Texas at Bridle Iron South Training Facility the crew of TFB and TFBTV were onsite to try out some ATN and Crimson Trace products. Like many of you, I only know of Crimson Trace from their history of laser systems. Well, they are making traditional scopes and one of them piqued my interest – the Crimson Trace Hardline Pro 6-24×50 first focal plane with MILS reticle and illumination.

TFB Review: SIG Sauer P320 XCarry Legion Pistol

SIG Sauer has continued to gradually expand the capabilities of their popular P320 platform over the years and this has culminated in a pistol that has something for just about everyone. The SIG Sauer XCarry Legion pistol combines a compact-sized frame, a threaded barrel, and a tungsten-infused grip. What does the package offer though and who is it marketed or made for? With so many different types of features added to the pistol, I had to find out for myself and today I’ll share my thoughts and feelings on the SIG XCarry Legion pistol as I’ve experienced them over the last couple of months.

TFB Review: Crimson Trace Hardline 2-7×32 BDC-Blackout

At a recent event, I had the opportunity to try out the Crimson Trace Hardline 2-7×32 scope with BDC for 300 Blackout. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to run it long-term (the event was only a couple of days). Due to the stupid ammo shortages, I could only spare a couple hundred rounds of 300 Blackout (supersonic) since we had to bring our own ammo. The struggle is real, my friends…

TFB Review: AXIL GS Extreme Bluetooth Earbuds

A little while back, I had the opportunity to test out some of AXIL’s electronic ear protection. The particular model I was able to review was the ultra-lightweight, ultra-low-profile, hearing-aid battery-powered GS Digital 1 earplugs. While I still enjoy and use these earplugs to this day for all the qualities I mentioned in the review, I think I have a new favorite pair of low-profile ear protection that isn’t a pair of earmuffs. While out at a TFB event in Southeast Texas, the TFB crew and I had a chance to test out the AXIL GS Extreme Ear Buds. Many of you were put off by the price and lack of a rechargeable battery for the GS Digital 1 earplugs and I think the GS Extreme Earbuds will offer you everything you were after with the GS Digital 1’s but with a slightly larger package and with more features.

TFB Review: Swiss-Made Phoenix AG Redback Ultralight Pistol

An opportunity was offered to us by Sportsman’s Loft/TAI Imports to check out a Phoenix Redback pistol. I volunteered since I am aware of CZ style pistols but have not spent much time behind one. The Sportsman’s Loft sent in a Phoenix AG Redback Ultralight. Let’s dive into this Swiss-made competition pistol.

TFB Review: Genesis Arms Gen-12 – The 12ga AR-10

An AR-pattern firearm that shoots shotshells is sort of a holy grail for some. Many try making it but there is always some drawback or compromise. ATI had their Omni chambered in .410ga. But the true goal is an AR platform that shoots 12ga. Genesis Arms has achieved that goal with their Gen-12. They lent us a 10.5″ firearm version for this review.

TFB Review: SIG Sauer TANGO6T 1-6x24mm LPVO

Over the last half-decade, Low-Power Variable Optics (LPVO) have exploded in popularity. Although the ever-popular red dot and magnifier combo still remains popular and perhaps a favorite for many, there is no disputing the LPVO platform has many advantages and unique capabilities and applications with regards to shooting. SIG Sauer invited me out in November of 2020 to tour their facility in Oregon and during my time there I was able to get a look at their full lineup of electro-optics including the yet-to-be-released TANGO6T LPVO. Since then, I’ve been rigorously testing my TANGO6T as well as a few other TANGO6T models I’ve encountered out in the wild, and today I’ll share with you my experiences with the relatively new contender to the LPVO market.

The Rimfire Report: Fletcher Rifle Works 11/22 OpenTop Receiver Review

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! I’ve got great news for rimfire enthusiasts: It’s finally here! The OpenTop 11/22 receiver. Those that have followed Sebastian for a couple of years will know that he’s poured his blood, sweat, and probably tears into this project and it has finally come to fruition. For those that don’t know, the OpenTop 11/22 receiver was a project started by Sebastian Unger back in 2017 in his uncle’s garage near Vienna, Austria. The project basically sought out to take the 10/22 design and modernize it to include an integrated Picatinny rail and best of all, allow for easier cleaning of the rifle without complete removal from the stock and the trigger pack.

TFB Review: Langdon Beretta 92 Drop-In Red Dot Slide

Beretta owners rejoice! Ernest Langdon at Langdon Tactical has provided a solution to a problem many 92 owners face, namely, proper mounting of optics.  For years the solution has been dovetail mounted plates but those faced the problem of sitting far too high above the bore and looking out of place on any handgun. Thankfully Beretta God Ernest Langdon has provided a solution. For years Langdon has been providing upgrades to 92 series pistols and even working with Beretta themselves to make the Elite series of pistols. Langdon’s skill is so legendary that when Wilson Combat decided to start making 92s, they called him to train their staff. So leave it to him to solve one of the Berettas most annoying problems.

TFB Review: Crimson Trace Brushline Pro 2-7×32 BDC-Rimfire Scope

A recent trip that the TFB crew took out to Southeast Texas involved a lot of optics. Thanks to a sponsorship by both ATN Corp and Crimson Trace, the TFB crew was able to mount a bunch of different optics, light, and laser options on a variety of rifles and pistols to test out and get the full experience of the lineup of products the two companies had to offer. Most of you here know that I’m very interested in rimfire firearms and products and one item that immediately stood out to me was the Crimson Trace Brushline Pro BDC-Rimfire optic. This tiny 2-7×32 variable power optic didn’t seem too impressive to me at first since I am used to running much larger 56mm objective lens optics but after a couple of days of tinkering around with the optic, I think there is a case to be made for this being used on a large variety of different rimfire firearms if you’re looking for a budget mid-range power rimfire scope.

TFB Review: The Competition-Minded Heckler & Koch VP9 Match

I’ve been shooting competitively for a couple years now. I haven’t taken it too seriously and the number of matches I’ve attended is still in the single digits. In all of those competitions, I’ve shot my mostly stock third-generation Glock 19. The pistol is a workhorse but is by no means aimed at competitive shooters. I always wanted to get my hands on a pistol that had competition in mind from the get-go. I saw people running tricked-out guns that cost more than my car. That clearly wasn’t for me. So, what options did I have? Not many. Heckler & Koch isn’t exactly known for affordable pistols, but that changed with the VP9. Now, in its more competition-driven configuration, the H&K VP9 Match gives shooters like me a chance at that race gun we always wanted, without needing the second mortgage.

TFB Review: Boyds AT-ONE Laminate Adjustable Rifle Stock

The folks over at Boyds Gunstocks are in the business of refreshing the old and bringing in the new. Boyds laminate gunstocks are in my opinion some of the best aftermarket wood stocks that you can get for the money and they recently sent me over one of their AT-ONE rifle stocks. The Boyds AT-ONE series of stocks is meant to take your old bolt action rifle and breathe new life into it and I personally think the Boys AT-ONE adds a lot of functionality to an otherwise unimpressive and old rifle. For this review, I used an entry-level Remington 770 chambered in .270 Winchester – a popular hunting cartridge down here in the south. Today we’ll go over some of the features of the AT-ONE stock, my experiences with installing it, and how it adds to the value of an otherwise budget-minded hunting rifle and turns it into something more functional for only a couple hundred dollars.

TFB Review: The Mantis X3 Shooting Performance System

Last year was a doozy. It seemed that overnight, not only were individual rights disappearing, but so were guns and ammo. Finding 9mm was and still is nearly impossible. When you do find ammo, even steel-cased FMJ is still going for 50 cents per round. We’re all aware that dry fire is a valuable tool for staying familiar with your platform, but there are also options that can give you more value with every press of the trigger. The Mantis X3 Shooting Performance System is one of those options.

TFB Review: Sharps Xtreme Performance Bolt Carrier Group

Using patented technology, the Sharps Xtreme Performance Bolt (XPB) aims to improve your AR-15’s overall reliability under hard use. This isn’t just another mil-spec bolt carrier group (BCG).  Patented asymmetric bolt lugs are designed to cut through heavy fouling, and the XPB’s parts are all made from S7 tool steel. In order to see how tough the XPB really was, I dreamed up a steel-cased torture test, and Sharps Rifle Company kindly sent a couple versions of the XPB over for review.

TFB Review: Type A CQBR Block II

For the last two years, the gun industry has been a tough place to navigate. Between material shortages and panic buying, certain firearms have been difficult or even impossible to find. Luke C reported earlier this year about the CQBR Block II being released and I have been waiting patiently for about 7 months for this AR pistol. After the weight and price, was it worth it? Let’s take a look at the Type A CQBR Block II.
