TorkMag showed off a few new products at the 2017 SHOT Show. They debuted a new 20 round Glock magazine as well as a conversion kit for the AR-15 that allows you to use Glock mags. If you don’t remember TorkMag, a few years back Patrick R did a review of the Torkmag-50 where it came apart during the review. TorkMag redeemed themselves in our second chance review when they improved upon their design from a two piece mold (which split) to a one piece mold and the mag functioned reliably.

Long range shooting is a sport that requires a lot of gear. Long range shooters try to consolidate their gear as much as possible. One item that caught my attention at the 2017 SHOT Show was the new 55 inch Deluxe Shooters Mat from Galati Gear. Not only is the Deluxe Shooters Mat a shooting mat, it is also a padded rifle case.

Operation Solutions International is a company in the United States that is bringing in an interesting take on magazine carriers with a single point of entry and insert. The working concept has been around for a year or more, but with  OSI’s involvement in bringing the product to the United States has just now begun. Currently the company could only show the Gen One version in time for SHOT, as the Gen Two couldn’t make it in time for the show.

I feel very excited about the new Tikka rifle. So excited I have applied for a license (a must where I live), and since I already own a few .308 Win I went for a 6,5 Creedmoor this time.

In this episode of TFBTV’s continuing SHOT coverage, James meets up with the guys at Franklin Armory to discuss their new binary trigger systems for the Bushmaster ACR and the HK 5x/9x series of rifles and carbines. If you noticed the green barrels in the FLIR video: we did too! We took Edward O and the camera crew over to the Falkor booth to learn about their new Dracos straight jacket barrel sleeve system. This barrel uses a composite sleeve as a heat sink to maintain accuracy even after thousands of high temperature rounds. 300 Win Mag and 300 Norma are usually considered barrel-burners, but Falkor guarantees the Dracos system for life.

During the 2017 SHOT Show, Lucid premiered their new C3 Weapons light. The Lucid C3 Weapons Light is a 300 lumen weapon light that is designed for use on a carbine rifle. The light housing is made of 6061 aluminum, and has an IPX8 waterproof rating. The Lucid C3 runs on 3 AAA batteries and has a run-time of 3 hours. These tough little lights are backed with a limited lifetime warranty.

Safe Shoot is an Israeli company that was showing their device off at the Next booths. The device is a picatinny or scope mounted block, that electronically links up with blocks or transmitters on other rifles or just about anything you want to mount it on (if you can). The concept is brutally simple: Whenever the device is pointed within a certain arc of another device, a rearward facing mini screen lights up red. When it isn’t pointed in that direction, the screen remains blank. The first option obviously means it is pointing at another device and thus another shooter (or game dog), and the second option means there is a clear field of fire only when concerning the people in the party that have a device on.

Australian founded, U.S. operated Nightforce Optics is introducing some new products this year, especially for an optics company. Apart from the 7×35 ATAC-R, and CMP Service Rifle optic the company is bringing to market an interesting tripod with detachable legs for either hiking, shooting sticks, or monopod use.

The visitors of SHOT Show had the possibility to both see and feel the HERA Arms CQR stock and grip in person.

Ever since hooking up with Explorer cases last year, I have been a super fan of their products. I know, I know, it is just a plastic box. A special talent I have is breaking things, or causing proximity failures. When I deployed, my pelican case failed; my stuff was coated with sand and dust even though it wasn’t opened. I have yet to do more than scratch the outside of my Explorer Cases.

Earlier this week I met up with Dustin Coleman, owner of Cole-TAC, maker of a variety of high quality suppressor covers. During this year’s SHOT Show, Coleman and crew released a new high-temp resistant pouch. Designed to withstand the heat of a scalding hot can, the Vulcan can be used on its own or in conjunction with one of the other varieties of high-temp resistant suppressor covers made by Cole-TAC.

Useful at the range, casual office, or for day-to-day concealed carry, Wyldcat pants by 5.11 Tactical offer women more choices for comfort, convenience, and style than other so called “tactical pants”.  These pants are constructed with double thickness at the knees, lots of pockets, and a zippered gusset at the calf allowing them to fit as either skinny straight leg, or boot-cut pants.

This year at SHOT ERGO Grips showcased their new, even shorter, Superlite Modular M-LOK Rail, coming in at 9 inches. It has the exact same other dimensions: 1.5″ outside diameter/ 1.35″ inside diameter. Like the others is manufactured of 6061 T6 with a Type 3 Class 2 Black hard coat finish.

Aimcam is a POV camera built into a pair of glasses. These caught my eye because I have dabbled in using cameras to record POV. Typical POV glasses are ok but are terrible when used with a long gun. Those types of cameras have the lens in the bridge of the of the glasses. The problem arises because where you head is pointed is not the same as where your eyes are looking. You get the same problem using Google Glass. I have tried that too.

Spuhr is bringing in their HK collapsing stock. It has been used by Swedish Home Guard.

The Magnetospeed M-Series Grip, is a new AR15 grip with modular storage. The grip has a springloaded plate so your stored accessory shoots out with force.

Now that I have got involved in the deep, deep rabbit hole of precision long range shooting, I have adjusted my expectation for what the rifle and rounds can do. Because I now know that .308 Win is NOT limited to sub two one thousand yards, I have a new problem… How do I see impact at extreme distances? How do I confirm near misses?

Iron Claw Tactical is a Wisconsin based custom firearms company that is coming out with several innovative upgrades for the Kalashnikov platform. Most importantly being their non-rocking magazine well. Kalashnikovs are notorious for the particular method of “rocking” a magazine into place. Iran Claw came up with a magazine well that is bolted to the lower portion of a Kalashnikov receiver. It has a sort of smooth travel ramp on which a magazine rides into place with, presenting an angle at which it can then lock into place. The system takes a couple minutes getting used to, but once it is down, straight magazine changes similar to what many gun owners experience with an AR is very easy to accomplish.

New for Shot Show 2017 is the Diamondhead USA Hole Shot. It is a new rear sight design. They eliminated the lock out button so you just flip them up to deploy them. Just like their diamond shaped rear sights, the aperture can be folded down for quick CQC sight alignment.

Due to the surging popularity of pistol caliber carbines, Alan Normandy of Battle Comp is coming with a 9mm version of his Battle Comp. They will be available in 1/2×28, 1/2×36 and 13.5LH. They will retail for $165 like his other comps. No info just yet as to when they will be available.

Faxon Firearms has been busy getting ready for SHOT Show like all of us. They introduced new SLIMLINE barrels and muzzle attachments as well as new bolt-carrier groups (BCG). The two newest ones are for .308 Win/7.62 NATO and 9mm.

Everyone knows that shooting from a gun rest improves accuracy, but no one really likes lugging around shooting sticks. The Little Sure Shot Gun Rests solve this problem by allowing shooters to carry the gun rest in their pocket and clamp it to a stick or branch at their shooting site. If the shooter uses a walking stick or trekking pole, those serve equally well.

Who has watched Aliens (you know, the movie where Ripley shows up and “brings it” to the xenomorphs with the Colonial Marines) and wondered why no one has done a round counter like the one on the pulse rifles the good guys used? Well, wonder no more. Cobalt Kinetics has “done it” again, by engineering a solution that combines both functionality and amazing aesthetics.

ETS has made quite a splash with their transparent polymer Glock magazines. Now they are going to make magazines for the Glock 43 and Glock 42.

PWS has a ratchet lock castle nut. It eliminates the need to stake the castle nut to the end plate.

After teasing us on Facebook about their new product a week or so ago, it was nice to get a grubby trigger finger on the new GLOCK trigger from CMC Triggers at SHOT show Industry Day at the Range.

Trijicon has introduced a number of new products at SHOT this year. In fact some of these new optics have already been posted for you to check out. I was lucky enough to receive a set of the XD HR sights prior to SHOT for evaluation. These pistol sights will be available for many popular guns.

Although this is the first year that DSG Arms has a booth at SHOT, they are no strangers to the show. If you don’t already know.
