I don’t have a lever action, but I wish I did and perhaps one day my wish comes true. Now, if I had one I would certainly be very interested in getting the new Henry Red Dot Mount from Phoenix Weaponry. I’d put a red dot on it and imagine I was a modern cowboy for a while.

Hot off the heels of Henry announcing 32 new models of rifles and shotguns in the last quarter of 2020, Henry has four new hunting focused models for 2021.  In the rimfire category, Henry is offering a .22 Magnum lever action with a pic rail, a raised comb, and no iron sights with an eye towards optic optimization, the “Lever Action Magnum Express”.

The Midnight Sky movie featured on Netflix isn’t really a “gun movie,” but the film’s main character utilizes a unique looking lever action rifle that’s worth taking a look at. The lever action rifle in question is clearly a stainless Marlin with a strange looking muzzle device and a slick looking skeletonized buttstock.  Despite the gun, or gun play not being a primary focus of The Midnight Sky, the curious looking Marlin does see some action, and we get some nice glimpses of it in the process.

As I get older and the world changes in so many ways, one thing that thankfully always feels the same to me is Christmas and the holiday season in general. Whether it is decorating the tree or chatting with my family, there is always something that makes me think back to when I was younger and Santa was a thing. I remember the top three things on my list as a kid; a Daisy Red Ryder bb gun, a plasma ball, and a paintball gun. Santa only felt like a Red Ryder was good enough so that is what I ended up with and as beat to crap, as it is, I still have it and cherish it as much as the day I opened it up.

The latest addition to the product line of Form Rifle Stocks, a British company specialized in manufacturing wooden firearm furniture, is a series of stock sets for different Marlin lever action rifles. These stocks were apparently first introduced at the beginning of the year, during the  British Shooting Show 2020. Let’s see what options and features they offer.

New Hampshire based firearms manufacturer and industry powerhouse has just announced that the acquisition of Marlin assets from the Remington bankruptcy sale is complete. The deal closed on November 23 and the $28.3 million purchase price was paid in full. Ruger is said to be moving Marlin rifle production in house and expects to see lever action models available later in 2021. Additional details can be found below.

We have been publishing the Photo Of The Day for years. Our focus is on firearms, sometimes a new product, a classic or a weapon in the hands of soldiers or sport shooters. Sometimes the pictures work just like pieces of art, like the one above. The star here is the Henry Big Boy in .30-30, and I’m thinking about tranquility, the sun, the wind and open spaces, about camping and lodging far away from the city. Do you get the same feeling?

Henry, a manufacturer of classic lever action rifles, has spent the last few years bringing new features into their most popular models. Ranging from side loading gates to threaded barrels and accessory rails, Henry is listening to customer requests and building traditional guns with additional modern features. And they have just announced their most all-encompassing upgrade to date: most of Henry’s lever action rifles will now feature side loading gates. In addition, their single shot rifles are now available in .350 Legend and .450 Bushmaster.

The trend of modernized lever-action rifles keeps growing and currently, most of the major lever-action rifle manufacturers offer such guns. At NRAAM 2019, Marlin introduced the  Dark Series, at SHOT Show 2020, Henry released the  X-Series and Rossi jumped on the bandwagon of modern lever guns with the launch of  R92 Triple Black rifles. Well, the Brazilian company is expanding their line of black lever guns offered in the US market by adding a rimfire one. This new iteration of Rossi’s Rio Bravo lever-action rifle has a quite nice-looking Magpul-esque polymer furniture and other features seen in guns of this new breed.

Benjamin Tyler Henry can be fairly credited with one of the more significant accomplishments in firearms history. Although he was not the first inventor to ever dabble in lever-action guns, as a few other examples like Colt’s early “ring lever” cap-and-ball rifles can be found previously, his original rifle from 1860 really brought the technology into its own and enabled it to proliferate. Combined with the development of self-contained cartridge ammo, this new firearm type would go on to become wildly popular and spawn a number of similar designs from other manufacturers. Benjamin Tyler’s early rifles can arguably be considered some of the most important firearms in American history, and among the revered class of “guns that won the West”.

Recently TFB reported that Henry Repeating Arms had launched a fundraising initiative to help the family of Preslie Mantsch, a Michigan child who was diagnosed with Leukemia earlier this year. They had produced 65 special edition .22 Golden Boy rifles with PRESLIE01 to PRESLIE65 serial numbers, and a “Prayers for Preslie” logo on the stock. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the direct sale of 63 of the rifles, as well as Gunbroker auctions for the final two, were to be donated to the Mantsch family to assist with the cost of Preslie’s cancer treatment. This “ Guns for Great Causes” campaign has been completed, with the sale of all Preslie firearms and the end of the two auctions. Direct sales accounted for more than $38,000 raised, and the auctions for the first and last serials fetched another $8,600. Lever-action fans, cowboy action shooters, and ranch hands, this one is for you. As first teased at SHOT Show 2020, your lever guns are getting some new food. One of the industry’s premier ammo manufacturers, Federal Ammunition, has partnered with Henry Repeating Arms to research and develop rounds that are purpose-built for your classically Wild West-style rifles. Federal’s new HammerDown line is now shipping in five calibers: 44 Rem Magnum, 45-70 Government, 30-30 Win, 327 Federal Magnum, and 45 Colt. A sixth flavor, 357 Magnum, is slated to come on line soon as well. To announce the official introduction of these newly-available yeehaw rounds, Federal has issued the following press release:

The Henry Repeating Arms Company has announced that they’ll be donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of 65 rifles to help a 3 year old Michigan girl that’s been diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  As of the time of publishing, 63 of the rifles have already been sold, and the remaining two rifles are up for auction on Gunbroker.com.  The campaign has been dubbed “Prayers for Preslie”, and the donated rifles reflect the campaign name on the stock and in the serial numbers.

Photo Of The Day – We have a lot of hunters among our readers, and presumably most of you hunt with relatively modern firearms, optics and gear. Here’s an exception, with a Winchester 1886 chambered in .33 WCF. The dagger is homemade, and most likely the coffee as well.

In a tale straight out of the wild west, a Texas man defended himself and his wife from a 250 lb black bear using a lever-action rifle. Bill Williams used his replica 1866 Yellowboy from Uberti to kill the bear when it broke into their Colorado cabin. Williams used his .45 Long Colt-chambered Yellowboy, emptying its 10-round magazine during the confrontation.

This unfortunately is not a story with a happy ending. This is about the tragedy suffered by a family and the solidarity of a great community willing to do its best to help. Ethan Shaw passed away to a rare disease in June, at the age of 2. Henry Repeating Arms is offering financial support to the boy’s family, by donating the proceeds from the sale of a themed run of rifles.

At the beginning of last month, we took a look at some of the rarest and most obscure firearms consigned to the Spring 2020 Poulin Firearms Auction. Initially planned to be held in April, this auction was postponed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and took place in mid-June 2020. Like other auction houses, Poulin also publishes the list of prices realized shortly after the end of each auction. And as usual, we used that list to find out which lots contained the most valuable firearms. In this installment of our article series dedicated to the firearms sold in major American auction houses, we’ll take a look at the top 5 most expensive guns that went under the hammer at Spring 2020 Poulin Firearms Auction.

Tony lives in the United Kingdom. Wait, what? How could anyone living in a country with such a restrictive firearms legislation create a weapon like this? Well, it turns out that this is a perfectly legal firearm in the UK. While belt-fed machine guns and even their semi-auto counterparts are banned in the UK, this ammunition feeding system itself is not. Additionally, this rifle is merely a manual repeater because it is based on a Ruger 96/44 which is a lever-action rifle chambered in .44 Magnum. Here is what Tony says about other legal aspects related to this project:

Bainbridge, Georgia-based Rossi have announced the launch of a new lever action rimfire rifle – the Rio Bravo. Chambered in .22LR the Rio Bravo is based on Rossi’s line of center-fire R92 lever-action firearms. Available in either German beechwood or black synthetic stocks, the Rio Bravo has a 15 round tube magazine and is available with traditional (on the beechwood model) or fiber optic sights (on the synthetic model) sights.

Turnbull Restoration is a well-known company specialized in restoring and color case hardening firearms. If you browse the Restoration Gallery page of the company’s website or visit their social media pages, you’ll find hundreds of pictures showing how they restored dozens of beaten-up old guns often making them look even better than their original factory appearance was. In today’s Photo Of The Day, we’re looking at one of the company’s latest projects, restoration of a Winchester Model 1876 lever-action rifle also known as the Centennial Model.

What’s your oldest Form 1 and what does it cover? Well, earlier this week the Cody Firearms Museum in Cody, Wyoming recently found their oldest Form 1, the physical form itself, and it is just over 85 years old. Filed in Arizona by Mr. R.F. Chatfield-Taylor to cover a short barrelled rifle which is now part of their collection.

When you hear “lever-action rifle”, you probably think about Winchester, Marlin or Henry …maybe also Volcanic or even Colt, but I bet never Smith & Wesson. However, there is such thing as a Smith & Wesson lever-action rifle and one of three such guns known to exist will be auctioned in the upcoming Rock Island Premier Gun Auction.

While a wide variety of manufacturers these days are flooding the market with the same old non-NFA pump-action “firearms” for a fairly inexpensive cost and some even offering semi-autos for a bigger price point, Henry Repeating Arms shows us loud and proud that it is not afraid to stay with the current trends and still give us the extreme pleasure of working a lever and smiling as the repetition that won the world for so long rings out, chopping through the air. Who knew it would take until 2020 for lever-action rifles to finally be their best self?  Mis-steps were taken in this direction in 2012 (I’m looking at you, Mossberg 464).  Unwieldy monstrosities with too much quad rail were not what the lever-action loving community wanted.  The Marlin Dark Series and CST, as well as the Rossi R92 Triple Black are recent entries in the modernized levergun arena.   This year at SHOT, however, Henry had a sleeper hit with their new X Series lever-actions.  

The Henry Repeating Arms Company and High Caliber Gifts recently jointly announced the first-ever “Exhibition Edition” of the Henry Big Boy Silver, Golden Boy Silver and .45-70 rifles. The auction of these special edition exhibition grade rifles began exclusively on GunBroker on 15 March, with 120 up for sale.
