Welcome to TFB Weekly Amazon Deals 9: Essential Gear Edition. This week I’ve gathered a handful of items that I consider to be “essential” when it comes to shooting or everyday carry duty. Do you have a Steiner CQBL? It is a small aiming laser with a slaved VIS and Infrared aiming laser. What it lacks is a good illuminator. 2020 and 2021 have and still continue to be a whirlwind of unpredictability and insanity. While we aren’t seeing the poles reversing or Yellowstone erupting and effectively ending the world, we have most assuredly been subjected to some sort of event that has caused the very way in which we conduct our daily lives to be altered for years to come. Welcome to Amazon Deals 2! Today is July 12th – National Etch A Sketch Day. What does an Etch-A-Sketch have to do with guns or gun gear? Well, to be completely honest, probably nothing. However, I was looking at one of these toys from my childhood in a store recently and it got me thinking about how fun these simple toys really are. For those who don’t know, the Etch A Sketch simply uses a glass or plastic sheet that gets coated with a very fine aluminum powder and then makes use of a pulley-driven stylus to “etch” an image onto the screen. Most of you probably own a pocket EDC flashlight for various tasks. If you’re not carrying a small flashlight around that isn’t attached to your phone, you probably should. I find them to be quite useful and on par with carrying a pocket knife every day. Mischief Machine is a PA-based company that specializes in some pretty unique CNC machined accessories. One item I just learned about is their Billet Aluminum Flashlight mounts. These mounts convert your EDC flashlight into a rail-mounted one so you don’t need to spend hundreds on a dedicated weapon-mounted light.

SIG SAUER Electro-Optics has released their latest weapon light to the pistol and rifle market – the FOXTROT1X Rail Mounted Light. The FOXTROT1X can interface with any standard 1913 rail and is designed for both left and right-handed shooters. The new light is available now and shipping from the SIG SAUER website and is sold for $129.99.

About 6 years ago, Adaptive Tactical introduced their EX Performance Forend and Stock for Remington and Mossberg shotguns. The at the time new forend used a high-strength polymer that was equipped with a 2″ section of Picatinny rail so that a light or laser could be attached. Now, Adaptive Tactical has reintroduced a redesigned version of the EX Performance Light Forend that includes a 300-Lumen light powered by two AA batteries.

The Streamlight TLR-6 is one of the most popular choices for weapon lights for micro-compact pistols such as the SIG Sauer P365. The downside is that there are still only a few options out there for a TLR-6 equipped P365 pistol. DeSantis holsters have just released their new light-bearing Slim-Tuk holster option for P365 pistols equipped with Streamlight TLR-6 lights.

Firefield is very well known for creating a line of well-made foregrips, bipods, bayonets, weapon lights, and lasers. Firefield has just announced the release of their new Rival XL Foregrip Laser combos that are intended to save weight and space on your rifle’s limited M-LOK space. The new grips are made from composite and metal materials and use a single CR123A battery to power the laser and integrated 150-lumen flashlight.

The ModButton Lite has taken off like a wildfire in California. It is a modular tape switch for your SureFire Scout Light compatible lights or a laser that uses an Insight/Crane plug. Since the ModButton Lite is modular, HRF Concepts have made a mount to angle the ModButton Lite. They call it the RAMP (Remote Angled Mod Platform).

When shooting or observing with night vision at longer distances, you might need to add some supplementary illumination. Carbines set up for night vision usually have a multi-function aiming laser (MFAL). In a previous Friday Night Lights, I went over the most popular full power MFALs. While these can work for long-range shooting with a clip-on, they are expensive and for the most part, you are using a scope to aim so you don’t need an infrared pointer. There are two standalone IR illuminators, the Luna Optics LN-ELIR-3 and the Steiner SPIR. We will take a look at both.

If you run a light on a long gun, odds are you’ve wrestled with cable management issues before. Although these headaches can be circumvented by only using a clicky tailcap, or buying a Cloud Defensive OWL, these types of solutions won’t work for every gun or every shooter. Sometimes, you just need a remote switch – and that means cables. In the past, keeping your wires in place has often meant using velcro, tape, or zip ties. Unfortunately, most of these cobbled-together setups come with their own problems. Cloud Defensive’s REIN weaponlight actually provides a solid cable management solution built right into their remote switch’s mount. However, in most cases and with most other makes/models of lights, additional routing/securing hardware would be exceedingly useful in preventing snags or damage to your light’s wiring. It wasn’t long ago that if you wanted a light on your rifle, it was SureFire or nothing. With their company history stretching back nearly a half-century and key innovations in weapon-mounted flashlights beginning as early as the 1980s, it’s not hard to see why they were the kings of this particular hill for so long. In recent years, however, the market for tactical illumination has exploded. Usage and demand have soared, and as a result, many younger companies have arisen to challenge the SureFire giant. While this process has given us a veritable ocean of lesser products, it has also featured some phenomenal lights from other manufacturers. While SureFire still offers many excellent weaponlights, they no longer sit alone on the top shelf of this realm. For my money and from my experience, two companies, in particular, have emerged as the most capable direct SureFire long gun light competitors, in the majority of applications: the PLH and OKW models from Modlite, and the OWL and REIN lights from Cloud Defensive.

Streamlight has one of the most popular lines of weapon-mounted flights currently on the market and this year they have been coming out with all sorts of new products. They recently released the TLR-10 1,000 lumen light that comes complete with an integrated red laser and rear switch options to match your shooting style.

If you’re in the market for a new rechargeable EDC light, Streamlight has just launched the new Wedge EDC rechargeable flashlight. The Wedge features a compact size, USB-C rechargeable capability, sturdy machined aluminum construction, and a Type II anodized finishes. Full details below.

Until recently, not many subcompact carry guns came equipped with rails. Because of this, some people either carried a larger handgun, or opted to have no light. However, with the introduction of pistols like the SIG P365, Springfield Armory Hellcat, and Glock 43X and 48 MOS models, that has changed. A need for subcompact lights has emerged and Streamlight has answered. Introducing the TLR-7 sub.

In the world of weapon lights, there are some pretty big names from SureFire to Streamlight. They both offer some great options for both pistol and rifle lights. I am a big fan of both the SureFire X300 line of weapon lights or Streamlight’s TLR-1 HL offerings. Inforce broke into the weapon-mounted light market a few years ago and offered a variety of models like the APL and APLc. The previous generation of Inforce lights was made out of polymer to keep the weapon light down on weight. It was a great option for people who wanted to keep the weight down on their guns while having a decently bright weapon light. Things have changed with the new Wild2 weapon light as this light has an aluminum housing. Let’s dive more into the new Inforce Wild2 weapon light.

Cloud Defensive has recently been one of the big names in the weapon-mounted light industry and they are continuing to expand their list of offerings to the firearms world. Recently they announced the introduction of their new Torrent Weapon-Light Mounts. Full details in the press release below:

Modlite has become the go-to weapon light for people who want the best performance. Their PLH and OKW outperform any other weapon light on the market for the same size package. They are based on the SureFire Dual Fuel Scout Light pattern so they can use the same bodies, mounts and tail caps. One minor issue with running a SureFire tape switch is the high amp draw of these lights. The factory SureFire tape switch has too much resistance and dims the lights. So Modlite collaborated with Unity Tactical and now has the ModButton Lite.
