Today we salute the unofficial end of summer in the northern hemisphere, swapping lemonade and hotdogs for pumpkin spice lattes and scones. In the firearm world, the changing of the seasons can mean a change in the way we carry our concealed weapons. The shorts that normally hold our pocket pistols get packed in the lower drawers and the long sleeved fleeces come out to cover our waistband or index carry locations.

This week I am taking Law Enforcement Protective Operations with Alexander Global Strategies (AGS). The Alliance Police Range is hosting AGS in Alliance, OH. While I enjoy a good rifle or CQB course, protection courses can also be extremely beneficial. Whether going to the mall with our family or taking our significant other on a trip out of state, having an understanding of the skills protection agents utilize can enhance our planning and awareness. This is a 5 day course with a full day training scenario on the last day.

What’s better than carrying a concealed handgun? Carrying two concealed handguns! Even better if you carry both in an Appendix Carry Holster. Well, the folks over at NSR Tactical have just the product that ticks all those boxes, it’s called the C-1 Dual Appendix Holster. It’s similar to their C-1 Appendix Holster but it allows you to carry a second pistol of the same make and model. It includes a tuckable strut that allows the user to tuck in their shirt if they need to. It also uses pull the dot snaps and it can be used with both the Ulticlip and Ulticlip XL holster clips.

When it comes to discussing concealed carry pistols in the last 5 years, the Springfield Armory XDS always comes up in that conversation. Initially offered in 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP in two different barrel lengths of 3.3” and 4” it has been carried by thousands of firearm enthusiasts. As time passes though so do people’s preferences and demands for their firearms. That has brought us to Springfield Armory’s XDS Mod.2 9mm just announced two weeks ago.

Full Conceal. This is a discussion I’ve been trying to avoid. I don’t like commenting about, reviewing, endorsing, or condemning controversial products unless I feel very strongly about them. No good comes from it because if you have a positive opinion, you must have been paid for it. In this sequel to “Bears versus Guns”, James revisits his earlier decision to carry a .44 magnum as a grizzly bear defense sidearm in Alaska. This was based, in part, on user comments; after a number of commenters asked James to consider 10mm in the last video, James did additional research on the 10mm handgun as a carry gun in Bear Country. On one hand, 10mm is only about two-thirds as powerful as .44 Magnum, but on the other, the Glock 20SF supplies 16 rounds of 10mm power compared to five or six rounds as in most .44 revolvers. If you have been carrying a sidearm for any reasonable amount of time you likely have a shoebox or desk drawer with a dozen plus holsters inside. There is no magically perfect holster for carrying Outside-the-Waistband (OWB) or Inside-the-Waistband (IWB). To muddy the waters even further, if you ask ten friends what holster you should buy you will likely get ten conflicting opinions as well. In this TFB Review, we will examine a Bravo Concealment Torsion IWB Kydex Holster specifically for a Glock Gen4 17 9mm.

Up until Wilson Combat starting dabbling in Glocks and Beretta’s it was known as the bastion of all things John Moses Browning and .45ACP.  There was, however, a little-known polymer frame 9mm already upgraded by Wilson:  The ADP.  Originally designed by Alex Du Plessis in the early 90’s for South African Arms company Aserma (of revolving shotgun fame), The ADP was a bit ahead of its time in being a slim, gas-delayed ultracompact 9mm pistol.  Imagine if the Glock 43 had the gas delay of the HK P7 series.  That is in essence the ADP.  The concept itself is wonderful, but sadly like many other firearms, the execution was lacking.  Quality control from Heritage Arms, the original US based importer of these pistols, was lacking enough to give the ADP a bad reputation amongst consumers of the ADP when it was branded as the “Heritage Stealth.”  The most common complaint was reliability of the .40 caliber versions, as well as terrible materials and finishes.

Last week we reported that an FBI agent accidentally opened fire when he hit the dance floor in Denver.  The agent negligently discharged his firearm wounding a member of the public in the leg while doing a back flip on a dance floor of a Denver club.

The dramatic increase in the number of firearms purchases made by women over the past decade is indisputable. One only need look at the number of “muddy girl” or “Tiffany blue (Robin’s egg) colored firearms on the market today for verification that the firearms industry has taken notice. However, recent studies are now showing that growth could be more substantial than originally thought and that women may have surpassed the number of men obtaining concealed carry permits nationwide.

Dene Adams brought several holster designs to the US Concealed Carry Association Expo (USCCAE) recently. Shoppers were able to pick up, feel, and get questions answered in person from several of the staff (and family members) at Dene Adams. Curious customers could also try on apparel or be fitted for specific items while at the expo. This made for a unique shopping experience and one that most women at the Dene Adams booth seemed to really appreciate.

In this episode of TFBTV, James gives the Sig Sauer P365 in 9mm a thorough rundown. On paper, the P365 looks like the ultimate carry 9mm: it’s as thin and light as most single stack 9mm pistols that only carry 6 or 7 rounds, while it can hold up to 11 (or 13 rounds with an extended magazine). James puts the P365 to the test today, firing 500 rounds of Sig and Ventura Munitions ammo, as well as Wolf steel, all while shooting from the holster and up to 50 yards away.
