Concealed Carry Corner: Being Educated vs Emotional

Recently, I drove from Michigan to Tampa for a much-needed vacation. While driving down, I decided to turn on the FieldCraft Survival podcast to pass the time. Usually, I will save a few episodes up to entertain me on long trips. Their latest episode touched on recent events of unrest and what it means to concealed carriers during this time. One of the head instructors,  Raul Martinez, brought up a concept about being educated in society. He made a great point about how education affects how emotional someone is. In the 178th podcast, he was explaining about education as a broad topic in the inner-city school systems. As I was driving late at night, I started thinking about how it may be just as true in the gun community as well. Let’s dive into the idea of educated vs emotional.

Concealed Carry Corner: Carrying While Paddling

If you’ll recall this past summer, TFB’s Matt E covered Concealed Carry While Boating, in which he focused on being armed while on a motorboat on the ocean. Cue the banjos, because in this edition of Concealed Carry Corner, we’re discussing concealed carry while paddling.

Offroad Racing Champion BJ Baldwin Defends His Life and Life of His Girlfriend Tori Nonaka

Thousands of people defend their lives with firearms every year, but unfortunately, we don’t hear about it in the news. Potential legal liabilities and concerns for personal safety usually prevent people from telling their stories. Fortunately, there are exceptions, such as the story of Jack Wilson from Texas, who stopped an active shooter in the church last year; or the recent story of famous offroad racing champion BJ Baldwin who had to defend himself and his girlfriend against an armed assailant.

Concealed Carry Corner: Top 4 Carry Myths to Avoid

Last week, I was checking out a local gun shop trying to kill time. I overheard a couple other customers talking about how they carry their firearm and it caught my attention. To be honest, this isn’t the first time I’ve heard someone say something exactly like this and plenty of other odd comments as well. Whether it’s carrying sub-par ammo or practicing bad habits that will do more harm than good in the long run. Let’s dive into the depths of insanity when it comes to concealed carry myths.

Concealed Carry Corner: Why Trigger Control Could Save Your Life

Occasionally I will help a friend out from time to time while he teaches beginner handgun courses and CPL classes. Concealed Carry Corner: Capability vs Mobility

In the last five years, there has been a fair amount of innovation with guns becoming smaller while offering the capacity of a larger framed handgun. Innovation in the gun community is never a bad thing with multiple companies like Glock, SIG, and Springfield Armory all offering high capacity sub-compact handguns. With innovation come challenges and there’ve been a number of challenges especially for younger people who concealed carry. A fairly common question I get from people is whether or not to go with a smaller carry gun or something larger for daily use. Let’s dive into the pros and cons of having a lightweight carry system vs a larger gun with more bulk.

TFB Review: 5.11 Sabre 2.0 Jacket after SEVEN Years

It is hard to write gear reviews. If you only used an item for a few weeks, you hardly have a valuable experience to share. Concealed Carry Corner: The Importance of Medical

Every week, we sit down and look at different aspects of the concealed carry realm, but medical is often something that goes without much coverage. Some of you may disagree, but being in a situation where someone may need medical help is much greater than being in a self-defense situation. Whether it’s witnessing a bad car collision or having an unfortunate accident, things happen. Having the proper equipment as well as knowledge is incredibly important when emergencies occur. Buying Holsters for Dummies: A Guide to Choosing a Proper Holster

While “Buying Holsters for Dummies” isn’t a book yet, it should be. The holster is the everlasting companion of the handgun. Many of you no doubt have probably purchased a handgun fairly recently and with good reason. In these uncertain times, it is paramount that we are ready and able to defend ourselves and our loved ones from all threats both at home and out in the world. TFB Review: Defense Mechanisms Ankle Med Kit

EDC is always a hot topic, but the importance of medical gear is often overlooked. This might be because it doesn’t seem as sexy of a topic, but it is an important part of the gear we might need. There is a greater probability that we will need to plug holes than make them. This simply means the likelihood of us having to defensively protect ourselves is far outweighed by the probability we will come across someone in medical trauma needing medical gear. However, there are some drawbacks to medical gear. Often medical gear is large and difficult to carry, getting torn up when carried in a pocket or taking up valuable space for other tools. Defense Mechanisms came out with an ankle med kit to solve this problem. I previously had never carried anything on my ankle so it was a new endeavor for me, but it was worth the effort.

Concealed Carry Corner: Ways to Practice Shooting From Home

There is no denying, the last few weeks have been a little odd around the world. Normal daily practices like going out to dinner or hitting the range on a free day, have completely stopped. The number one complaint with shooters in my area is the lack of open ranges. Here in Michigan, most of the public ranges and indoor ranges have been shut down for public safety, so it really is difficult to find an accessible place to shoot if you don’t have private land.

Throughout the years, I have tried a fair number of products and really wish I wouldn’t have spent money on certain items. SIG Sauer RXP XCompact vs XCompact – What's The Difference?

Over the last 10 months or so, I have carried the XCompact from SIG Sauer and it has become one of the top carry guns I own. The P320 series is one of the more modular pistol designs on the market today with the ability to change out most components to create a truly unique handgun. The original XCompact from SIG was a very reliable concealed carry handgun that gave the user options on mounting optics and small lights. Over the last 10 months, I’ve put about 3,200 rounds through the standard XCompact without issues, but now with the RXP XCompact being released, we can check out the difference between the two guns. Let’s dive into comparing the standard XCompact to the new RXP XCompact.

Top 5 Beginner CCW Mistakes (That I Made)

I have made many, many mistakes in my life. Some are hysterical to look back on and make for great stories.
