Yes, you read that right – this is not just a muzzle rise compensator. What’s really cool about this muzzle device is that it’s designed to be also used as a tool for disassembling your AK-47. In fact, the model name of this gadget, MTC-1, stands for Multi Tool Compensator … and 1 means that it is “First of its kind”! Let’s take a closer look and see what exactly the JMac Customs MTC-1 does.

Back in February of 2018, we published an article telling about a Sureshot Armament Group AK chassis/handguard system called MK2. The installation of MK2 required removal of the rear sight block and gas block and reinstallation of the latter. While it is not a difficult task if you have the proper tools and skills, for most of us it probably means taking the gun to a gunsmith. Acknowledging the need for a drop-in solution, the company came up with the MK2.1 chassis which allows the end-users to install it on their rifles using just a screwdriver.

In 1965 the Finnish Army adopted the 7.62x39mm Valmet RK62, and it has been produced in volumes over 350,000 by Valmet and Sako in Finland.

AKs are not ARs. They are not as modular as the AR platform when it comes to the overall design of the weapon and how it is assembled. With really basic skills and a minimum amount of tools, you can put together an AR-15. That’s why oftentimes the AR-15 is referred to as a “Lego for grown-up kids“. That’s not the case with the AKs – it’s way more difficult to build an AK and it requires more skills, time and special tools.

The third seal is broken and another horseman has arrived – meet the FAMINE. Back in 2018 Meridian Defence Corporation announced a series of custom AK rifles themed after the four horsemen of the apocalypse – Pestilence, War, Famine, Death. They first released the  PESTILENCE, then in May of 2019 they introduced an RPK pattern rifle, the WAR, and now the FAMINE is unveiled.

FAB Defense have introduced their new handguard for AKs, the AK Vanguard. The new M-LOK compatible Vanguard has an integrated heat shield and comes with Picatinny rail sections which can be attached.

Century Arms has posted this photo on their social media pages accompanied with a caption that reads: “Long time no see!“. For most of the folks in the US AK community, this was a clear hint that they are going to resume the importation of Romanian WASR rifles chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO / .223 Remington. Many of the AK media sources immediately started speculating with the possible upcoming reintroduction of these rifles and some have even confirmed it. Particularly, AK Operators Union said on their Facebook page: “Yes, 5.56×45 Wasr is coming, yes we will review it!“.

In our day and age, it is hard to imagine that some weapons still remain literally unknown to the general public. It seems that because of TFB, “Forgotten weapons” and other specialty gun blogs, no weapon is truly forgotten anymore. That is why I was really surprised when my friend Pavel Pticin showed me “Vitrina”, classified grenade launcher developed for KGB I’ve never heard about.

Arsenal Inc., the importer of Bulgarian AKs, has announced the availability of a new iteration of their milled receiver SAM7 rifles. This new version of the rifle is called SAM7R-68. The difference from the base rifle is the new handguard. The SAM7R-68 comes with a Bulgarian-made polymer handguard that has a built-in bottom Picatinny rail.

Serbia’s Zastava Arms, best known for their AK-pattern M70, have been developing a new rifle for the past couple of years. Back in 2017, TFB reported that they were working on a new rifle chambered in a 6.5mm cartridge. The Zastava M17 is designed to be a more modular rifle, based somewhat on the company’s M05 rifle, which has a railed forend.

DNO Firearms has published a video where they test a DX-7 rifle with 3D printed polymer receivers. The DX-7 rifle is basically an improved AK that utilizes upper and lower receiver layout still using many standard AK parts with no or minor changes. The original DX-7 receivers are made of aluminum, however, looks like the design of these receivers will allow to successfully make their polymer versions, too. Let’s watch the mentioned video.

If you visit the website of Circle 10 AK, you’ll find a large selection of machined aluminum stocks for a variety of AK pattern rifles. Earlier, we talked about fixed and side-folding triangle stocks made by this company. What was missing in their product line was a solution for AK pistols. Well, the company filled this gap by introducing the Triangle Pistol Brace Adapter.

When it comes to the improvement of the main service rifle of the Armed Forces, different countries demonstrate various approaches. Some decide to completely replace the existing stock of weapons, like France, that replaced the venerable FAMAS with HK416. Other countries prefer to go a different route, modernizing the existing weapon instead of replacing it. And that is exactly what Finland did with RK62M.

The Russian .345 TK cartridge was released at the beginning of the current year. It was designed to be chambered in pistol caliber carbines for the Russian civilian market. And today we’ll talk about the first firearm made to shoot this cartridge. At the ARMY 2019 exhibition, Kalashnikov Concern introduced the TR9 PARADOX carbine which is essentially a Saiga-9 chambered in .345 TK and sporting a half-rifled barrel.

A couple of months ago we reported about the prototype of a civilian AK-12 rifle that was being tested by competition shooters in Russia. That rifle had a model designation Saiga-AK12. Several days ago, Kalashnikov Concern announced that 2,000 deactivated AK-12 rifles will be sold to the civilians. And the latest news is that the civilian versions of both AK-12 and AK-15 rifles will soon hit the shelves of Russian gun stores under a new model designation of AK TR3.

Wooden stocks on AKs are nothing new, neither are side folding stocks. However, the combination of both is something that simply doesn’t exist (not counting the custom made ones). Well, didn’t exist: Kalashnikov Concern has released a limited edition commemorative TG2 rifle with a side folding wooden stock.

Kalashnikov Concern has announced that 2,000 AK-12 rifles will be deactivated and sold to the civilians in Russia. In fact, you can already find these dummy rifles listed on the KC’s website at an MSRP of 19,900 roubles which is about $315.

Late last month, Century Arms successfully defended against a motion to dismiss filed its XTech Tactical lawsuit. The order means that Century’s lawsuit against XTech can continue. The matter involves a waffle patterned AK47 magazine design that Century alleges was infringed upon by XTech Tactical.

While browsing my social media feed, I came across the images of this AK-74 pattern rifle dressed in period correct bell bottom jeans. These photos were published in one of my favorite Facebook groups (AK-47) dedicated to AK rifles by  Dennis Martin, the man known for making all kinds of fun gun stuff such as the scaled-up replicas of different weapons.

K-VAR Corp. has announced that the new Brown Bear 7.62x39mm Subsonic ammunition is now available in the US. As in the case of other Brown Bear branded ammunition, the new subsonic 7.62x39mm ammo is also made in Russia by the Barnaul Cartridge Plant. Their plans to introduce these subsonic loads to the US market were announced at SHOT Show 2019.

According to TASS Russian News Agency, the Belarusian State-owned Foreign Trade Unitary Enterprise “BELSPETSVNESHTECHNIKA” (BSVT) has started assembling Vepr rifles and shotguns from Russian-made Molot parts. TASS was informed about this cooperation by a “Belarusian defense industry contact” during the MILEX 2019 arms exhibition recently held in Minsk, Belarus.
