Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of firearms, ammunition, and bits of history. Last week we talked about the fondly remembered Winchester 250 lever action 22LR rifle. A lot of you seemed to indeed have fond memories of the rifle and a few of you even commented that you still owned and shot yours which is something we always love to see (safe queens are boring). I was going over some recent show footage from SHOT 2024 and I came across the Rock River Arms 17HMR Gas Operated Blowback 17HMR Rifle. If you can’t watch the video, the rifle basically uses a hybrid of a bearing-locked breech, with a direct impingement system in order to give the 17HMR cartridge to properly build pressure before cycling. A lot of commenters on that video asked the question “Why can’t you do a gas-operated 22LR gun?” Today we’re going to try and at least partially answer this question. I’m not a firearms engineer, but I’ve learned a few things over the years about this tiny little cartridge that I think you’ll agree make it a poor choice to build a true gas-operated firearm around, which is why you don’t see them often.

It looks like 2024 is The Year Of The Lever Action, but we’ve seen a familiar theme so far: Just about all the new lever guns are in .44 Magnum, .357 Magnum or some other cartridge that you’d expect in a revolver, but not an autoloader pistol. Taylor’s & Co. aims to change that with their new TC73, chambered in 9mm Luger.

The NRA Annual Meetings (NRAAM) 2024 have officially kicked off in Dallas, Texas and many manufacturers are wasting no time to announce new offerings that they will have heading into summer. One of the companies who blew the doors off the convention is Colt. Colt has been busy having already announced 4 new revolvers: the return of the Colt Viper, Colt Kodiak, Colt Grizzly, and a line extension by offering 8″ Pythons. Let’s walk our way through all of these offerings to see which one/s you will need to add to your collection next.

In this episode of TFBTV Show Time, Hop visits the Smith & Wesson booth at NRAAM 2024 to check out the new short barreled .300 Blackout version of the S&W/Gemtech GVAC upper. The GVAC system is a bore evacuator that significantly reduces gas blowback to the shooter’s face, which works well in conjunction with Gemtech’s new reduced back pressure suppressor series.

That’s right folks, Glock has finally graced us with a new G17L. And not just any Glock 17L, but a Glock 17L Gen5 MOS. This has always been a less common model in the Glock catalog, so it was a bit of a surprise to see it added. But it is a very interesting model, so let’s check it out.

Taurus’ sister company Heritage has a new retro detective-style snub-nose revolver with a little noir flair.

[Luke is at NRAAM 2024 in Dallas, Texas checking out the Fusion Firearms booth and their brand new 2011-style pistol that takes Glock mags. The Fusion Firearms 20X11 pistol is currently available in a 4.5” model but will soon be expanded to include 5” variants. Each 20×11 is compatible with Glock OEM and aftermarket 17 round magazines and retails for about $1,100 making it a more affordable option for those seeking a 2011-style pistol.

After a long hiatus, Barrett has reintroduced the REC7 DI! In this episode of TFBTV Show Time, Hop stops by the Barrett booth to check out the new version of the REC7 and how Barrett has updated it. Can the REC7 hang with the new crop of ARs? Time will tell.

Recently, the ATF has issued warning notices concerning three specific muzzle devices manufactured by Lethal Eye, a DBA for KBC Capital LLC. These devices, the M074, M079, and M099 muzzle brakes, are now classified as silencers by the ATF. A letter that one of my clients received is pictured below.

In this episode of TFBTV Show Time, Hop visits the Shadow Systems booth at the NRA Annual Meeting 2024 to check out the new CR920X. This is a new version of the CR920 micro double stack, with a longer grip that can accommodate a 15-round flush fit magazine or an 18-round extended magazine. The CR920X still has the same optics cut compatible with K-cut red dots, and is available as the flagship Elite model or the more entry-level Foundation model.

For day 2 of the NRA 2024 Annual Meetings and Expo, Luke C is back on the showroom floor with Mountain Billy Gun Labs (formerly Wee 1 Tactical) to talk about their ultra tiny and ultra-light 80% scale AR-15 the GOAT-15. Intended for plinkers and smaller individuals, the GOAT-15 features the same familiar controls of the AR-15, with enhanced safety features that make it great for younger shooters.

Today Luke C is at the High End Defense booth at NRAAM 2024 checking out their brand new magnetically attached red dot mount. This new mount takes your standard iron-sight-only pistol and quickly converts it to accept the High End Defense “Fox” mount and red dot. This allows you to quickly swap your optic from pistol to pistol, or quickly remove it for maintenance or replacement – all with magnets.
